Deceptive Business Practices- They charge a ridiculous fee to cancel service and pick up the bins- almost $140. This is not disclosed PRIOR to signing up- they rip you off when you leave. I urge you to file complaints with your State Attorney General to stop crooked companies like this from operating with these deceptive practices.

Republic Services Inc.
When my spouse called the city of Long Beach, Refuse Pick up department at 562-570-2876, for help with disposal of construction refuse, not accepted by city garbage collection, she was informed that the city does not provide such a service but that they could recommend three private firms that do so. The first recommendation was for Republic Services Inc. (RSI). They arrived in a shiny truck to deliver a collection bin we would have for a week. After we filled it with trash, RSI arrived and emptied the bin, assuring us that another truck would soon arrive to collect the bin itself. This promise was not kept.
My wife and I made a total of about a dozen calls to RSI over the ensuing month, asking them to retrieve their bin, each time with assurances that they would do so but never followed by the promised retrieval. Each time there were long ordeals on call waiting, frustrating experiences with “chat” assistance but no satisfaction. Only after threatening legal action, was I finally connected to a supervisor who arranged the bin removal on June 23, 2026.
As I had promised the company that I would file an unfavorable review, I went to social media to document my experience, voice my complaints and warn others about the unreliability of the company. First stop, Yelp. Here I found that RSI was an enormous national corporation with multiple California branches. Yelp contributors - in a large majority - gave the company terrible reviews i.e. the lowest possible rating of 1 star. Most of the ratings included complaints about the same problems my wife and I had experienced.
Trustpilot reviewers gave RSI a ranking of 1.3/5 (5 star (4%) 1 star (92%) and summarized complaints as follows
“frequently citing missed trash pickups and unreliable scheduling, which often led to trash piling up for extended periods” and
“issues with customer service, describing long wait times, unhelpful agents and a general lack of accountability.”
Many people “found the pricing to be excessive and unfair, with unexpected charges, hidden fees and frequent price increases”, “making the service feel like a “money grab”.”
Complaints Board gives RSI an overall score of 1.1/5.
The Better Business Bureau recorded 2094 complaints against RSI over three years. It gets worse. In multiple instances RSI has tried to foreclose on hundreds of homes of those who fail to pay their bills. Even when foreclosure was not allowed, the homeowner was stuck with exorbitant company lawyer bills.
A Wikipedia search turned up further surprises. RSI is the second largest waste disposal company in the U.S. and operates the largest landfill in the country, at Apex, Nevada. Bill Gates holds 35% of company stock! RSI has been involved in a number of environmental lawsuits involving violations of the Clean Water Act, hazardous waste leaks in San Francisco and radioactive waste in St. Louis. Huntington Beach CA has been the site of two lawsuits against RSI involving “bad-faith” dealings, fraud, intimidation and endangered historic properties.
Seal Beach CA was adversely affected by a national feud between RSI and the Teamster’s union.
The Legal Clarity Tort Law site reports that
“Since 2000, the company and its subsidiaries have accumulated roughly $177.7 million in recorded penalties across nearly 290 regulatory and legal actions, with the vast majority tied to environmental offenses.”
To return to the original question, why are Long Beach city employees giving citizens a recommendation to do business with such a profoundly awful company? When I called today to ask for advice on a private company to remove construction materials, I was given the name of EDCO. When I asked why I was given the name EDCO rather than RSI, I was referred to a list of “permitted” waste haulers on the city web site. It lists six companies, including
“Consolidated Disposal Service
DBA Republic Services, Allied Waste, BFI (951) 359-9483
Contract 32127
Contract 32127 presumably refers to a contract between the city of Long Beach and “Consolidated Disposal Service, “doing business as” RSI. This raises the further question of why the name change and why the city council approved a company with such a dreadful track record? It also leaves open the question of what policy employees of the city must follow when asked for a referral to a private hauler.

Warning About Republic Investments and Related Contacts
Based on my experience, I advise people to exercise extreme caution when dealing with Republic Investments and associated contacts such as republicinvestmentservices.com, republicinvestmentglobal.com, and intercompliancesolutions.com.
They initially claim that no upfront payment is required. However, after engaging you in a series of lengthy protocols, registrations, and website processes designed to build anticipation and confidence, they may eventually direct you to pay substantial fees to what they describe as independent "compliance partners." They present these entities as external parties, not part of their organization.
If you refuse, they may attempt to negotiate and reduce the amount requested. For example, an initial demand of around USD 30,000 may later be lowered to USD 1,000 or another amount. In my experience, this appears to be part of a strategy to persuade victims into paying something under the guise of compliance requirements.
They may employ various other tactics and prolonged communications that consume a great deal of time. Although I did not lose money, I found the process frustrating because of the amount of time wasted after repeated assurances that no upfront payment would be required.
My advice is simple: be very cautious. If you receive emails, phone calls, or messages from these entities or their associated websites, do your own due diligence and avoid sending money or paying any so-called compliance fees without obtaining independent professional advice. If something seems suspicious, it may be best to ignore their communications and avoid interacting with their numerous websites

Republic Trash
Republic Trash, what a joke. I called to schedule a “big trash” pickup because apparently our normal trash truck is a Tonka truck and can’t pick up 2 twin mattresses bound together. They said they can get 1, and the other for $23?? Does that make any sense. I said ok then they can make 2 trips then?! Are they short on work? Have to split it all up? I’m going to wrap them together just like the website says. They’re some scamming fools.

Worst Customer Service I have…
Worst Customer Service I have experienced. Moved into a new house and set up services with them. On our very first trash pick up they took all of our containers instead of just taking the trash. When I called to report it, I was blamed and told I must have overfilled them, which was not accurate. I was then later lied to and told that my can was on the way back that night and it never arrived. I have also been told by two separate representatives that someone from management would call me to get this all resolved and I have never heard from anyone. I have also been requesting two regular trash cans and one recycle cans since I set up the service. I have now contacted them six times in three weeks, and we still don’t have our second regular trashcan. In addition, our only regular trashcan was damaged in the very first pick up after we finally received it back. If we were not so busy moving into a new house as well as trying to get our old house ready to sell we would absolutely have canceled the service by now. This company has been a nightmare.

Price increases
Price increases - They say that they have a bases price but can increase the prices every three months based on fuel cost without informing the customer. My bill started at $82 and went to $119 in a year. I’ll never use them again. Poor communication and customer service.

I called to schedule an extra pickup
I called to schedule an extra pickup. Our town was hit by a tornado and I had a shed destroyed. Many things that were in the shed were no longer unusable, for example a tree branch implaled the 6 life jackets we had hanging up. Large and bulky item that took a garbage bag up by themselves. I asked how much the pickup would be, he said $10.50 a bag. That is outrageous! I then asked if they would suspend the price for 2 weeks out of generosity for a tornado hit community, noting the 3 other companies in our area had suspended bag limits and extra pricing for a month. His reply was Republican has no control of the weather, nor was it their responsibility to assist in extra trash removal, amd if I had read their policy on line I would have known that. A simple no would have sufficed, instead he had to be rude about it. No, it's not their responsibility but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I called around and found another company that is half the price and I get an extra can. They are one of the ones that have suspended extra fees due to the tornado.

Absolutely terrible customer experience…
Absolutely terrible customer experience from start to finish.
I needed a simple answer before making a 30-minute drive: Can a private citizen use this location, or is it business customers only?
I called Republic Services and instead of answering a straightforward yes-or-no question, the representative repeatedly asked for an account number, address, full name, and spelling of my name. I explained multiple times that I did not have an account and simply wanted to know whether the facility was open to the public. The representative seemed unable to understand the question and eventually became unhelpful to the point that the conversation was essentially over without an answer.
Since I couldn’t get a clear response, I drove there anyway.
When I arrived, there was little to no helpful signage directing customers where to go. I initially ended up in a dead end and had to figure out the correct entrance on my own. Once I finally got to the right location, I was informed that I needed a safety vest. I fully support safety requirements, but forcing customers to purchase a vest to drive less than 100 feet and throw material into a roll-off dumpster feels excessive and poorly thought out.
To make matters worse, I was charged a flat two-ton rate for a small load in the back of a Jeep, which seemed completely disconnected from the actual amount of material being disposed of.
The entire experience felt disorganized, customer-unfriendly, and designed around the assumption that customers have no alternative options. Between the lack of basic communication, confusing site layout, mandatory vest purchase, and pricing structure, this was one of the most frustrating waste disposal experiences I’ve had.
