Remote Year: People Over Places
I've been staring at this review box for the last few minutes trying to come up with the words to sum up my experience with Remote Year. It's impossibly difficult to explain how much I walked away with, how much I gained, even with my program being interrupted by Covid-19. If you're on this site trying to decide if this experience is worth it, it is. Do it! Obviously RY is not a perfect company, I can guarantee you'll have months where you don't particularly like your housing, your roommate or the city you're living in BUT that's part of the experience and some of my favorite stories to retell are the ones where things didn't seem to be going my way in the moment. I think it's also important to remember what RY as a company is responsible for and what we as members are responsible for. RY exists because the founders wanted to encourage people to travel in community. Most participants cite the community as the reason they signed up for RY. And it's important to keep in mind that although RY creates the community initially, it is up to the individual members of that community to encourage, support and advocate for one another. The travel is amazing and it will change your life, but the community is the thing that will challenge and grow you the most. Lean in to that process, limit your expectations and open yourself up to all that a year of rigorous travel, deep friendship and constant change can do for you!
