My reviews of specific clinics weren't allowed to be posted and even emails were guarded. And the fake reviews I flagged weren't even touched.

Hi, we're sorry to hear this has been frustrating, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.
You have three reviews currently published on RealSelf. The additional reviews you submitted weren't published because they were duplicates of the same treatment experience. To keep things fair for everyone, each experience can only be reviewed once.
Trust in our platform is very important to us. Every review goes through both automated and human moderation before it's published to make sure it meets our Terms of Service. We can't share details about other people's reviews, but we look at every flag and remove reviews that don't meet our guidelines, including ones that are fake, spam, duplicates, or contain threats.
If there are specific reviews you're still concerned about, please send them to our support team at [email protected] and we'll take another look.

Warning - they will direct patients to other surgeons and have very poor moderation
I have had a profile on RealSelf for many years, but I have become increasingly uncomfortable with both its commercial model and its approach to review moderation.
My first concern is the way surgeons are presented to prospective patients. My experience is that if a patient searches for a particular surgeon and arrives at that surgeon’s RealSelf profile, they may then be presented with and directed towards other surgeons who pay RealSelf for greater visibility. This creates an uncomfortable commercial dynamic: surgeons can feel pressure to pay the platform in order to avoid potential patients being diverted towards paying competitors. In my view, the distinction between independent patient information and paid promotion should be much clearer.
My second concern relates to the handling of repeated negative reviews. I recently raised a case involving an individual posting about treatment from more than a decade ago, including matters relating to the hospital rather than simply my surgical care, while also posting repeatedly across several other review platforms. I explained to RealSelf that I considered this pattern to amount to harassment. RealSelf reviewed the complaint but decided that the review could remain.
I fully support patients’ right to describe both good and bad experiences, and surgeons should expect legitimate criticism. However, there is an important distinction between genuine patient feedback and a sustained campaign of repeated online posting by one individual. In my experience, RealSelf’s moderation policies do not adequately recognise that distinction.
A platform carrying considerable influence over doctors’ professional reputations should, in my view, have particularly transparent commercial practices and robust safeguards against its review system being used in this way.
I am disappointed that my recent dealings with RealSelf have left me with concerns about both.

i felt that they mis-advertised
i felt that they mis-advertised, and they often resprecent doctors and or others that do not have a good track record. I think they should do more due dilgence than just take someones money. It makes me not trust real self.

Hi Amy,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We take provider quality seriously, and we're happy to share the process every provider goes through before they can even create a profile on RealSelf.
We verify that each provider's medical license is active and free of sanctions, and we confirm their board certifications. From there, participation on the site is limited to their certified areas of practice. (For example, a dentist can't offer input on a facelift.) Our full listing criteria are public here: https://www.realself.com/professionals/policies/criteria
We'd like to understand what happened in your specific case, since this is exactly the kind of thing we investigate. Could you email us at [email protected] with more details? We'll take a closer look.

Realself accepted then delted review
Explain why you deleted an important patient review after you had already accepted and published it.
This review was backed by evidence and described what the patient says was a devastating outcome following surgery. An egyptian surgeon from cairo breast and body clinic operated while wearing a cast on his hand and told her he could perform the procedure with one hand. She reports suffering catastrophic complications afterward, including that her skin became detached from the underlying tissue, and says she privately sent RealSelf documentation and evidence supporting her account.
Despite receiving this information, you removed the review after it had already been approved. Patients deserve to know why. If the review complied with your policies when it was accepted, what changed?
Patient safety should always come before protecting reputations. Review platforms have a responsibility to handle serious, evidence-supported patient reports fairly and transparently. Removing such a review without a clear explanation raises legitimate questions about your moderation process. A surgeon doing a surgery with a broken hand is DANGEROUS and he botched many women doing unsafe procedures.
From this point forward, we believe RealSelf should be held accountable for its censorship of legitimate patient reviews. By removing reviews that patients rely on to make informed decisions, you risk preventing others from seeing important information before choosing a surgeon.
This egyptian doctor was already condemned by a court and the Egyptian Ministry of health closed hos clinic for investigation. !! He was also banned from whatclinic for fake reviews, misleading patient…DO NOT TRUST REALSEF

Hi Dominique,
Thanks for reaching out. Reviews are removed when they don't meet our content guidelines. Reviewers can also remove or update their reviews at any time, so there are a few reasons a review might not appear the way you remember it.
If you can share the doctor's name and the reviewer's name, we'll be able to find the review.
Please email us at [email protected] with those details and we'll take a closer look.

We are a group of victims who were…
We are a group of victims who were botched by an Egyptian surgeon breast and body clinic Cairo who performed surgery on a Danish woman while wearing a cast on his hand, WITH BROKEN hand with no regard for safety or hygiene.
Her review was accepted on RealSelf, and then it was deleted !
This woman shared WhatsApp messages from this doctor in which he said it was okay because he could do it using only one hand !!
Fake reviews on platforms are putting people's lives at risk !
This surgeon was already banned from WhatClinic for fake reviews ( picture where he complains on pissed consumer about WhatClinic) He also had 21 suspicious Google reviews removed after they were all posted on the same day...
He now became active on RealSelf, he started posting new reviews on his RealSelf page, all following the same pattern.
This raises serious questions about how seriously Realself takes patient safety and the integrity of its reviews !
This particular surgeon is reportedly under investigation by the Egyptian Ministry of Health as well as 3 prosecutors.
I do not consider RealSelf to be a reliable or trustworthy platform when it comes to verifying medical professionals or protecting patients. We should all be very careful.

Patient safety is our top priority, and we take claims like these seriously. Transparency is important to us, so we welcome the opportunity to address some of the issues you raised.
Every provider is screened before receiving a profile, including verification of medical license and board certifications. As of now, this doctor's license shows no sanctions on record. Changes may be reflected on a doctor’s profile and their access may be restricted accordingly.
Every review on RealSelf goes through both automated screening and human moderation before it’s published. Reviews that violate our guidelines - including reviews written by a doctor about themselves - are removed when identified. That said, it's not unusual for a doctor with a new profile to reach out to past patients and ask for reviews, and a provider accumulating a number of reviews shortly after joining is not, by itself, a violation of our guidelines.
Unfortunately, we don't have visibility into moderation decisions made by other platforms, including Google or WhatClinic, and can't speak to why content was removed there. Those questions are best directed to those companies.
If you have any additional questions, please email our support team at [email protected] so our team can respond directly.

UNTRUSTWORTHY
UNTRUSTWORTHY. Needs to be held accountable.
I relied on RealSelf because it presented itself as a trusted, unbiased resource for people researching cosmetic procedures. Unfortunately, my experience left me feeling misled and deeply disappointed.
As a consumer, I believed I was reading authentic patient reviews and objective information that would help me make an informed medical decision. Instead, I later came to question whether the platform’s business model creates conflicts of interest that consumers may not fully understand. In my opinion, the distinction between advertising and unbiased recommendations was not as clear as I expected when making such an important healthcare decision.

Hi, and thank you for giving us the opportunity to share more about reviews on our site.
Reviewers are not compensated for writing reviews and they choose to share their experiences voluntarily. Consumer reviews are also separate from advertising on our platform and they are not paid placements.
We'd like to better understand your concerns, so please email our support team at [email protected]. We'll be happy to learn more and see how we can help.

Realself changed my review. Don't trust!
I wrote a lengthy review about my horrible experience with Dr Dorner. Realself completely changed my review even though they say they don't. Do not trust anything on realself.
