As a new user I was amazed how hateful many of the people are there. Especially when it comes to politics. The first thing I read was the community guidelines section and the first thing it mentioned was being inclusive and not tolerating hate speech. They clearly do not practice what they preach. The vitriol is off the chart hateful. These people are very unhappy and totally eaten up with hate for their neighbors.

I used Ravelry for many years and enjoyed it until it became a political cesspool. They labeled about half of their customers in a hateful way. There was a mass exodus from the site and other businesses have stepped up to take their place. Ravelry has become a place for hate where personal attacks on people is common place. I removed all of my files and closed my account. Google it. This took place around June 23, 2019. I will never go back.

There are better craft sites to get patterns from without all the political hate talk. Avoid Ravelry. I closed my account, deleted all my photos just days before my ten year mark with them.

As the previous reviewer has said, Ravelry is the most complete database of patterns and yarn there is. HOWEVER, it may be free for general users, but those of us who donated in the beginning to get the site up and running and have had a business there for years, paying commission and advertising costs, view things a bit differently. The site has not kept out hate speech at all and unfortunately it is not a good place to be any more. The mob rules and there are personal attacks against good people who just want to knit or crochet. The mob will bringing down a business owned by good, hardworking people if they think that they don't share the 'right' views. Users are being followed to other social media sites and verbally attacked. The last time I was on there, a member from Egypt was being put down by someone, very nastily I might add, for misspelling the name of the site - for goodness sake, what happened to kindness. These things should have been stopped as soon as they started, but they weren't and some were encouraged. I'm not sure that the owners can come back from this. It's a shame.

Ravelry is a FREE platform with no membership fees or subscription for general users. It has the most complete database of yarn, patterns, and designers on the internet and has been a solid resource for years. It also includes forums, messaging, and ways to buy and sell stash yarn direct from other users. Their offering is robust and their policy to keep out the monetization of hate speech and memorabilia protects their users. The fact is that many users wish to continue hurting others and Ravelry is not afraid to stand up. Their redesign maintains all of the same functionality as before. I recommend the Night Light function or adjusting your monitor settings if harsh colors bother you in general.

Loved Ravelry for many years - a great place for fibre related conversation, events, advice, buying and selling. Somewhere peaceful to visit, not be judged, inspiring and calming. Now it is very political, unpleasant and I would be in fear of posting anything on there.

Ravelry was once simple and pure, a place to share knitting patterns and techniques. Now it’s just a political shill that doesn’t offer much in the way of creative expression. The site has always looked like hell, too.

Everyone should be able to look and search on this site safely. Members have had issues with accessibility and I, myself, had a migraine after browsing patterns on the new layout. These issues have yet to be resolved despite numerous complaints from members. I have deleted my account
