I've been a member since the start. Ravelry has lead the way in progressives values while still maintaining an open and welcoming forum for all. The fact that they've managed to get so many bigots to publicly out themselves is just a happy coincidence. Just look at them all using their real names and photos and everything. Sometimes the trash bags itself 😁

I've been a member of ravelry since its beta days and you won't find a better online fibre resource anywhere. Massive pattern database, forums galore, pattern sales, and a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who make sure everything is kept running smoothly.

LEFT THE LEFTIES AND THEIR POLITICAL HATRED
I joined Ravelry in their beginning years when they were all about the fiber arts and enjoyed my years of fellowship with others who were like-minded. They evolved into a hate mongering, trolling site that excluded anyone who did not agree with the politics of the left. That kind of behavior started several years ago-not just in recent months! I've removed my account and I'm glad I no longer belong to such a hate filled, narrow minded group!

Ravelry has single handedly divided the knit and crochet community into angry political sides. We have always just been a group of crafters gathering together over our common hobby, but they have turned it into a witch hunt for conservatives. Shame on you ravelry (and your users who contribute to this nastiness). You claim to be inclusive while excluding half of the voter base. That's far from inclusive. Someone there needs to open a dictionary.

Ravelry got too political
Ravelry got too political. I used this site frequently to find patterns for customers, read yarn reviews to decide whether to purchase them, and referred Ravelry to all my new knitting customers. I've never used their forums, but since they've enacted this new policy of banning Trump mentions and patterns and equating Trump supporters as white supremacists, I read a few of them and couldnt believe the vitriol they allowed. Progressive members berating conservative members with such hatred malice, and mischaracterizations went over the line, and their allowing anti Trump products and discussions to stay is hypocritical. Whatever prompted Rav to enact this policy could have been more maturely handled by dealing with those involved.
Because of this, I closed my account and will not recommend Rav to my new knitting customers nor use it to help anyone find patterns. This once awesome site has become an awful and unsafe place for those who don't agree with their political positions. Politics are bad for business, and I will not be involved here.

Great source for patterns and independent thinkers. People are butthurt that they aren't allowed to be openly bigoted anymore. I say good riddance to the garbage, and hello to a more inclusive, self aware group.

It used to be good, now it's a cesspool of hate
I was one of the first 2000 members of Ravelry. Over the years, I used the site to find and purchase knitting patterns, organize my projects and supplies, and interact with others with similar interests. Then on June 23, 2019, that all changed.
The owners of Ravelry posted a new policy for the site, in which they proclaimed that any supporter of President Trump is undeniably a supporter of white supremacy. Then while they claimed that conservatives would still be welcome to post their views as long as it was not in support of Trump or his administration, they still banned people for as little as saying "God Bless you" or other innocuous things in the forums. Further, all groups that were on conservative topics were closed down except one, and in there, anti-conservative members baited the conservative members with hateful statements.
The affects of this new policy spilled over and out into other social media, where people were ganging up on individuals and businesses, harassing and bullying them to make a statement regarding the policy. If they tried to stay neutral, they were also declared to be white supremacists. As of today, there is a gay man in the UK who is hospitalized because of the stress of such harassment and bullying that resulted from him posting basically, "Can't we all get along?"
The social justice narrative is hateful and destructive, and has no place in a site meant for designers and makers of fiber art, but Ravelry has made their site an ally of that hateful mob. Sane, reasonable people would do well to steer clear. New sites are under development now, to take the place of the hateful Ravelry.
