I no longer want to have a monthly bill with protection 1, but because i have a "contract" over mickey mouse upgrades, there is a fee to cancel. Customer service offered no options and had a very dry personality. They can have their "upgrades" back in exchange for me being able to cancel. Im very disappointed. They would not work with me. Wish someone from protection 1 who appreciates the 7 years ive been with them would call me and work with me

customer service
I called the company to check their rates, spoke to a very pleasant girl, she offered me a free installation with upgrade to free sensors to all windows and doors. I waited for a week, when a technician arrived to my house it appeared that I had to pay, I spoke to customer service three times, they promised that a manager will call me back to clarify and nobody did, they are very nice on the phone but nobody follows on an issue. Would not recommend this company to anybody.

Promises Not Kept
I was sold a system with many monitoring options that do not work or were not installed. I have yet to be contacted on how they will reduce my monthly rate based on what was actually installed and working properly.
Just received my bill and was billed in full for all services despite them being incomplete.
Customer service was friendly, but no resolution.
Just got back from out of the country to find out that my system wasn't working while I was gone.
I will be fighting this contract and have all items removed from my home and all money credited back.
Horrible Experience!
Definatly will not refer or recommend!

One of the worse service experiences I have ever had
I inherited Protection One through their acquisition of ASG Security. I had two residential and one business accounts with them. These are all less than one hour from their nearest office in Wilmington, NC. It seemed to almost always to be a problem to get them to come out for service, and on most occasions, the problems were not resolved, which necessitated another visit. When false alarms occurred, the monitoring service would call, but not identify which of my three sites they were calling about. The monitoring company call center representatives were like robots, and did not articulate and talked too fast, so I had to ask them to repeat everything. When they increased their rates, I immediately cancelled my service through a phone call, and in writing to the Wilmington office. The phone call was like trying to buy a used car. They insisted that I speak to their supervisor, " Alex ". She would not listen to me and was rude, and didn't want to take " no " for an answer. I'm guessing their ill-timed rate increases resulted in lots of cancellations, and Alex was feeling the pressure. She said I had to give a verbal and written cancellation notice. I told her I have never heard of such, but I did. I finally told her I was hanging up, and did so, and then wrote " Cancel Service" on my bill I mailed to Wilmington, NC. That was February 22, 2016. Since my bill was an auto-pay on my credit card, I went online to stop future payments, and saw that the next one was to be drafted the next day on February 23, so I did not stop it until the March 23 payment. Since that time, I have been harassed by phone like I have never been before. I have explained the above sequence to the callers multiple times. I finally asked one of the callers if they did not look at the notes on my computer record, and she admitted that they did not, that they merely got a computer prompt to make a collection call to my number. They really could not tell me the time period they were trying to collect for. I specifically asked the last one to tell her supervisor that I suggest they review the call notes, assuming my comments were recorded. The latest calls are threatening to turn me over to a collection agency. I am writing the President of Protection One today , if I can find him/her, and am copying the NC Justice Department, Consumer Division, and will post on the Protection One Facebook page. I owned and operated a large and successful business for nearly thirty years, so I understand customer service. Protection One obviously does not, and I would not refer them to anyone for any service. -- Steve Smith, North Carolina

Not good.
There were a series of screw ups that started 2 days before my service was to start that made me lose any confidence in this company.
Alarm went off. They called my secondary person, not the person on the account, or even me. I called to get more info since they had talked to me and they couldn't. Now they realized I was not starting service yet. They didn't call the primary either. When she called, they wouldn't her any info either, told her it wasn't her account any more. The first time I called my password worked fine, 30 minutes later I was told I gave the wrong password. If this excuses confidence by all means use this company. To me it is total incompetents. The people I spoke to were rude in the service department. The people in sales were nice and didn't want to lose my business. Go figure.

I would give this zero stars if I could
Our fire alarm installed by Protection 1 had gone off. There was no smoke in the house, the stove and oven were off, there was nothing to my knowledge to set it off. The wall alarm installed by Protection 1 had gone off almost immediately after, due to the fire alarm going off. The company called and kept telling us to hit the disarm button on the wall alarm and put in the password. We did. It would stop for a few seconds, then go off again, even though it read it was disarmed. The fire alarm continued to go off, the disarm did nothing to prevent that. They repeatedly told us to do it again and again and again, with obviously, the same results each time.
I had called from another phone to speak with someone else. She told me the same thing the other dispatcher was telling us to do, and of course, it did not work. I was told if I wanted a technician to come out, it would cost $190 per half hour since it was a weekend. I asked to speak with a manager. I was put on the phone with "R". "R" knew as much as the dispatcher. She told me to do the disarm again and again and again. She then told me no one could come out unless I paid the $190 for the "emergency service". She told me to unscrew the back up battery thing from the outlet. I did eventually get that out of the wall. She told me to unscrew the wall alarm, but she did not know if it had a screw or not, a technician would need to come out to see that if I did not do it myself, but I would still have to pay $190. I asked her if this happens to other people, and she said YES it does. This is not a one time thing. I was never able to unscrew the wall alarm, I could not find a screwdriver small enough for the screw they had put in. I accidentally hung up on "R", but I was clearly getting no help anyways.
The wall alarm had shut down after about half an hour, I don't know if the battery finally ran out without the back up in the outlet or what, but it stopped. The fire alarm kept going off, however. It is on the ceiling, where I can not reach. There was a button to silence it, which I could reach by holding a broom up to it, but I had to keep doing that every few minutes, or it would go off again. I called back, asking to speak with a different supervisor other than "R". One was found, I did not catch her name. She was not rude, but she still did not give me options other than "get a ladder" or "pay the fee" for the technician to come out. I told her I did not want to stand in the middle of the hallway holding a broom to the ceiling to quiet the alarm all weekend (it was SATURDAY) until someone could come out on Monday, and I was not going to pay $190/half hour for something that is the fault of the company and something that they should be handling. I asked if they had any type of plan in place for this thing, and she said no other than charging their customers for "emergency services" on the weekends.
The company refused to help me without charging me, and they refused to cancel our service as it was a weekend. This happens to other people, I am not the first person this has happened to, yet they have no plan in place for this thing other than charging their customers to have a technician come out on the weekend for what they call an "emergency". This is the biggest problem so far. I have had problems in the past, such as the sensors falling off of doors and windows, causing the alarm to go off until the system was disabled, which we were charged for them to come and put them back up as well, even though they used a weak adhesive to put them on in the first place.

Dishonest! They are legal crooks!
They are very dishonest and deceitful. They are truly a horrible company, that practices bad business consistently. Please people trust me and DO NOT SIGN CONTRACT! They will make you pay the remaining months of there 3 year contract. So for me I owe them $1,006 for the remaining 24 months of my contract. It was still cheaper to pay the $1,006 and to get a new security system plus four cameras. Than what protection 1 was going to charge me for just three cameras. Stay FAR FAR FAR AWAY from Protection 1 aka "Poopey 1"

Just a long bad experience
Big claims from the sales staff, but unfortunately just the opposite in performance. Just bad on multiple levels, scary bad
