Shady business
Your company is very misleading. Tons of hidden charges and salesmen say anything to get a new account. Only positive thing I have to say is about the equipment and the installer was very helpful.

Did not get the services I was told I'd be receiving. Was told I'd be getting a call back within two business days and it's been over a week.

Overall I'm satisfied with Protection One's security system, but their billing practices leave something to be desired and are borderline unethical. When I signed up I went with their third tier package for $49.99 (now $44.99) All 4 of Protection One's packages have smoke/fire detection. A few months in I added a smoke detector that was supported by the system. Protection1 graciously offered to add it to the system with me over the phone. Yet, when I called in, I was transferred to sales. I was told fire/smoke detection would cost $5 /month to be added to the plan. Huh? The plan I signed up for has smoke/fire detection, in fact, every plan does. After about an hour and a half of arguing, they offered to drop it to $1 /per month additional. Sure, Protection One, make $30 additional off of me for the 3 year contract, and for that $30 I'll switch to someone else immediately when my contract is up AND I'll tell everyone that asks me about a security company about your additional fees and unethical practices. Second, Protection One offers $50 "referrals" for the referrer and referree. My neighbor referred me and I mentioned it at time of sale. It took me probably 3-4 calls to get the referral added, and when I did my monthly bill for that month was $100 vs my normal $50. Am I that dumb? Increase my normal $50 bill to $100 and then credit a $50 referral? Pretty sure my neighbor never received his "referral", but then again I don't feel I did either.

We have had problems with our system since the installation a few weeks ago. Sensors not working, newly installed equipment falling off the wall, issues with the delay when entering the house which is causing the alarm to go off. Also had an appt set up for service with a 4 hour window. The repair man never came.

System has been installed for 2 weeks and I am waiting a second time already for someone to come out because faulty sensors were put in. The last guy set off the duress alarm, unknown to me. Hour later they called and asked if I was ok. An hour later! I said yes it must have been the techie. An hour later the cops showed up! Two hours after the alarm was accidently set by the Protection 1 guy. I would have been long dead by then if it had been real.

I was told that I would get a thermostat like the Nest learning thermostat by the salesman. When I mentioned installing the thermostat to the technician, he said it was not like the Nest thermostats. Also, have a small dog that will set off the motion detector when the system is set to away so that defeats the purpose of having the camera and motion detector in the house if it always has to be set to stay. The salesman knew I have a small dog. On the 1st day the system was used, I got an alert system there was an open back door. Turns out that sensor is acting up and throws an open door warning whenever it feels like it.

My first bill includes tax that I did not expect. My original proposal clearly states there would be no tax on the installation, and I was not charged tax at the time of installation. The tax appeared on my first bill and sure enough they snuck it into the contract and I didn't notice. They also automatically signed me up for auto-pay, which I never do and did not knowingly authorize. Furthermore, they sent me a bill with no indication of auto-pay so had I not happened to check the web site I would have ended up paying twice. Very disappointing.

Didn't place things back where they were, had to leave and come back. Which took longer for the installation.
