I have Protection 1 in a business setting, for Access control. I ran out of keys, and ordered more. After waiting 2 weeks, I called back and just told them that I would come pick them up from the local office. Then, the keys didn't work. I had a tech out to look at the system, had no idea what was wrong with it. I then had an "install Tech" coming out, he called me asking that I meet him there, then called back, saying that he would have to do it tomorrow. Now, they are telling me that they have the wrong part, and that they will get to it next week. It is to late for me, save yourself!!

My experience started off smoothly with friendly customer service and solid installation. When installing my system, the tech apparently could not get one of the pieces to work with my system. He installed a different part (without consulting me first or getting my authorization) that was $70 more expensive. I did not realize I would be charged for this until much later in what became probably a 7 or 8 phone call debacle in which I ultimately have been asked to pay more than agreed up front. I emailed customer service and, to date, that email has been unanswered. I asked the part be removed, but that was met with push-back. This was a very frustrating and time-consuming mess. The system is very nice, and I'm hoping this was just a rocky start to a solid service. The system itself appears high quality and is certainly pleasing to the eye. The tech was pleasant and, although the installation of the extra part led to this mess, I genuinely believe he was trying to help and make my system the best it could be.

Most of my issues could be resolved, most likey with a proper explanation of how my system works. My video door bell has issues. I have no way of viewing the door bell clips but I got a msg that I was going over my video storage and my be charged extra but I cant view any clips

I honestly waited to write this review, hoping that my next appointment and contact with someone from Protection 1 could overcome the lackluster service and experience I've had thus far. However this isn't the case. Initially I thought I would be very pleased with this company given the excellent experience and personality of the sales rep I spoke with. Since then my dealings with customer service and the local branch have overshadowed this first impression. First, the technician who arrived for my initial appointment opened with a complaint about the curbside foliage on our street which caused him to have to move his van rather than the typical, "Hi, my name is." Bad first impression. While he did make an attempt to problem solve how to set up the wireless system in the same locale as the old one, he ultimately could not do so. While installing the system, I asked if he had the thermostat which I had also requested be installed. He said no that it wasn't listed on the ticket. Rather than call his supervisor right away, he asked me for the name of the customer service guy I talked to, as it to pass off on him the miscommunication. Upon calling his supervisor, Doug- in the Mendota Heights office, he learned that indeed the thermostat was listed on the ticket but didn't get passed on to him. I do recall receiving an apology for the confusion and another appointment was made to install the thermostat for later in the month. Unfortunately I had to cancel this appointment 5 days prior to the date and called the general Protection 1 number to reschedule and was given an appointment today (Thursday) with an 8a-12p window. No technician had showed by 12p. So I called the general number again and received an apology. They put me on the phone with Doug-again-who appeared to have no idea the appointment was changed and said "your appointment was for Monday, I'm not going to be able to get a technician out to you today." Very little in the way of an apology for the confusion, he did reschedule for tomorrow. I hope that whatever experience I have tomorrow with this subsequent installation trumps these negative experiences. The only reason I haven't cancelled my service is because the equipment does work and the initial first impression of the customer sales rep.

I was told by the sales person that my insurance discount would be 10-25%. It turned out to be only 6%. I accidentally set off the alarm as I was leaving the house one evening-when I received the call from Protection 1, I could not figure out my verbal code-turns out that the installer had spelled my verbal code incorrectly-how would I have guessed that? Also I did not know about registering the alarm with the city until I received a letter in the mail 10 days after the install. Had I known about all of these things, I never would have signed up for this.
