I wasn’t sure what to expect when I…
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I signed up for two months. I wasn’t expecting a “boot camp” type experience. I have lots of problems with my body... both knees, lower back, A fib. I wasn’t able to keep up with the group activities but the trainers gave me alternative exercises I could do. What I wasn’t expecting was to become very strong after two weeks! My body changed so much over two months I feel like a different person. I lost weight and learned what it takes portion wise what I should eat to continue to loose more weight. The food at camp was delicious and from time to time I couldn’t eat the main course but they made me a protein shake instead. The salad bar was always delicious. During my time I did some personal training, counseling, watched cooking demonstrations, had massages, chiropractic work done, went to all of the learning lectures which were much nicer than a typical “lecture”, went on a grocery store tour to learn about what labels really tell us about the food we eat, went on a spice store tour to learn which spices I like, went to the spa for manicures, pedicures which were helpful for my feet, massages, went to Road Rummer Shoes as one of the outings and bought the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. I’m leaving here after 74 days a completely confident person who couldn’t walk when I got here to walk-in 4-7 miles a day which is something I couldn’t do for the past 25 years due to a foot injury. The other campers are here for many of the same reasons and I formed a few close friendships. The staff of the camp are very supportive and caring!! I will be back often if only for a week at a time. I want to continue my successful lifestyle change. The attitude of the camp and program is totally supportive in helping me when I am at home. They all let me and the others know that the training, help and answers continue when we the campers are home. I worked with Diane Aiken who is one of the people that you can talk to about enrolling in the camp. Her phone number is 760-445-2700. She works with Kaleigh who is kind of for better words the camp “Consierge”. What ever I needed Diane and Kaleigh made it happen for me. It took me a long time to learn all of the staff’s names but it is remarkable that they knew mine right away. With 15-20 new campers coming and going each week they do an awesome job of knowing each camper by name and need. They have meeting each week to discuss how they can help each camper. I’m sad my stay is coming to an end but I will be back soon. I will say that throughout the experience my attitude and concerns with the program changed several times but in the end I’m so happy I came and leave with great power and knowledge of my health.
