Thanks so much, Glyn! We’re really glad Photomyne does exactly what you need it to. Sometimes that’s the best compliment we can get - simple, useful, and it gets the job done!

Photoshop pro using PM over a year for a family photos project
Ive been using Photomyne, on the phone app, desktop, and PRO for a little over a year. Heres my review. In the beginning, I was in love with it. The ease in taking pics of photo prints -- that were automatically cropped, rotated and sharpened/enhanced -- was a mind blower. Still is. But as the work progressed, Ive realized many shortcomings along with these revolutionary features.
First let me state that I am a graphic designer well versed in image retouching and processing with 35 years of photoshop behind me. Photoshop is much better at it than Photomyne, but each photo and action must be taken manually (batch processing is an option but not for a wide variety of exposures, off colors and subject matter) So Photomyne initially -- and still -- impresses as a quick, sophisticated solution to digitizing our loose prints easily up to a certain level of quality from the usual poor state of 30 year old photo prints taken with non-professional cameras back then.
As Ive been using the app, Ive been frustrated with many features. Here are my notes on problematic aspects of Photomyne that need to be -- or should be -- addressed, for you to stay ahead of all the other AI driven photo enhancing apps now available.
1) Sharpy only does the faces. Why isn't there an option to sharpen the entire image? or everything except the faces?
2) Sharpy too often goes too far and relies too heavily on AI, resulting in faces that look weird, over processed, plasticcy and often no longer look like the actual people in them (which is a problem because this is a family photo project tool and we who know each face intimately and can see when the AI makes them unrecognizable or with way too much makeup, etc. Other apps like Topaz have addressed this plastic look by adding back grain and grime making images more realistic.
3) Sometimes Sharpy leave an "outline" around the face area, like a rectangle shape.. that has to be fixed.
4) You need to add a manual "spot healing brush" to fix spots and other issues in the images. And also a feature that retouches the entire image, fixing rips, tears spots etc. Many apps already have this. It's not perfect, but as is, we have no control over these defects.
5) Sharpy is brilliant in fixing all faces in each image it finds: BUT it too often fails to recognize all faces in each photo unless they have all features and are looking at the camera. In these images we get two or three faces in focus -- but people right next to them with heads turned a bit are unchanged, which is not a realistic outcome. With these images, I have to reverse out Sharpy and leave them as is,
6) Colorizing: This is brilliant much of the time! Especially with flesh tones in old BW photos. Really brings them to life. But far too often, your AAI shape selection algorithm missed an arm, or a leg etc, leaving them grey; as well coloring garments in more than one color. Or hallucinating colors that arent realistic. So Colorizing is unreliable and hit or miss too often. (other apps are also having this problem, but Photomyne would do well to fix it first.
7) the Desktop app (but not the phone app) has Enhance color: its unclear what this does. And the online version doesnt have the various image enhancers at all?? the 12 or so "one step" tone shift template fixes. What arent each version identical as to features?
8) in many ways the desktop version is preferable: larger images so that bad sharpy and/or coloring errors are more noticeable. I find I must check each image Ive enhanced in the phone again to remove these enhancements that looked fine when viewed tiny on my phone.
Also the Desktop Colorize doesn't have the choice of 4 levels of coloring. Why? Same for Sharpy.
8) some images with faces that are 50% grey or unlit evenly will turn blood orange with Colorize feature. Should be a simple AI tweak to make faces lighter when at a certain level of grey or mid tone. To give them a shaded flesh tone but NOT an orange look.
Finally: The enhancement features on the desktop app require an extra click to begin. If we click Colorize, we have chosen to colorize the image... why have us click again? This happens with Sharpy and Colorize.
I could add more but if this reaches Photomyne's desk, I think these would be areas of improvement that can help Photomyne stay ahead of the other apps.
Thanx for the opportunity to let then know how the app works, and disappoints.

Arnie, thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and detailed review. And after more than a year of using Photomyne for a family photo project, you’ve clearly put the app through its paces!
We really appreciate your perspective, especially with your many years of Photoshop and retouching experience. You’ve pointed out some very specific areas where Sharpy, Colorize, face detection, and the differences between mobile and desktop could be better, and this kind of detailed feedback is genuinely helpful to our team.
One thing we do want to add is that Photomyne is first and foremost a photo scanning and preservation app. Our main goal is to make it incredibly easy and fast for anyone to digitize, organize, and preserve large collections of old photos. The enhancement and AI restoration tools have grown around that core experience as additional ways to help bring those photos back to life, rather than trying to replace the level of precision and manual control you’d get from a dedicated professional editing tool like Photoshop. That said, we absolutely want those tools to keep getting better, more natural, and more consistent.
We’d also love to take a closer look at some of the specific examples you mentioned, particularly the Sharpy and Colorize results. Please reach out to us at [email protected] and mention your review so our team can find your case easily and continue the conversation with you.
Thanks again, Arnie. We really appreciate both the compliments and the criticism - and especially the amount of thought you put into helping us improve Photomyne.

Memories enhanced
I have been using Photomyne for some time now and it has been an enormously helpful tool, in particular sharing and editing old photos. The "restore" facility is amazing where some of my pre digital photos are not very clear.
Response from photomyne.comAug 29, 2026
Kerryn, thank you for being with Photomyne for so long! We love hearing that it’s helped you not only preserve and share your old photos, but bring some of those less-clear pre-digital memories back to life with Restore. It’s wonderful knowing those photos can now be enjoyed more clearly again.

I love this app
I love this app. At 68, i have Thousands of photos of my Grandparents, me, my kids and grandkids. In those days everything went into photo albums, or in shoe boxes that my Dad used and I am not going to be around forever so I got this app so I could attempt to scan everything into one place. I am a little technology challenged, but this app is a breeze. It is worth it, when I am gone people will only have to look in one place for the pics instead of inheriting 100s of photo albums. I even share some of these with my Grandbabies now so I can get their reactions when I embarrass my kids.

Tamra, we absolutely love this. Knowing Photomyne is helping you bring generations of family memories - from your grandparents to your grandbabies - together in one place is exactly why we do what we do. And sharing those photos now to embarrass your kids a little makes it even better! Thank you for trusting us with such precious memories.

I'm Loving It!
I use photomyne mainly to scan slides and to upgrade and colorize old black and white photos. For both needs it works beautifully, and the quality of the restorations is amazing. Now some of my old faded slides and plain black and white shots have been turned into sharp, bright, color images. My family is very impressed; they think I am a genius.
Response from photomyne.comAug 29, 2026
Jan, this made us smile! We love hearing that your faded slides and old black-and-white photos are looking bright and full of life again. And if your family thinks you’re a genius, we certainly won’t tell them your secret! Thanks for letting Photomyne be part of bringing these memories back to life.

One of the most useful apps I’ve ever had.
One of the most useful apps I’ve ever had which I use all the time. Having once used it to digitise my own family photo anlbums annd pictures, as well as those of my mother, I am now able to access both sets of photos easily, directly from my iPhone or iPad. I’ve been with Photomyne for almost 10 years and the service has been impeccable. It’s a fantastic product which I’ve recommended to so many friends.
Response from photomyne.comAug 29, 2026
Brian, nearly 10 years with Photomyne - what an incredible journey! It means so much to hear that you’ve used the app to preserve both your own family albums and your mother’s, and that those memories are now always within reach.
We'd genuinely love to hear more about your experience. We have been having casual chats with some of our longtime users to hear their stories, learn how Photomyne has become part of their lives, and understand what matters most to them. After almost a decade with us, we’d especially love to hear yours!
If you’d be up for a friendly chat sometime, you can choose whatever time works for you here: https://calendly.com/maya-photomyne/30min
And thank you, Brian, not only for being with us for so long, but for recommending Photomyne to your friends too. We really appreciate it.

Great tools for scanning and restoring old photos
Easy to install, understand features, use and organize scanned pictures. User-friendly interface and communication with phone and laptop, although the link provided via email not always working. Scanning is easy, delivering good picture quality. Access to AI restoration and enhancements features is very helpful when restoring old and damaged originals. AI restoration features work well in general. Couple of shortfalls: scratches and tears feature not always helpful, almost always requires multiple runs, often generating more scratches images in new areas. Sometimes needed several attempts still without results. Face and blurr restoration work well in general, but sometimes changing eyes impression. Fix multiple issues tool is especially useful. Although, randomly generating dresses clothes and some time skin colors. Would be nice to having an option for changing generated colors. Face generation works well only for larger and cleaner images. But for smaller, blurry and damaged images seems like face is replaced with images from the general database. In my case it was always not even close. Would be great to having an option to adding images to use for restoration. In a summery: very good tools, I’m satisfied with results of using it, essentially for restoring old, damaged, bad quality pictures.

Thank you, Victor, for such a detailed and thoughtful review. We’re glad you’re enjoying Photomyne’s scanning, organization, and restoration tools overall, especially Fix Multiple Issues.
We also really appreciate your specific feedback about scratch and tear repair, changes to facial details, generated colors, and restoring smaller or heavily damaged faces. AI restoration can sometimes produce unexpected results when the original image has limited or damaged visual information, and feedback like yours helps us understand where the experience can improve. Your suggestions for more control over generated colors and the ability to provide reference images are especially valuable, and we’ll share them with our team.
We’d also be happy to take a closer look at the restoration issues you experienced and see how we can help improve your results. Please reach out to us at [email protected] and mention your review so our team can locate your case and assist you as quickly as possible.
Thank you again for using Photomyne to preserve and restore your old photos!

so-so
half the time when I rotate a picture, it doesn't save it until the second, third or fourth attempt. I've also had it delete pics that should not have gone away, and I don't see how I can re-order photos in an album. I'd also like to add the story where I want it, rather than have it blocking part of the picture I need.
After the response team saw my message they were very helpful in letting me know how to re-order (at least on the phone app - I haven't tried it yet on my computer) and pointed out that the "story should not be blocking the picture. I expect it only blocks while viewing in the app. When downloaded, the story is a separate file, so that's fine. The deletion may be pilot error - as I'm not sure what happens when I've modified a photo (although I usually duplicate first). I still have trouble with rotations.
Response from photomyne.comAug 29, 2026
Hi Ruth, we’re really sorry you’ve been having such a frustrating experience. Having to repeat the same action several times, or seeing photos disappear when you weren’t expecting them to, can understandably take away from the experience, and we’d really like to help.
There is a way to reorder photos within an album. Open the album and, on iOS, tap the three dots in the top-right and choose “Reorder photos.” On Android, long-press a photo and select “Reorder photos.” From there, you can simply drag your photos into the order you’d like and save.
As for the story/details blocking part of your photo, that shouldn’t be happening, so we’d really like to understand exactly what you’re seeing. We’d also like to look into the rotation and missing-photo issues you mentioned.
Please email us at [email protected] and mention your review so our team can easily find your case and go through everything with you. We’re sorry for the trouble, Ruth, and we’d really appreciate the chance to help make your experience with Photomyne a better one.
