I cannot say enough good things about my experiences with Penn. I have been taking my sister for a long time and now I use them for everything, every need I have. They go beyond my expectations and more. And unfortunately I have a lot of experience with physicians and care. God Bless them! Love them.

I went to ER in center city almost 5…
I went to ER in center city almost 5 months ago. I had a mechanical fall, hurt my back &broke my finger. The finger was treated by a PA who tried to reduce the fracture & failed, treated it very rough, Then the brains took an x-ray with the metal splint on it, brilliant, nit. The PA told me back xray was fine. No everything’s not fine. Didn’t even refer me to a back specialist. Almost 5 months later I get a $500 plus bill from Penn billing. I went through my claims with the insurance company and they had paid them over $1000 or more for everything. The reduction of the finger was not coded correctly by Penn billing & insurance company denied it, sent them something to correct the code which they never did. They ended up sending me a 500+ bill in the mail and I was furious. My only responsibility was the co-pay for the ER. I spoke to them today and they told me “oh they forgot to send it to insurance.” Come on, this big hospital system stupidly sends bills to patients when their insurance information is right in front of their eyes.. How can they have such inept billers & coders? I was thinking that this hospital ER was the lesser of the two evils, since Jefferson is just as bad or worse. But at least they’re billing is correct. I will not go back to Penn. They they tricked me into taking two x-rays by the specialist office and it was over $100 because they use “hospital equipment.”
Total BS. Their doctors are just as bad lazy and don’t know how to communicate with the patient. Horrible experience.

The doctors missed a very large…
The doctors missed a very large synovial cyst and a missing a bone in my back along with The Mri Group in which the doctors recommended to get my mri done. Thanks for ruining my life and brushing off my concerns and the crappy hospital stay after Surgery. The crappy physical therapists and cover ups. You get zero stars 0

Penn Orthopedics - complete mess
I've had a hip replacement and while the surgery appears to have gone fine, the post operative care borders on making patients unsafe - if not already having crossed that line. There is perilously poor communication, lack of deep understanding of total patient health, lack of quality and accurate documentation in portals. An unbelievably unnerving experience which has left me thinking I need to scurry somewhere else for my left hip surgery - there is very little "care" being provided at Penn Medicine.

Red Tape & Cutting Service
I was charged $650 by Penn Medicine for an x-ray I NEVER had. I called them, they told me to call my insurance. I called the insurance, they said the bill came from Penn Medicine. I called Penn Medicine again, was transferred back and forth ALL day, any finally called back after a few days to tell me it was in their system and I had to call doctor or x-ray person to find out what happened. I called doctor (Penn Medicine Group also), and they said the system says I had the x-ray. It's been three weeks now. Every time, I wait a long time on the phone and they rudely respond with assumption that "patient is always wrong". They then transfer me to a robot that says to leave a message. They never call back or call back and say the system says this or that. No one once looks into it to see whether system is right. All my doctors are Penn Medicine because it has bought all the hospitals, all the independent health clinics, MRI places, etc. I have to change all my doctors now, because the red tape and ridiculous charges are too much to bear. You can't talk to a human any longer, and if you are lucky to get connected they are on the other side of America, not caring what you are talking about. I refuse to pay for the services that were never done; they are actually surprise to see anyone pays attention to their bill.

I am not getting the care I need
I am not getting the care I need. I still have the same symptoms I was admitted with and i have been out for 7 weeks. No one has any answers as to why the symptoms persist. I do everything I am told to do but I feel awful. The PCP JUST SAYS go to the E.R. but I do not have emergency signs. No trouble breathing or thinking or anything like that. Just a heavy face. It is hard to know if I am getting too much medicine or too little.

The billing department is broken and senselessly victimizing
The billing department showed a complete lack of financial jurisprudence and no capacity to follow up on an action that was established by a co-worker (to contact a named person at HOP); they also failed to acknowledge of reply to a series of letters (to the correct address) and copy faxes (to the correct fax-number and confirmed electronically as received). The issue started with a late action by PennMed to collect funds for a 'wellness visit' from Medicare and HOP. The PennMed team also failed to check that my procedure would be paid even though they asked for, and have, permanently, all my insurance details including HOP! They also mis-coded the Medicare claim and the payment was denied. By the time that PennMed mailed my, it was several months more than the six-month window (at HOP) for a patent to claim! PennMed through their own coding failure and sloth made it impossible for a patient to have the bill properly settled. Medicare in fact had a further claim from PennMed for the exact same procedure and amount but with a different coding!
A contemporaneous stream of letters and copy faxes to PennMed billing were never acknowledged or responses made by them. I urged in my communications, that the billing amount be significantly reduced (after they would establish that all the facts I wrote about their mismanagement were correct). At this stage, someone at PennMed cancelled the whole amount leaving me with a zero balance, visible on my patient platform. However, PennMed is so badly managed that they allowed a series of emails and two letters that still claimed the amount was owed and today, that the account would go to collections. But with no debt and a zero balance showing on the system, this was just an intolerable insult. PennMed billing has none of the key elements of financial jurisprudence and no ability to engage and communicate with patients. Neither can it carry out an action that their own staff-member (a call to HOP) be made - it was not made. I am now in the process of requiring a written apology and have an inside-track that is trying to have this delivered at a level above their own; doubtful if successful when the billing 'machine' is broken from top to bottom! In truth I should be compensated for their failures and intimidating (auto-responder'?) emails and letters demanding a debt that does not exist; my balance shows ZERO balance! An aweful experience that has at today's date, gone on for three months!

Worst hospital I've ever been to
Still in the er. Arrived at 1pm now its 11pm. My husband is 6'8, feet hanging off the bed
Five urine bottles until the night shift came in and emptied them. . Heart rate ranging from 48 to 127 and no one comes in until the night shift, should be 70 with his pacemaker. Has any officers from this hospital ever spent the night in the er? Try it.
