The design of the shoes is beautiful; however, the leather on the left shoe, on the very front, appears to be in poor condition, with noticeable wrinkles. The right shoe is perfect. I've decided not to return them because I live in Europe, and the process would be too lengthy. It was a risk I knew I was taking when I placed the order.

Shoe sizing seems off
Shoe sizing seems off. I first got a 11 1/2 which swemed huge. I exchanged for a 11 and that seems pretty snug in the toe and still preet loose in the heel and ankle area. Rhis particular shoe.is limited in how much you can snug down the laces. Pretty dissapointed in this purchase as they look great but are unwearable.

Overwhelming chemical smell, zero customer service — avoid
I bought the Women’s Double Strap Mary Jane shoes from Origo as a Christmas gift for my partner. She’d wanted these shoes for a long time but had avoided ordering due to the high shipping cost to Australia. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a huge mistake.
When she opened the box on Christmas Day, the smell was immediate and overwhelming. An extremely strong chemical odor hit her straight away. We assumed it might be from being sealed during shipping, so we left the box open to air out. Days later, the smell hadn’t improved at all — it was so strong it would stink out an entire room. Even after briefly trying them on, the smell lingered on her feet until she had a shower. I can’t overstate how intense and unpleasant it was.
Naturally, we reached out to Origo to ask whether this smell would fade over time. No response. I followed up using the contact form on their website in case the original email hadn’t gone through. Still nothing. In the meantime, we left the shoes airing out in a spare room, hoping they’d degas. They didn’t.
After reading their international return policy, we decided to swallow the cost of return shipping just to get a refund. I emailed again, clearly stating we were willing to pay to send them back. Once again — no reply. Three emails, zero response, and absolutely no customer service.
Only after this did I dig deeper into reviews and found multiple people reporting similar issues. I wish I’d done that earlier.
At this point, I can’t recommend Origo to anyone, especially international customers. Between the overpowering chemical smell and complete lack of communication, this company feels like a total waste of money. If Origo reaches out and genuinely makes this right, I’d be happy to update this review — but until then, I’d strongly suggest avoiding them altogether.
Update:
Interestingly, on the same day this review was posted, Origo finally responded to one of my emails and offered a full refund — provided we pay the return shipping to the US. This was after three unanswered emails sent over several weeks.
While I appreciate the response and the refund offer, the timing doesn’t change the fact that there was no communication until a public review was posted, nor does it address the original issue with the overpowering chemical smell. I’m still disappointed with the overall experience, but I wanted to update the review to reflect this development, as promised.

Dear Paul,
Thank you for taking the time to update your review and for your honest feedback. We want to extend our most sincere apologies for the clear breakdown in communication you experienced before our recent reply; three unanswered emails is absolutely not the standard of service we hold ourselves to, and we completely understand your frustration.
We also take your feedback regarding the strong odor very seriously. While our shoes are made with natural materials, they are occasionally sealed too quickly after production for transit, which can trap a strong manufacturing scent in the box. We are actively working with our production team to ensure proper airing out before packaging moving forward.
We are glad our team was able to connect with you to authorize a full refund upon return. We want to ensure the remainder of this process is entirely seamless for you. Please check your email inbox, as we will be reaching out directly to ensure your return shipment tracking is noted and your refund is prioritized the moment it arrives.
Thank you again for helping us identify where we need to improve.
All the best,
Origo Shoes Team

my first pair of barefoot shoes
These were my first pair of barefoot shoes. I had decided to try out Origo because I like the style of the Retro sneakers. At first the shoes were great, loved how they felt, wore them a lot. Within two months the insole began to fall apart completely. Turns out they also sew in the insoles so that you can't just take them out and replace them! Very shortly after, a hole began to rub in the same spot on the sole of the shoe, makes sense it's a high impact spot. $110 for give or take 5-6 months worth of wear? I've had splays that were cheaper and last longer. I am wearing nearly 2 year old Vivo's as a write this! Not shoes worth buying. Check out other brands!

Dear Alan,
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your Retro sneakers did not deliver the long-term durability you expected, especially after a great initial experience with their comfort and style.
As a brand, we strive to create high-quality barefoot footwear using natural, sustainable materials, and a 5 to 6-month lifespan for the outsoles and insoles is certainly not the standard we aim for. Your point regarding the sewn-in insoles is also incredibly valuable, and we have shared this directly with our design and production teams as we continuously work to refine the construction and repairability of our models.
We would love the opportunity to look into this further for you and review your purchase history, as we do have a manufacturing warranty in place for premature wear issues. Please reach out to our customer support team directly at [email protected] with your order number and photos of the soles so we can find a proper resolution for you.
Thank you again for helping us identify where we can improve.
All the best,
Origo Shoes Team

Hi!
Thank you so much for your feedback! We extremely appreciate it.
We utilize a third-party vendor to handle all international orders shipped outside of the USA. This vendor is responsible for compliance, including calculating all duties and taxes involved in customs import, and we have alerted them to check and update any miscalculations that might have been happening so that an investigation of their system can be conducted.
All the best!

Returns are so difficult. Shop elsewhere
This company is extremely difficult to work with. They charge shipping for purchase and they also charge a restocking fee if you return. I understand that companies like to minimize shipping cost however shoes are not something that you can wear a little loose or more fitted. It either fits or it doesn't. They need to have a better return policy. I ordered a pair of shoes based off their size chart and they were too short when I got them - so the size chart was not accurate. I exchanged them for a half size up and now they are slipping off. So if I return them now I would have to pay return shipping and a restocking fee. When you add everything up I would have to pay $30 to return shoes. Not to mention it's been a month and half process so far from when I ordered the first pair of shoes. It's not even close to done yet. I still need to get approval to return and send back the exchanged shoes wait until inspection which is probably going to be another 3 weeks before I get any sort of refund back. Customer service (which is only by email) takes forever to respond.

Returns
Returns? forget it...they don't respond to emails I'm stuck with a shoe too large for me. Promised to get an exchange as my shoes were over the 30 return policy. If I bought another pair they would return the first pair. It hasn't happened yet.

Should have read the reviews
These shoes are roomier than regular shoes, but they are NOT wide toe-box shoes. They don't fit like other shoes which are made by companies that really care about the health of your feet (i.e. Xero).
I ordered my regular size, and they fit fine until I took a long walk. I developed a blister on my toe. The company would not take my shoes back, since they had been worn. So, I am stuck with shoes that I can wear rarely if at all.
