CITI-Customer Service is Foreign
Scathing Review: Citi Credit Cards Customer Service – An Exercise in Frustration and Incompetence If you're considering a Citi credit card or already stuck with one, do yourself a favor and run the other way. Citi's customer service isn't just bad—it's a masterclass in how to alienate and exhaust loyal customers until they give up in defeat. I recently had the misfortune of needing assistance, and what should have been a straightforward call turned into a 1.5-hour nightmare of incompetence, language barriers, and endless loops that left me angrier and more helpless than when I started. From the moment you dial in, you're funneled into a system designed to waste your time. Expect to be bounced around in endless transfer loops, where each "representative" seems more clueless than the last. And here's the kicker: Citi relies heavily on offshore call centers in India, where the agents can neither understand basic English nor speak it in a way that's remotely comprehensible. Heavy accents, mumbled speech, and a complete lack of familiarity with your account details make every interaction feel like shouting into the void. I tried three separate times, each call devolving into the same farce. I'd explain my issue clearly and slowly, only to be met with confusion, irrelevant questions, or promises to "transfer you to the right department"—which inevitably led to another agent with an even thicker accent who forced me to start the entire painful process over again. After 90 minutes of this torture, I finally hung up, defeated and no closer to resolution. This isn't service; it's customer abandonment by design. Countless others have experienced the same nightmare. Trustpilot and similar review sites are flooded with identical complaints: impossible-to-understand reps, endless holds and transfers, unresolved issues, and a shocking disregard for the people who actually fund their operations. One-star ratings dominate for a reason—Citi has earned its reputation as having some of the worst customer service in the banking industry. Citi, if you're reading this (and we all know your executives probably aren't), outsourcing to undertrained, hard-to-understand call centers halfway around the world while charging premium fees for your cards is a disgrace. Your customers deserve better than linguistic gymnastics and bureaucratic runarounds. Fix it—hire competent, English-proficient staff who can actually solve problems—or watch your cardholders flee to competitors who value their time and business. Avoid Citi credit cards at all costs. The rewards aren't worth the headache.
