We used Amazon One Medical’s advertised On-Demand / Pay-per-visit service for a simple hypothyroidism (Synthroid) prescription renewal and dose check. The site and flow clearly presented a $49 video visit option. Instead we were billed $304+ for what they later called a “Scheduled Video Visit.” The distinction between the cheap On-Demand rate and the expensive scheduled rate was never clearly explained when booking. After disputing the charge, we only got AI responses that walked back their own previous statements, repeated promises that “someone will call you back,” and no real resolution. Phone support has been equally unhelpful. This feels like a bait-and-switch. The low advertised price gets you in the door, then they bill you like a regular doctor visit. Extremely disappointed and will not use the service again.

My daughter and I have used one medical telemedicine for years without any issues. All of a sudden, without any changes to insurance , the NPs are charging our insurance over $700 for a follow up visit to maintain meds. They refuse to admit this is a high cost as our portion is $450. They will not adjust or admit wrong doing. If you don’t have a membership ( we have now cancelled ours for good!) it says you would pay $49 a visit. When I questioned them they said that was only an estimate. We are absolutely sickened and our college age daughter who sought them for help- now owes over $800. This has led us both to not seek medical attention anymore. Are there any drs that care about the patient or is it all a business now? Truly. I wonder.

Oh Jeff. Trying to line your pockets in an industry you have no business in. Here’s a thought. Why not help create change? Of course the building is fancy on the 23rd floor of a mall. Sure that costs a pretty penny. Parking is a nightmare. Did the ‘simple online inquiry whatever the’ which assures you that it’ll let you know if your insurance is accepted or not. It of course says it is -otherwise I wouldn’t have wasted 3 hours of my day to go- guess what? It wasn’t. Do they know the out of pocket? Nope.

Beware: One Medical adds confusion, contrary to its patient-centered philosophy. It let me book an appointment labeled as both “Remote” and “Annual Wellness Visit”—a preventive visit that’s supposed to be fully covered by insurance. Instead, I was hit with a copay because an annual wellness visit can only be billed as such if it’s in-person. When I pointed out the misleading labeling and asked for a one-time courtesy credit due to their false advertising, they refused. It’s not about the money—it’s about a confusing app and poor customer service. Patients shouldn’t have to guess what they’re actually booking. If One Medical’s value proposition is a seamless, patient-first experience that justifies paying its extra premium, this is exactly where it fell short: the app created the confusion, their team refused to recognize their mistake, and the patient paid for it.

It’s an absolute scam. Do not use this service. They will charge your card hundreds when cancelled. More than your actual appointment. Just go to urgent care in your area.
