I've been a member at One Medical for about 9 years. It has been a slow, then rapid deterioration of service ever since they were acquired by Amazon. I've finally given up after experiencing a three-week delay trying to get a prescription pre-approved for coverage by my new health plan. I'm quitting, and you should avoid ever joining.

This company has no business in health care!
DO NOT GO HERE!!! What started out as a great experience turned horrific once Amazon took over. They have NO CLUE about the Healthcare industry.

Here's my story: AT FIRST, EVERYTHING WAS GREAT!!! I left my PCP of over 20 years because I was promised excellent and attentive service - which I totally received at first. I was able to speak directly with the office, both by phone and through their patient portal. I was able to get same day or next day appointments. Most of all, I was pleased that the doctor's assistant, who they call a "health coach," was present at every appointment to take notes and allow the doctor to focus on the exam. And my health coach responded at all my inquires WITHIN MINUTES, which beat my PCP's office who took Days to reply. I thought I had found a GREAT practice.
WHERE IT ALL RAPIDLY WENT TO CRAP: My original doctor left. I met with the new doctor who was OK... not great, but I was willing to work with her. Then, out of the blue, I learned that ALL CALLS now go thru a call center. Then, with no warning, i was assigned a new "health coach." She took over 7 days to reply to inquiries made thru the patient portal. They referred me to a specialist because of abnormalities on my blood tests. Even though they made the referral, they never sent the blood work to the specialist, and it took me DAYS to get a confirmation that the test results were ever sent. The appointment at the specialist was pretty much an expensive waste of time because he did NOT know exactly why I was there.
When I tried to get a resolution I was bounced from call center to call center with no progress. The last human I spoke with was defensive and unwilling to do anything other than schedule an appointment (which they could bill Medicare for.)
Bezos and Amazon are screwing with the health of America's senior citizens. They should probably stick to delivering packages.

One Medical Profits Over Patient Care
I had been a One Medical member for over a decade, but have seen a serious decline in service over the past few years, and ultimately cancelled my membership recently over a billing error, which was the last straw. I was in for a visit a few months ago, and then was charged out of pocket for the visit. I brought up the error with One Medical and my insurance company. Despite my insurance company confirming almost 3 weeks ago that One Medical used the wrong billing code, and even AFTER the insurance company reached out to One Medical to fix this issue, One Medical still asserts 1) their bill is still correct and 2) continues to demand payment from me, despite my insurance company already confirming I owe nothing more (which they also confirmed with One Medical itself).
One Medical has also been very slow to respond and very condescending when they do respond.
I am disgusted with the practice and will never go back. It's too bad - 10 year ago, it was a great practice, but they've since prioritized profits over patient care, which is glaringly obvious from this experience.

As an individual who infrequently…
As an individual who infrequently visits medical facilities due to concerns regarding administrative billing and insurance matters, I made the decision to invest in an additional $200 annual membership fee with the aim of ensuring a streamlined and positive healthcare encounter. The initial appeal stemmed from the convenience of managing my information and scheduling appointments via the mobile application, which prompted my enrollment and initially left me satisfied with the interface.
During one visit, my physician recommended a preventative vaccine, assuring me of its coverage under my PPO insurance plan. Reassured by both the coverage and my doctor's guidance, I proceeded with the three-part vaccination. Approximately eight months subsequent to receiving the initial dose, I was surprised to receive a bill totaling $480 from OneMedical for the second dose.
This discrepancy immediately raised concerns. Upon contacting their billing department and detailing the circumstances, I was informed that the matter would undergo further review, yet subsequent follow-ups yielded no resolution and/or responses. Months later, I reiterated my concerns in writing, only to encounter prolonged delays in response.
Following multiple attempts to address the issue, a Senior Manager communicated that despite reaching out to my insurance provider, they claimed none of the vaccine doses were covered, resulting in an increased bill of $45 to $525. Contrary to this assertion, both my benefit plan and the insurance website explicitly state coverage of this vaccination at no cost to the patient.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend OneMedical's services, it has been the nightmare that's kept me from regular health visits.

Become a doctor, it will be quicker for you!
Used to love One Medical, my PCP was always attentive and took the time to check in on me, book labs etc.
Recently I can’t even get a response to a prescription renewal. 6 weeks ago (yes, 6!!) I requested an emergency refill and I’m still waiting for a response!! OM used to be seen as a concierge service but now it might be quicker, easier and cheaper to head to a CityMD etc!

billed my insurance $529 for six minute phone call with a nurse
One Medical billed my insurance $529 for a brief six minute phone conversation with a nurse ... who was clearly reading a diagnosis prompt on her screen (seemed very inexperienced).
I contacted One Medical about my experience - no response.

Money grab
Absolute scam. Excessive billings for an office visit and a follow up 5 min call over the phone. Each visit was billed for ~$800 each. Claims these are not routine visits since there was a diagnosis given. Isn't that why you go to a doctor in the first place? To get diagnosed. We tried to fight it but it's a waste of time. The system is flawed and both service providers and insurance company will just point fingers at each other, with no resolution. We will never use them again.

Concerning business practice
Concerning business practice. My insurance completely covers a preventive annual check up (no deductible, etc). I went for the annual check up and when the exam results came back, the doctor requested a call over zoom to discuss results. I accepted it and we went over some items from my blood tests. I was then charged full price for the zoom call as they did not deem it a continuation of service from my annual even though it was to go over the resulting blood tests. The call was requested by the doctor to review the results, how can they claim it was separate from annual check up and denied any attempt to discuss. I never have experienced this with any provider and if this is going to be how they do business, then they should at least notify patients that they charge for going over annual check up results. We need to call out companies with these business practices or they will continue this type of behavior. I had high hopes when I joined the membership with my family and sad to see the results.
