Costly.
Our experience with Military Fares has been less than ideal. I booked the tickets, then immediately got a call from an agent who changed the flight, which wasn't a huge deal. But during that conversation, I asked about check-in luggage. He, Sylvester, told me that my tickets did not come with check in-- which I realize that is one me. As I brainstormed solutions with him, he portrayed to me that my best/cheapest option was to pay $458 and that would allow me to check-in 2 bags at 50lbs or less. I should have just stopped then. I paid it. He also told me that it was "airline policy" that minor children have to be set with a parent, implying that I had nothing to worry about in that respect. Fast forward to when I got the confirmation, I had two separate authorization codes- it appeared as my husband's AUTH code/ticket was solo, and the other tickets were grouped just the kids and I. Concerned about seating, I called again. That agent informed me that I would have to speak with the airline. So, I called the airline, Southwest. What a blessing she was, for the entire call. So happened is Sylvester's solution to my checked baggage problem was to upgrade my husband's ticket 2 levels to CHOICE EXTRA (the most expensive). The Southwest agent informed me that I could have simply kept my basic tickets and paid 45/55$ at the airport. She, then, informed me that it is not a "policy" with the airline to sit children with a parent, but it is their intention. If it cannot be done, then the option would be for SW to move us to a different flight. That is not an option. So, we had to upgrade seats for $$$ to ensure that the kids had a seat next to a parent. When all was completed, would have saved about 200-300$ to just have booked through SW directly. Will not use Military Fares again. My recommendation is too call the airline and get the cost directly, before using MilitaryFares.
