Liking Mia Prep So Far
I am liking MiaPrep Plus so far. This is our first year homeschooling and it’s with my 8th grader, so I never tried another program yet. I did research MANY. Most other online programs look extremely outdated, boring, or worse. I looked at Connections Academy, Florida Virtual School, Acellus Academy, Time4Learning, Power Homeschool, Florida Cyber Charter Academy, Bridgeway Academy, Whitmore School, and K12. Some of these other schools may be better for different age groups. Whitmore School looked like a close second (although I am not looking to teach all subjects completely online). Pros: 1. Updated content, more subjects, and content being added. 2. Nice videos, PDFs to fill out with the video (taking notes), and written practice questions. 3. Love you can pick the subject, days and dates of course, and take out lessons or topics you don't want your child to learn or that you would like to skip (base on their former knowledge of a subject). 4. Liked that they had American Sign Language, Music, Bible Studies, and Computer Programming as a subject. 5. Liked that the student grades, assessments/quizzes, and content is recorded and that most programs can function as stand alone, or you can take out content/add your own for certain topics within a subject. I like that the program offers this type of flexibility. 6. You can also connect your MiaPrep account with MiaPrep High School to keep progress on any subjects you have taken that will qualify towards high school. 7. The MiaPrep curriculum is COPPA complaint and MiaPrep Online School "is fully accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). It permits MOHS to award diplomas and course credits that are recognized by universities, trade schools, and careers all across the world." 8. Can give students up to 1,000 gold a day for doing their work or a number of tasks like "feed the pets" or "cleaning their room". They can use the gold in their world that they can buy and create things to sell in their story, buy things for their castle, and use on games, etc. 9. Students can have a store where they create things for others to buy and can view their business progress. Cons: 1. Big con for me was the use of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals PROPAGANDA (UN2030 17 SDG's) thrown in at random in the World Geography-9th grade Social Studies. I'm sure you could find the UN Goals in other subjects or grades. I had to look through every page of the PDFs to see if UN2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were slid into the lessons. Also, having to assign a same sex couple and gender roles to people around the world, and more UN propaganda about sustainability, urban planning, carbon credits and carbon neutral garbage. I am a marine scientist and environmental planner that does regulatory permit review and inspections for our local county government on a US island chain. I, along with other concerned citizens in our county fought HARD to have the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals be REMOVED from our County's longterm land use planning decisions, due to their focus on putting as many people as possible in SMART Cities (20 minute cities) and their goal to work in coordination with the WHO to go above our own soveign governments to exert their power on people during crisis (like how they tried during COVID19). Luckily, I can opt of out these topics, which is a PLUS. 2. Too many practice assessments. If your child is doing the PDF, remove them and just have them do the online quizzes and end of unit assessments. 3. WAY too much to print, you will spend a fortune in ink, paper, printers (that will die after printing so much), and binders to keep all the paper in. I suggest that there is an option to buy full workbooks for each class to get all PDF content at once (not a bunch of loose leaf, printed paper). 4. Science Labs. For middle school and specifically high school, it would be essential that MiaPrep Online High School have a lab kits/materials you can buy for high quality lab experiments to do with the science classes. For example, for a high school biology level lab, the topic was Mammals and the lab says: "Materials: Your Thumb; Mammals have an Opposable Thumb". That is IT for the mammal labs, what?! We could be doing a dissection of a pig, a cow/sheep eye, something! 5. No live teachers or office hours for MiaPrep but MiaPlus Online Highschool has those features.
Response from Miaplaza, Inc.Sep 2, 2025
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thorough review of your experience with MiaPrep Plus. We’re glad to hear that many of the features, like flexible scheduling, subject variety, electives, and the mix of videos, PDFs, and practice, have been a good fit for your family, especially as you begin homeschooling with your 8th grader. We also appreciate your thoughtful feedback on areas where we can improve. Concerns like print volume, lab materials, and the balance of practice assessments are very helpful for us to hear. We are happy to share that our PDFs can be edited online, and we do have workbooks for many courses available, with more being released consistently! We’re also mindful that families hold different perspectives when it comes to world topics included in certain courses. That’s why we provide flexibility so parents can easily opt out of lessons or topics that don’t align with their goals or values, while keeping all topics available for others. Your input about science labs, workbooks, and interactive options is especially valuable as we continue developing MiaPrep’s content and resources. We’re committed to supporting both students and parents with tools that are flexible, engaging, and academically strong. Thank you again for sharing such detailed feedback, we’re grateful to have you as part of the MiaPrep community!
