Unsanitary and unsafe property conditions
Unacceptable property conditions. Even worse customer service. We rented a vacation home managed by Meredith Lodging on the Oregon Coast, and the experience was appalling. Upon arrival, we found pet stains, a strong urine odor, feces on the wall, and exposed carpet tack strips—a serious safety hazard, especially with a young child in the home. This wasn't a matter of personal preference. The property was filthy and unsafe. We contacted Meredith Lodging immediately. They didn't respond until the following day. Their after-hours support consisted of an overseas call center that was unable to resolve the situation. They eventually relocated us to another property, but insisted we pay for the replacement before receiving a refund for the unused nights at the original property. They also refused to refund the night we were forced to spend in those conditions, a situation that could have been avoided with competent after-hours customer service. Despite saying they have this, you get deflected to an out-of-country call center who can only tell you that someone will call you back after 9am the next day. And unbelievably, they even tried to charge us a *cleaning fee* for the filthy property they had rented to us. You can't make this stuff up. The next property was cleaner, but also had a bad knob on the stove that leaked gas. Again, safety is a low priority for these folks. Here's the thing: Problems happen. What separates a reputable company from a bad one is how they handle those problems. Meredith Lodging had every opportunity to acknowledge the situation, take responsibility, and make things right. Instead, they demonstrated a stunning lack of accountability and customer care. We weren't asking for anything unreasonable. Just a clean, safe property and fair treatment when they failed to provide one. If you're a TRAVELER, I'd strongly caution you against booking with Meredith Lodging. And if you're a property OWNER considering hiring them to manage your investment, I'd think twice. If this is how they maintain properties, handle guest safety concerns, and treat paying customers, I'd have serious questions about entrusting them with my home. A company's reputation isn't built when everything goes right. It's built by how they respond when things go wrong. Meredith Lodging failed spectacularly.
