Misdiagnosis by MeMD
The physician I spoke with stated he was sure that I did not have a sinus infection -- rather diagnosed me with chronic rhinitis. His opinion was based on the fact that I had needed antibiotics for sinus symptoms multiple times in the past 24 months. I went to see an ENT doctor the next day - he diagnosed me with severe exacerbation of chronic sinusitis after completing an exam and xrays and now I'm on a 21 day course of antibiotics. Although MEMD is helpful for some conditions, the ENT doctor I met with in person felt that my condition would have improved much sooner had I had a full exam and Xrays at the beginning of symptoms last year.. He also stated that a sinus infection can be quite serious and that to mistake it for chronic rhinitis would have been dangerous. I think it would have been better if the MeMD doctor had just stated he was unable to make a diagnosis rather than stating so certainly that it was not an infection. I still believe MeMD is good for some minor conditions but have learned from this experience!
