Short Term Disability for Family Planning
Unfortunately I made the error when selecting insurance with my employer and did not select the optional short term disability insurance option. My husband and I wanted to start trying to start a family and one of the qualifications for my employer is to have short term disability insurance prior to becoming pregnant in order to qualify for benefits. Since I missed the enrollment period with my current employer we began our search elsewhere for a policy that would offer short term disability for pregnancy. We came upon Breeze and found a policy that would cover me after giving birth. Although the short term disability does not cover pregnancy as most insurance companies, they offer something called the parental leave rider that can be added onto a short term disability policy. This will allow me to stay at home with my newborn and pay out half of the disability insurance per week. This was the ONLY policy I found out there that offered this benefit. The customer service ladies at Breeze were very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. The application was extremely easy to fill out. The turn around from the insurance company Assurity was a bit lengthy but we were not in a rush. Overall we are very pleased with Breeze and would recommend to anyone, especially woman thinking about starting a family, to apply for short term disability.
