For my first cycle, I signed up with MedSchoolCoach to help me with my secondaries and interview prep and was genuinely amazed on how much my written and verbal responses improved spending time with the amazing advisors. During this process, I met Dr. Blair Nelson which gave me some amazing insight into how to improve personally based on my background and not just general comments. I even was able to follow up with him after my interview and kept him updated throughout the waitlist process. Unfortunately, after not getting in on my first cycle, Dr. Nelson was there to give me some advice and lay a roadmap out for me this cycle to hopefully matriculate next fall. I was uncertain about some areas such as retaking the MCATs or the number of clinical hours but Dr. Nelson has tons of experience and knew what was best and if I had enough and would stand out. Thus, I am thrilled to have Dr. Nelson advise me this cycle and it really showed improvements to my application as I have already gotten an interview request early on in the cycle. Dr. Nelson also is compassionate for the students he advises and does this out of the passion to help train the next generation of physicians. I really appreciated how thorough Dr. Taniuchi was in the beginning reviewing my application, as well as the questions that he asked that simulated real interviews very well. He provided me with excellent advice going forward in elaborating on my research experiences and providing more patient stories to show rather than tell.

Having not had a formal medical school interview experience before, I could feel that I was extremely nervous for my first mock interview. Luckily, my interviewer, who had been my advisor for the other parts of my application, was gracious enough to ease me into the experience. She came prepared with questions that I could encounter during a real interview and allowed me to choose whether to go through with an uninterrupted 30 minute experience or give feedback after individual questions. I chose to get the full experience, uninterrupted, and I don't regret it because the patience and attentiveness she showed really helped me fall into my role not just as an interviewee but as someone just having a conversation. At the end of the session, my interviewer gave amazingly constructive feedback and helped pinpoint my weaknesses and strengths. In all, I feel like the combination of MedSchoolCoach's written interview guide and the mock interviews have better prepared me to show off my best side during my real interviews.

Great mock interview (MMI) with Dr. Harvey Katzen! This practice helped me become more confident talking through difficult ethical decisions and helped me understand what interviewers are looking for. In the debrief, Dr. Katzen gave great advice about how to answer each type of question and gave me pointers on how to generally approach MMI questions. I feel much more prepared and am so grateful for the support and expertise of advisors like Dr. Katzen!
