Our daughter is an existing BSDO path and wanted to give MD a shot and decided it would be good to get a professional look at her essays. She had still not given the MCAT (back in Nov 2025) for the 2026-27 cycle. Logic said we should wait till we had a rough feel for her MCAT score before we start any package. But MedSchoolCoach convinced us that if we don't buy their package immediately we would loose out on Director help. So we joined. Unfortunately her MCAT score was not competent enough so she has decided to continue with her DO program. Her personal statement and activities were well crafted by itself where the director himself said "not seen such a good essay". We got limited feedback like combining paragraphs or changing a word here or there. By then she had given few FL's with sub 500 score. She kept them informed all along, and decided to go with the DO program in hand. We had interviews, secondaries etc in the package we no longer needed. Being a reputable company, we were hopeful for at least a partial refund since we did not need their services in some areas (and even what we got was not earth shattering since she already had good essays). BUT NO! They make you go in circles and circles and not stick with their promises. DO NOT USE! Their sales team is out to get gullible people. Everything was stated up front on where we were. Very disappointing!

TERRIBLE MCAT TUTORING- DO NOT USE
I used the 10 hour MCAT tutoring and the service were terrible. There was nothing useful I learned and I could have used that time to study on my own than waste it on an expensive, useless service

Minimal and outdated advice…
I signed up for the platinum residency advising package because I wanted to get an early start on the whole match process to put myself in the best position possible for more competitive programs but my experience has been so bad and not helpful.
One of the big reasons I went with this company was because they advertise their high match rate (like >97%). I was super clear that I’m starting early because I wanted to target more competitive programs, but it felt like my advisor kept pushing me toward less competitive programs and even specialties suggesting I also include family medicine at one point. It makes me wonder if their match rate is real and if it is really that good, is that because they’re steering people into easier programs and specialties.
Overall, it was hard to get in touch with my advisor and when I finally got feedback on my PS, it was basically just tiny grammar edits that any online grammar check or AI could have caught and fixed. I thought the goal would be more to really understand my story and help me redo it into something stronger that really conveyed a connection. I switched advisors thinking the first was just a bad match, but the second one wasn’t much better. Both advisors were older with years and years of doing this and also supposedly had “admissions experience,” but I didn’t get the sense that experience was recent. I felt like their advice was outdated and kind of out of touch like they were giving advice based on how things were and not how they are now.
For how expensive the platinum package is, I was expecting someone who was more dedicated to helping me present myself well, but instead I’ve gotten surface‑level edits, inconsistent communication, and advice that doesn’t match my goals. I asked for a refund or at least a partial refund for the services I haven’t used yet since I didn’t want to continue with them, and I was referred to someone who told me they don’t offer refunds but I could “transfer” the rest of my package to someone else if someone wanted to buy it from me. I wouldn’t recommend this company so selling my leftover package to another person feels wrong. Overall, very dissatisfied and don’t recommend

Hi Nathan,
My name is Jennifer Urso, and I am the Vice President of Services at MedSchoolCoach. I’m very sorry to hear that you feel dissatisfied with your experience, as the level of support you described does not align with the standard we strive to provide our students.
That said, I would appreciate the opportunity to look into your concerns directly. Unfortunately, based on the information provided in this review, I have not been able to locate your account in our system. We also have not had any students named Nathan enrolled in our Residency advising program recently, nor have we had any residency students named Nathan request a refund within the last year.
If you are comfortable doing so, please email me directly ([email protected]) with your last name and the email address associated with your account so I can personally review your experience, advisor interactions, communication history, and package details in full.
I also want to clarify that our advisors are never instructed to steer students toward “easier” specialties or programs simply to preserve match statistics. Our role is to provide strategic guidance based on a student’s overall profile, goals, competitiveness, and risk tolerance while still supporting aspirational applications where appropriate.
We take concerns regarding communication quality, advising strategy, and written feedback very seriously, and I would genuinely welcome the opportunity to investigate this further and determine whether there was a disconnect in expectations or service delivery.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Urso

lease Read Before Wasting $8,000 – Genuine Review from a Canadian Applicant
I hope this is seen because the other reviews seem ingenuine and very basic. I’m going to give detailed reasons as to why this service is NOT GOOD. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY as you can get 3x better service for 1/4 of the price.
Let’s start with my stats:
MCAT: 514
GPA: 4.0
Tons of clinical, volunteer, and leadership experience (have been told multiple times my ECs are strong)
CASPer: 4th quartile
I submitted everything before August 2024 for MD and October 2024 for DO.
I’m a Canadian applicant, so I know I'm already at a disadvantage, but not getting a single DO interview is a huge red flag. PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU WANT PROOF and I’ll gladly share documentation and my personal experience. Anything to help students avoid losing $8,000 to this scam.
I did have 2 friends who got into med school through this service, but even they said the money wasn’t worth it as you can get the same or better support for much cheaper.
Why This Service Is Not Worth It:
1. Writing Advisors Have No Clue What They’re Doing
They assign a writing advisor to edit your essays and a physician advisor for general guidance. Spoiler: both were pretty bad and the system feels super disjointed. The writing advisors clearly have no background in medicine, they’re just English editors, which makes no sense. You’re applying to med school, and they’re editing your personal statement without any idea of what matters in an app. Huge red flag.
The edits were basic, and even after waiting 2 days for turnaround, it was just surface-level grammar stuff. My friends who are med students put way more effort into helping me than the people I paid. I still had grammar errors after their final drafts — I had to go back and fix them myself.
Also, I was the one pointing out what was missing. At one point I literally said, "We’re missing this in the conclusion," and the advisor was like, “Oh yeah, let’s add that.” Like... why am I paying $8K to be the one catching stuff? I had two different writing advisors, both of them equally useless. To cut words, they’d just chop off sentences without caring about grammar or flow. It was like watching someone destroy my writing without any attention to quality. For a “premium” service, this was a joke.
2. Physician Advisors Provide Nothing Special
I was hoping the physician advisor would at least help with school selection or give some insight but they didn’t. Everything I heard from them I could’ve found on Reddit or SDN for free.
I had two different physician advisors as I had to switch from my original one as he was so bad. I still have the draft of the original personal statement I made with my first advisor and its so bad its laughable. I will never forget him saying that it was "pitch perfect." One was terrible, the other was just okay. And they gave conflicting advice about my personal statement, which made me even more confused. Again, what am I paying for?
3. Customer Service Is a Mess
I asked for a refund and had to follow up FIVE times just to get a response from Jennifer Urso, the VP. She canceled on me multiple times and didn’t show up to one of our calls — super unprofessional. When we finally talked, she didn’t even apologize for ghosting me until I brought it up.
I work full-time, so it was really frustrating to make time for a call that she didn’t bother showing up to. On top of that, when I gave feedback about the personal statement process, Renee Marinelli (another one of their leads) told me that the personal statement shouldn’t answer “Why medicine” — which is literally the point of the prompt. That was a clear attempt at gaslighting to save face, and it just made the situation worse.
4. Interview Prep Was a Waste of Time
I paid for interview prep but didn’t even get to use it properly. I had one interview — in Canada — and the prep I got was for U.S.-style interviews, which was totally different. It didn’t help at all. Again, you’re better off asking a med student or doing mock interviews with friends.
If you're considering this service, PLEASE do not. This review does not even allow me to put an email address.
I will share everything — receipts, examples, writing drafts — whatever you need.

Hi Aditya,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. Again, I am sorry to hear your experience didn’t meet expectations and want you to know we take your concerns seriously.
While your initial advisor match wasn’t ideal (as we previously discussed) our team acted quickly to make a reassignment and ensure better alignment. We appreciate the time you invested working on critical components of your application, and we understand how disappointing the outcome must have been.
We remain committed to your success and are here to support you moving forward. Our strong recommendation remains to expand your DO school list more broadly, particularly since only three were included in your last application cycle. Doing so may meaningfully increase your chances of receiving interview invitations.
Thank you again for your honesty—we’re here to help however we can.

Disappointing advising and an unfulfilled refund promise
My experience with this medical school coaching program was disappointing. The advisors’ qualifications did not meet my expectations for the service I was paying for.
Before paying, I was told that my payment would be fully refundable. However, I did not receive a refund for my first installment. This discrepancy between what I was told and my experience undermined my confidence in the program.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this program. Prospective students should verify advisors’ credentials and obtain the refund terms in writing before making any payment.

I paid this company $4,500 for help…
I paid this company $4,500 for help with my medical school application and almost $1,000 for MCAT prep tutoring. After a couple of the tutoring sessions, I said I wanted to cancel the rest. The medical school application advisor spoke with me on the phone for an initial intake session and it was nice. But, after that day the only contact she had was to return the essays I would send her for editing, just a hair before the 72-hours deadline. So essentially I paid around $5,000 just to have somebody correct my sentence structure on a handful of short essays. No great insight was offered by this company, no tailor-made plan to help me better advance myself, not even a second phone call did my thousands of dollars get me...This is not how this company advertises itself. It is pretty clear that they painstakingly curate their online reviews in order to bluff students into paying them their ludicrous fees.

I would not hire this company again
I would not hire this company again. My son was a Canadian applying to US medical schools and he only needed help with essays. He did not get even one interview out of 10 schools he applied to. Please do not hire this company at all. I wasted my $10,000.
