I will start this review that Martie was recommended to me by a friend and I was excited to order some discounted protien snacks the shopping experience was easy but after that the experience quickly went downhill.... my order was delayed from even shipping for over a week. I reached out to customer service wich did respond promptly and my order was prepared for shipping, however at this point half my order was then refunded (the half i really wanted and why I was ordering in the first place) because they oversold items that were out of stock. So they get 2 stars, customer service was decent the rest of the experience was fairly poor. I highly recommend shopping elsewhere to save yourself the potential headache.

Best before dates in the past
I ordered items that had advertised best before dates that were several months out. When they arrived, three items had expired. Apparently the "September" expiration date was actually just a "we reckon it will be okay" expiration date, two months later than the real one. And the bread was stale.
So, I reached out to ask for a refund on the stale bread, and they refused it.
I also agree with the other review that the amount of single-use plastic in the packaging was appalling and so goes against their claims of sustainability.
My first, and so - obviously - last experience.

Gavin, we're sorry your first Martie experience missed the mark. While some of the products in your order were sold with an extended best-by date as noted on the product page, we never want concerns about a product to get in the way of enjoying your order. We're glad we were able to resolve this with you directly, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, including your thoughts on our packaging.

I used to be a fan
I used to be a fan, but their shipping keeps getting worse, and when I reached out to them to cancel an order because it hadn't shipped they completely ignored my request. When I reached out again they apologized and then shipped the order even though I had told them I couldn't use it I would be out of town. Proceed with caution

Liz, we're truly sorry we let you down. We understand how frustrating it is when a shipping delay throws off your plans and leaves you feeling unheard. That's not the experience we want anyone to have. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We hope we'll have the opportunity to earn back your trust.

They do not ship on time. This has been very disappointing.
I used to absolutely love ordering from Martie LLC, however, this year it has not been a very good experience. One order I received instead of giving me a box, they were just 12 protein bars scattered throughout the large box of items. Additionally, it seems that lately all of my orders are far later than they ever are advertised to be, as they State they will ship within one to two business days. However, the reality is that they ship possibly within a week. I have yet to receive an order that has been within an acceptable time frame. However, I decided to try a third time, just to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, this will be my last order with them until some other future date when hopefully they will get their logistics worked out, their staffing up to par, and or their client relations stepped up. They definitely need to adjust their FAQs and their shipping information on their mobile app and on the website as shipping within 2 days is definitely not how things go. They are very responsive with generic email replies, always stating that they are just so busy. They're trying so hard but they're just so overwhelmed and they just have so many orders, which doesn't do anything for me except making me feel diminished as a consumer because it may have been 5 to 8 days since my order was placed. If you have too many orders, you need more staff. It's so disappointing. At this juncture, even though I have referred to my friends and family to this company in the past, I will no longer be doing so as it is an embarrassment because items do not ship out as promised and in cases, such as my own, when I purchase things for a travel. To take to my parents home in another state, I am left with the disappointment of not being able to take the items that I purchased for them because I must keep my travel plans despite the order not being shipped as promised.

Prop 65 lead ingestion warning not included in the product listing
I requested a refund for cassava chips b/c I discovered that they carried a Cal. Prop. 65 warning against lead, which warning was not noted in the product listing so I was unaware of it when I placed my order. After seeing the warning stickers on the packages when I received the order, I researched the issue and found that Consumer Reports rated the product more than 600% above the safe level for lead, and recommended that the chips be eaten only 1 serving/week. When I emailed Martie about the issue, my request for a refund was initially politely referred to their claims dept. But the claims dept relied on a lie to reject my claim, stating that the Prop 65 warning was noted in the listing. It absolutely was not included in the listing and is still not included in the listing at the time of this initial review. The $28 or so that I am out is nothing, but I learned that this company is not trustworthy, which is an important lesson. ADDENDUM to review: Although Martie has now sent me a refund, that doesn't completely rectify the situation, which was that, when I initiated a refund claim about the Prop 65 lead issue, Martie's team misrepresented that their web-site indicated a Prop 65 lead warning with the product listing, which was absolutely not the case. I (and my husband, who double-checked the web-site product listing at the time that I initiated my refund claim) stand by my complaint about the lack of a Prop 65 lead warning, on the web-site listing at the time I placed the order and later, when I initiated the refund claim. Martie has sent me a polite email apology, but has denied their omission of an on-line Prop 65 warning. While I recognize that Martie's business model serves a good purpose in that Martie sells overstock goods that might otherwise be disposed of by grocers as surplus waste, I still believe that they should be very, very careful about foods that carry a Prop 65 warning. Only a few of the 8 bags of chips that I purchased carried a sticker with the Prop 65 warning. I am grateful that some of them did and I was able to research the lead issue and act accordingly. I have raised my rating from 1 star to 2 stars, based on the refund and apology they have sent.

Thank you for sharing this. We understand how concerning it must have been to receive your order and discover the Prop 65 warning on the packaging. Our website includes a Prop 65 disclosure on our product pages. We're sorry to hear that this experience left you feeling frustrated and caused you to lose trust in us. We care deeply about our customers' experiences and take feedback like yours seriously. We've reached out directly and hope to earn back your trust.

Discounts are all over the map, and most prices aren’t deals.
Compared to my other shopping sources, I broke even or paid more. Candles, health/beauty, perfumes I had to pass by—even with discounts they were quite expensive, and are steeply marked up items to begin with. The shipping was slower than my other sources; I was hit with a shipping surcharge at checkout, though my cart qualified for “free shipping.” 3 items (momofuku noodles) were expired (by over a month), one item was missing. I received a refund for the missing item only. I got a good price on my favorite tomatoes but was limited to 3 cans. Remaining foods were within a month, or two, of expiration. I’m not a fan.
With all the choices I have for pantry items and health/beauty, adding a Martie haul makes little sense. The shipping surcharge was unique to my shopping universe and damaged trust. In the write-up I read, the momofuku noodles were buzzy, and seem to have been offered for quite some time, despite Martie’s weekly, ever-changing offerings. There’s a real discount, but those were my expired items and the product is indeed different from what’s available in stores. Martie warns this may apply. Different number in pack, different ounces of product, more calories and fat per serving.
I think if Martie had responded to issues with good faith, I’d keep an eye on future offerings, but in the first outing they didn’t show interest. Maybe when they launched they had better prices and service. I received CS that couldn’t compete with Amazon. I’m bummed to say that. I’d love to shed my Amazon relationship, and have cut back a lot, but I receive responsive, real-human help from them when it’s needed. Same with my other health food and warehouse sources. They are good options, with faster shipping, competitive pricing (in these v tough times), no surcharges, and *fresher foods*.

Wrong product
After ordering I saw that there was a wrong product in my basket. Despite 3 emails they proceeded to ship me the wrong product and charged me for it. Not buying from them again

Yuri, we're so sorry for the experience and the frustration it caused. This is definitely not how we want things to go and we've already reached out to make it right. We'd love the chance to turn this around for you.

I was a frequent customer of Marie’s… too many expired products
I was a frequent customer of Marie’s website, ordering every week or two and spending thousands of dollars over time. I enjoy trying new products, unknown brands, which initially kept me coming back.
Because I purchase so often, I occasionally received items that didn’t suit me—but I always considered that my own responsibility. When there were legitimate issues, like a broken item, customer service did provide refunds, which I appreciated.
However, I began noticing recurring problems with food items. On several occasions, products seemed improperly stored despite having valid expiration dates. This became a pattern, not a one-time issue.
The final incident that made me stop shopping there involved a bottle of olive oil. Although the expiration date was fine, it had a strong, fishy taste and was clearly spoiled. It ruined an entire salad I had prepared for dinner. While the item itself was only $9, the situation was frustrating and inconvenient.
I contacted customer service, asking to return the bottle, but my return request was denied—twice. I was told it was simply a matter of personal taste, which I strongly disagree with. I know what olive oil should taste like, and this product was not acceptable.
After spending some time trying to resolve the issue, I asked to be removed from their mailing list and stated that they had lost a loyal customer. The response I received was simply: “You are off the list.”
That response, more than anything, reflects how this company treats its customers. Refusing to stand behind a clearly defective product—especially for a $9 —comes across as short-sighted and dismissive.
While I did have some positive experiences in the past, the repeated issues with food quality and the poor handling of this situation ultimately outweighed them. Customer service should be better.
