Pulled the rug out from under me after only 2 weeks
This review is regarding ChicagoServers.org, the rebrand of MadCityServers. I purchased my service through ChicagoServers.org. I was with ChicagoServers.org for about 2 weeks before they completely pulled the rug out from under me. They first sent an email saying their Los Angeles and Miami locations were going to be discontinued. Fair enough, so I started preparing to migrate my data. Then the next day they sent another email saying they had negotiated with ReliableSite and were now able to keep both locations online. Based on that update, I stopped the migration because, according to their own email, there was no longer a reason to move. Then August 17 rolls around and I suddenly can't access my server. I check the billing panel and find out the server has been cancelled/terminated. The panel had shown the service expiring on August 18, yet it was gone on August 17. There was no email saying the negotiations had fallen through again. There was no warning that my server was about to be terminated. There was no last-minute notice telling me to get my data off. The last communication I received from them literally said the Los Angeles servers were staying online. All of my data on the server ended up being unrecoverable. What made the situation even worse was their support response. When I opened a ticket and explained what happened, they responded: "Server was terminated by reliable site. We can not restore data. You had a lot of time to move your data and not waiting to the day before or the daily of." They completely ignored the fact that I stopped migrating because of their own email saying the service was no longer being discontinued and I would share screenshots on this review if I could, and instead decided to blame me for not moving my data sooner. I responded to that support reply explaining this again, and shortly afterward my entire account was closed without any explanation. I understand that problems with upstream providers can happen and sometimes things are outside of a host's control. What isn't acceptable is telling customers that a shutdown has been avoided, giving no further warning when that changes, terminating a server before the date shown in the billing panel, losing the customer's data, blaming the customer for believing your own email, and then closing their account after they respond to support. After this experience, I would not trust ChicagoServers.org, or any other brand name they operate under, with shit. I cannot recommend them.
