First ride was sketchy, second was great.
This was our first flight into JFK so meeting our driver and heading into the city at night were already a bit stressful. Our driver was waiting for us but it was hard to understand his directions to the black SUV. The trip was going smoothly though he did tend to pick up his phone for GPS guidance rather than using the vehicle's which I personally find bothersome as it's my safety at risk. Then, just as we turned the last corner onto our hotel's street, we were pulled over by an unmarked car. Two plainclothes officers (once we saw their badges) came up along each side with their weapons out and I've got to say it was scary. The driver received a ticket for having an ear bud in which put his passengers at risk - too bad the cop didn't know about the distracted driving! As we were parked directly across the street from our hotel, the cops let us get out of the vehicle, grab our bags, and scoot. The pick up and ride back to the airport was a totally better experience! The driver was a few minutes early, the traffic was light, and we arrived at JFK early enough to go sit and have breakfast before our flight. This was 5-star service, however, getting stopped by NYC cops in the dark with their weapons out dropped the rating.
