Best research program for school level.

This program is an excellent opportunity to get your foot in the door and get familiarized with research---especially for high school students interested in participating in the program where it might be difficult to get this experience elsewhere. This exposure allows one to better get ahead with research experience before entering university. The research program has a lot of structure, which is especially beneficial because of great organization and work that is guided.

I think Lumiere Education is doing amazing in terms of giving students the chance to dive deeper in their topic or area of interest through research. I really love and appreciate the fact that Lumiere Education provides students with up to full financial aid to make this happen. I think this is very important for students who could not otherwise engage in a research experince as a high schooler. I also want to emphasize how supportive and amazing my mentor was. She was really patient with me throughout the program and did not just guide me superficially, but with great attention and time. I am sincerely thankful to Lumiere Education for giving me these invaluable opportunities. Thank you!

They are really adaptable to your experience and prior knowledge. My mentor pairing was excellent, and I was able to keep up with the project even when setbacks arose. I've learnt many great things and valuable skills, such as: LaTeX, referencing, writing a paper... And I'll almost ceirtanly take advantage of the technical affinity I've acquired.

My experience at Lumiere was really incredible. As a high school student with no experience in research beforehand, I came into this with little confidence in my research and professional writing skills. However, as the program went on and I chose the topic that I was very interested in, I got matched with a mentor who was very compatible with me and my topic, which was sustainable biology, to be general. They helped me throughout every step of the way, from planning the research question to proofreading the final draft. Additionally, the staff was very responsive in emails, responding within 12 hours. There was also a readily available writing coach, which was pretty useful as well.

My experience at Lumiere was incredible! I had the opportunity to conduct research independently while also receiving constructive feedback from an expert mentor and gaining more knowledge on my chosen topic through insightful discussions. I also had the chance to improve my writing skills and refine my paper with additional workshops that were offered. The quality of the program was high since my program manager and the rest of the directors were willing to help with any minor inquiry and concern that came up. I would most definitely recommend the Independent Research Program to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge on a topic of their choice and developing research and communication skills.

I became a better thinker, a better debater. Lumiere changed how I think. In my mentor meetings, I was always pushed to “define, define, define.” Every idea needed a reason behind it. If you can’t define “the sky is blue” with a reasonable reason, then the sky can also be green if someone else can support it with facts. That’s what Lumiere does to you. It pushes you to go deeper, to question more, to actually understand. One of my favourite parts? The Writing Portal. It’s a lifesaver when it comes to getting thoughtful, constructive feedback on your paper. Plus, the writing workshops break everything down so clearly that research starts to feel less intimidating and way more exciting. And the mentors? Truly supportive. They don’t guide you. They’re genuinely invested in helping you produce your best possible work. If you’re interested in research but don’t feel “ready,” that’s fine. I wasn’t either. You learn by doing. My experience with Lumiere has been truly inspiring, and I genuinely enjoyed every session as each one helped me understand complex ideas in a clear, engaging, and meaningful way. The program pushed me to think more deeply, ask better questions, and become more confident in expressing my thoughts. I’m especially grateful for my mentor, whose guidance was patient, insightful, and incredibly encouraging—they made learning feel exciting and personal rather than overwhelming. The program manager was also very supportive and ensured everything ran smoothly, creating a comfortable and well-structured environment throughout the journey. Overall, this experience has been both enriching and motivating, helping me grow not only academically but also in my curiosity and approach to learning.
