Little Spoon does NOT care about your children
I originally decided to try Little Spoon because my daughter is a very picky eater, and I was hoping their meals might give us some new options. When our first shipment arrived, I tried several different meals with her, but unfortunately, she wouldn’t eat them. At that point, I considered it a lost cause. I accepted that the roughly $40 I spent on the first order was gone. It was a bummer, but at least we tried it, and I was prepared to move on. Then, a little while later, I discovered that I had been charged $76.90 for a second shipment that I did not intend or knowingly authorize. And to make matters worse, that $76.90 was for EIGHT meals. Eight tiny meals. I immediately contacted Little Spoon to explain the situation and request my money back. That’s when this experience became even more frustrating. There is no customer service phone number where you can simply call and speak to a representative about a billing problem. Instead, I had to communicate through email/text and was shifted between multiple representatives — Kella A., then Diane N., and finally a Customer Care Supervisor, Melanie C. Despite repeatedly explaining my situation, I essentially received the same answer: my options were store credit or a partial refund. I was eventually offered 50% of my $76.90 back — $38.45 — while Little Spoon kept the rest. Why would I want $76.90 in store credit for food my child already refused to eat? I am clearly an unsatisfied customer. Store credit does absolutely nothing for me. What makes this especially upsetting is that I explained that I am currently a student in a master’s program and do not work. $76.90 might not seem like much money to a company, but it is a LOT of money to me. That is grocery money. That is money I can use to feed my child. Having nearly $77 unexpectedly taken from my account is financially devastating when money is already tight. Little Spoon told me they sent a reminder email before the next order and that I had passed their cutoff period. But regardless of the fine print or cutoff policy, I contacted them asking for help as soon as I realized what happened. Instead of showing compassion or making an exception, I was repeatedly given the same two options. The entire experience left me feeling like the subscription model is designed to benefit from parents forgetting to cancel in time. You try the food, your child may not even like it, and suddenly another much larger charge hits your account. In my case, my first order was around $40, and then the next charge was $76.90 for only eight meals. I understand that businesses have policies. But there is also something called customer service. When a parent is telling you that an unexpected $76.90 charge has affected their ability to buy groceries for their child, repeating “store credit or 50% refund” over and over does not feel like customer care. I went into this wanting to find something convenient and nutritious that my picky daughter might actually enjoy. Instead, I walked away angry, financially stressed, and completely disappointed in a company that markets itself toward parents and children. I would never order from Little Spoon again, and based on the way my situation was handled, I cannot recommend them to other parents. If you decide to try them, pay VERY close attention to the subscription, upcoming-order emails, cutoff dates, and charges to your account. For a company centered around feeding children and making parents’ lives easier, this experience did the exact opposite for my family. UPDATE: Resolving my dispute was unnecessarily stressful and frustrating. Customer service representatives Kella A., Diane N., and Melanie C. repeatedly provided the same responses without offering a meaningful resolution. While I understand they may have been following company policy, the experience left me feeling unheard. After I shared a review about my experience, Lola reached out and completely changed my impression of the situation. She was professional, empathetic, and solution-focused. She addressed my concerns promptly, resolved the issue without unnecessary back-and-forth, and made me feel genuinely heard. I greatly appreciate her approach and the level of customer service she provided. I only wish the situation had never reached that point in the first place.
