My husband broke his ankle in 2025 Surgery and antibiotics, Liberty has still not paid the bill aside from his $1000 deductible which we paid. They owe providers over 10K. Now it has gone into collections. Stay far away from this healthshare company.
Tria orthopedic Center in Minneapolis is owed $$. Park Nicollet Health Services is owed $$$

Devasting News
I just got off the phone with Liberty HealthShare. I don't normally complain, but this is important for others to be aware of. My wife and I had been with LHS for about 6 or 7 years. I was just told that the medical bills we were waiting to be paid for the birth of our son back in June of 2025 were ineligible for sharing. The reason is that we cancelled our HealthShare at the end of June because my employment put us on their employee benefits plan at that time, and Liberty Healthshare therefore was no longer needed. The expenses were ineligible because LHS can decline any expenses that were incurred up to 30 days prior to cancellation. LHS purports to be a Christian Faith Based organization. I consider this nothing more than a swindle, using a loop hole to get out of sharing an expense. The Christian Faith Based thing to do would have been to give us the opportunity to pay one more month in order to make sure the expenses would be eligible for sharing. Shame on Liberty Health Share to do this to a young family and their first baby. I would give this review zero stars if I could.

Thank you for sharing your concerns and for your years of membership with Liberty HealthShare.
Eligibility for sharing is determined by the Sharing Guidelines. Under the Guidelines, expenses incurred or submitted within one month of a member’s change in active status are not eligible for sharing, except in limited circumstances involving acute accident, injury, or illness.
Members expecting bills to be submitted may keep their membership active until those expenses meet the applicable eligibility requirements. If you need any additional clarification or assistance, please contact us at 855-585-4237.

Wouldn’t pay my hospital bill
I would rate it less than one if I could. It worked just fine for routine appointments and such but as soon as we had a large medical bill (my husband tore his Achilles) we had major issues. They said they couldn’t pay it until all the bills in front of our’s were paid. The hospital was threatening to send us to collections and all Liberty would do is apologize and tell me my options were to pay the bill myself and wait for reimbursement. What?! We ended up talking the hospital down to $14,000 and paying it ourselves. Liberty contacted me three years later and told me they were ready to pay the bill!! Three years!!!! Absolutely ridiculous!! I would absolutely deter anyone from using Liberty!!

This is a rip off
Not into writing reviews but this pure totally worthless. My wife had a slip and fall at the bank costing about 7k in medical expenses and not one penny is shareable. Everything is reprocessed, they tell us her dislocated shoulder should have only cost $1267.00 not $4896.00 that the hospital wanted charge. The list goes on and on, of half a dozen items submitted they systemically denied everything. Liberty Healthshares is totally worthless don't buy into the illusion it's trash.

Buyer beware, newer policies have ruined a good thing.
I wish I could give them 0 stars. The only thing people are correct about is that the customer service reps are nice on the phone.
I was a member for over 5 years until the end of 2024, and originally joined because they were friendly to more holistic care and choosing things like thermography over mammography. And it was a little lower cost than traditional health care (but you do lose all tax benefits and your HSA so there are trade offs). Every year the coverage has become less and less - like limited reimbursement for chiropractic and acupuncture. And they like to label everything "holistic" care and cap it at $1000 total shareable for the year. Which is an incredibly low amount if it was holistic/alternative care.
And monthly dues have gone up to comparable rates to traditional health insurance, so there's no longer any financial benefit.
In April 2024 the major changes came to only reimburse at "fair and reasonable" rates no matter what you paid out of pocket, has meant that the out of pocket expenses are SIGNIFICANTLY increased. Because those lower rates are also what contributed to your unshared "deductible", making that unshared upfront cost drastically more.
They keep saying to allow the doctors to bill, but many don't take any insurance or at least not Liberty, so that's not an option. Also, the routine tests I've had done that do bill Liberty directly, Liberty is reimbursing more than the "cash patient" price I was quoted! So they won't reimburse my actual paid rate, but when I don't pay as a cash patient and they bill Liberty, Liberty reimburses them more! But as two of my doctors don't take any insurance means they also don't charge "fair and reasonable" rates. Essentially Liberty is reimbursing me for a 10 minute appointment vs the hour I actually had with the doctor.
They also deny nearly everything at first, requiring hours of phone calls and appeals for everything. It's always been that way, but this year is especially bad with denials and slow processing and very small amount being "eligible" for reimbursement. They also ask for lot of information that multiple doctors offices have said they've never had a patient need. I think that's part of the new denial process to keep asking for more details per bill hoping members will give up. The number of hours I've spend on the phone per bill it would have been more cost effect to just pay it myself. The amount of frustration and time is just not worth the time.
The one positive is the people that answer the phone are very nice, but all they can do is listen try to understand the details, and send bills back for reprocessing. Which zero of those send backs have resulted in a satisfactory reprocessing since April. However, posting a negative yelp review recently finally got their attention and I received an email saying my case was now being personally handled by a team. Some of my bills were finally resolved. But you should not have to go through what I went through to get basic customer service. Everyone should be treated the same, all with good service.
I don't know when but they also changed the fine print to say that they will only reimburse for bills submitted more than 2 months before cancelling. So at the end of 2024 I paid nearly $900 in dues for November and December, but they will not reimburse a $177 doctors appointment that happened in October but wasn't billed to me until early November which I then submitted to Liberty the day I received it. Talk about nickel and diming a long time member and repeatedly pointing to the letter of the law rather than understanding the real world of health care, all while claiming to protect their members interest. Over all I paid thousands of dollars more into Liberty than I took out. I was a great source of revenue for them and this leaves an ever worse taste in my mouth after a difficult year.
Do yourself a favor and choose another healthcare solution! Tax credits through state insurance markets are also an option for low cost health insurance and an HSA that truly givings you control over your health care dollars. Liberty is pricey and not living up to it's own sharing guidelines. And there's no tax benefits, so it's even more expensive particularly for small business owners. So disappointing after investing 5 years that what I signed up for is totally different than the program is now. Buyer beware with Liberty.

Disappointed in this organization
I signed up with Liberty Healthshare because I wanted to comply with the law. I only needed to be covered for six months as I was turning 65 and would be on Medicare. Thankfully, I did not have any major illnesses/injuries where I needed to use the coverage. I just paid my money which hopefully went to help others. When I was a few days late canceling my coverage they were unwilling to refund my automatic payment even though I was now covered by Medicare.
Regular insurance companies are required by law to refund unearned premiums, but because they are a ‘Christian’ share company, they are not obligated to follow the same moral and legal guidelines. As I said, I never used their insurance, or whatever it’s called, so I can’t speak about whether it’s good or not, but I would advise others to be very careful and read all the fine print before signing up with this company.

Leslie,
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear you feel you have had less than a pleasurable experience. Liberty HealthShare is not insurance and should not be considered as insurance. We make this very clear to prospective and current members, including noting it multiple times in our application for membership and Sharing Guidelines. We are a non-profit Christian healthcare sharing ministry, where like-minded individuals come together to share each other’s medical expenses. Liberty HealthShare does not pay their bills; we facilitate the process of sharing between members. The only funds used to share each other’s expenses are those that our active members voluntarily contribute. Our Sharing Guidelines clearly note that members who wish to cancel their membership do so by the 25th of the month before the cancellation. We are not able to refund a members' monthly contributions. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly at (855) 585-4237

Wow. Pathetic
Wow. What a racquet. Why hasn't the gov't shut them down? 1 - I just received (4/17/2024) emails from them stating: "We have finalized the processing of your medical bill and a check has been issued." I'm named as the Payee. The invoices were for medical services rendered in 2020 and 2021. 3-4 years ago! I phoned LHS, only to have the agent inform me the checks were sent to my providers. I personally paid 3-4 months after services when I received statements saying LHS didn't pay, and to avoid being sent to collections. Now I have to contact each provider in order to receive the moneies I paid in full. 2- They charge $300+ /month to be a member; then you need to submit 3 pages of a Reimbursement Request to receive approx $30 back. IMHO, they count on members not to submit monthly Requests in order to keep the $30. Why would they have you jump through these hoops otherwise? 3- When I required a surgery, UCLA wouldn't accept this company. Why? I was told it was because they failed to pay. This caused the surgery to be delayed, causing the problem to excerabate. 4- Is this honestly a Christian based ministry??? Jesus wouldn't be able to agree. When they're at the Pearly Gates, St. Peter will be sayin', "you got some 'spaylin' to do."
If you don't think you can afford a decent insurance, you certainly can't afford LHS, unless you want to see your $$$$ go down the toilet. Your health, and life, depend on companies more dependable than this. LHS is RISKY. Don't jeopardize you or your loved ones.

Thank you for your feedback. Liberty HealthShare is not insurance. We are a Christian, membership-based, non-profit organization where we help facilitate the “voluntary” sharing between members to each other’s medical costs. Our SharePower fluctuates as members join and leave our program. Sharing time frames in the past have fluctuated due to the available SharePower. However, for expenses submitted after Jan 1, 2022, we have been sharing within 120 days. Each month we send out updates, advising the percentage of pre-2022 backlog expenses that have been shared. Members are reimbursed directly if they are the ones who submit the bill with a payment receipt, if your provider billed us directly, the share would be sent to them. If you pay a medical bill after it is submitted by your provider's office, we require you to then submit a paid receipt to your ShareBox; so that we know to re-process the expense as a reimbursement to you. If you do not notify us, we are not able to make the change. We understand that managing your own healthcare can be a bit confusing, and our Member Services agents are always ready and willing to assist you with submitting your bills, and explaining what is required. As a health share our members are responsible for making sure their expenses are submitted with all required information. For more information or a detailed explanation please call us at 855-585-4237 or see your Sharing Guidelines.

Constantly changing the rules because they can't keep up with payments
We joined liberty healthshare In 2016. Family of five. We were enticed by their low monthly pricing and annual unshared amount as we my husband and I were both self employed with young children and were relatively healthy.
In 2018, I suffered a medical issue that left me in a coma a two weeks of hospitalization. Liberty did work with me pretty well to navigate this, but my credit did take a hit. It was rough and the hospital was calling about payments. By 2021, everything was cleared up.
However, oue monthly fees were going up and unshared amount was also going up, and liberty was covering/sharing less. We were also not getting reimbursements back in timely amount, with Liberty citing extenuating circumstances.
In October 2023, my son needed a tumor removed. I went through all of the pre notification and worked with liberty to get it okayed. I started getting all the documents after the surgery and started sending It into LHS for reimbursement, but LHS said I had the wrong forms, not a UB04 and other tax forms. I provided all the information that they needed but they changed how they processed things and would not work with the hospital to get the right forms.
We left LHS in Jan of 2024. I continued to send in paperwork for reimbursement but the story kept changing why it was denied. lHS would not get back to me. I sent in more paperwork and LHS finally said my claim was Deniwd totally because I sent it in after 60 days since we left. Even though it was the same claim and it was supporting documentation. And I had been trying to work with them and the hospital for months. They wouldn't take the information and kept blaming it on their processors. However , they somehow were able to reimburse our deposit that we paid for our son's surgery but not the whole surgery. When asked about this, they blamed my giving them information too late and the wrong information. I started giving them information and calling them a month after my son's surgery. In November of 2023. However, I kept them updated continually with their pre notification department right after his surgery that he was not staying as an inpatient.
There is something that doesn't make sense. I have called, pleaded and tried everything. But, LHS is not a service worth working with.

Dear Vicki,
Thanks for sharing your feedback and for speaking with our Leadership Team regarding this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. The easiest way to submit a medical expense, if your healthcare provider does not submit it for you, is to request an HCFA-1500 or UB-04 from the provider. These are standard billing forms used by providers and the optimal approach for receiving all the necessary processing information. All itemized statements require: CPT/procedure codes, DX/diagnosis codes, Revenue Codes, NPI/National Provider Identifier, and provider Tax ID. Regarding eligibility, Eligible Medical Expenses will only be shared for Active Sharing Members in good standing. Sharing requests will not be considered or facilitated for members who have withdrawn, cancelled, become inactive or are not in good standing for any reason according to the current Sharing Guidelines. Any eligible expenses incurred and submitted at least 60 days prior to a member’s change in active status may be shared. Expenses incurred or submitted within 60 days of a member’s change in active status will not be eligible for sharing. This information was sent to your verified email address on file and to your verified mailing address 60 days before it became effective on December 1, 2021. Additionally, Pre-Notification is used to determine medical necessity and does not establish eligibility for sharing or guarantee sharing. Unfortunately, because your submission was received after you cancelled your membership, it was processed and deemed ineligible for sharing. The Sharing Guidelines are applicable to all memberships, and therefore we cannot overturn the processing decision for this expense. For more information, please see your: Sharing Guidelines, Page 12, Entry 3.
