Delivers on its promises, with some growing pains
Lettuce delivers exactly on what it says it will do. It automates a lot of the compliance when transitioning from a sole proprietor to S-Corp status and makes that process very smooth. I started using Lettuce in January 2025 because switching to an S-Corp made more sense for me. The onboarding and interface are straightforward and designed to facilitate that process. The last 6 months of getting settled into the system has been greatly automated, which is a double-edged sword in that it's very simple to navigate, but so simple that it excludes more manual and granular options that make edge cases hard to deal with. For example, the automatic split to a Payroll & Taxes account is great, but it's unknown how that portion will be further split into actual payroll and taxes until payroll is run for that month which makes it hard to plan how much actual income I'll have for the upcoming month until it actually runs. I find myself going to support somewhat regularly about the automated process whether it be clarification on why certain things happen or to flag something I find weird when that information could have been surfaced in the app itself instead. However, their customer support is super responsive and quick to reply which is great but I would like to go to them less often if the app can handle some of these things itself. A native application on mobile would also be great, but I'm making do with the PWA and creating a shortcut to it from Safari instead. Lack of two-factor authentication with the service itself, deferred to Google auth, is a pretty large oversight for a financial platform handling my main source of income. I created my account with email then later linked it to my Google account, which defeats the purpose of 2FA security through Google as it can be overridden with the basic login. Overall, it's been a great experience and I like the automated handling of payroll, but the same automation also makes it a bit of a headache to navigate in the early months of getting settled into the system.
