Purchased the Cedar Summit playhouse…
Purchased the Cedar Summit playhouse through retailer Costco in late April 2021. Whilst it was a pain to construct, with various bolts splitting the wood, it was eventually finished and my two children had plenty of good use. In May 2026, I went to move the playhouse due to garden redevelopment, to find that all the ground touching sections had rotted through. The rot was so bad, a mere finger and thumb squeeze saw two inch thick timbers crumble!! I reached out to KidKraft through Costco customer services, where they initially claimed I'd invalidated warranty by not yearly treating the wood. After reading their warranty document, it doesn't state that this is a requirement, only a recommendation against colour fade! After a further retort, Kidkraft hid behind my claim being a couple of weeks outside their 5-year warranty window, even though it is obviously to all that the damage (which they claim their wood is protected against) occured during the warranty period! Should anyone have any KidKraft playhouses that are under 5years old, check your wood quality and if it is becoming rotten, put in an immediate claim. It would be interesting to learn their response. The fact they think these things are safe for young children to play on with such obvious flaws to quality is a lawsuit waiting to happen!
