It has been relatively "meh." There is almost no personalized attention. I get it, I have joined a big accounting firm, and big firms don't do personalized. However, this tax year was a pretty awful experience. I am very low maintenance throughout the year, but when I needed them, they completely dropped the ball. I had questions about my business return that they were doing for me, and they didnt have the staff to answer them - making tax returns late, or have errors, or right down to the wire. They don't have the staff to handle their current clients during tax season, but I sure do keep getting their marketing emails targeting new clients, and offering if they join Heard and have them do their taxes, when Heard's current client, me, can't even get an answer for my taxes, causing my return to need to be amended. Now here I sit, having turned all my documents in by their Feb deadlines and no draft copy of my personal return yet either. I hope that their tax preparer doesn't have any questions for me because we won't be able to get an answer for two weeks, possibly causing me to file late and incur penalties.
UPDATE - they did get my personal taxes in on April 14th. But it was a messy and stressful situation. And they offered no discount for the awful service. I am leaving for Collective accounting - they don't outsource the taxes.

We're so sorry to hear about your experience this tax season. Your concern about staffing capacity during peak season is fair feedback, and we hear you. Every current client deserves the same attention we'd extend to a new one.
We've sent you a private message through Trustpilot so we can review what happened and work to make this right. We appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback.

Two years of promises, zero results, and a mess left behind.
I gave HEARD Accounting the benefit of the doubt for two years, and it was a costly mistake. Despite their claims of being experts in S-Corp tax structures, they clearly do not understand them. After two full years, I have yet to receive balanced books or any final financial products.
Last year, they promised to rectify their errors, yet this year’s performance was even worse. I ultimately had to hire and pay two private accountants out of my own pocket just to clean up the mess HEARD created. My initial point of contact, Richard Walton in Newport Beach, disappeared entirely once the issues began, leaving me with no results and no accountability. If you are looking for reliable accounting for your business, look elsewhere.

HORRIBLE
HORRIBLE, horrible, horrible. Biggest regret I have in my 10 years of self-employment. This service is way overpriced for what you get. I decided to splurge because I was hoping to get more service and support. That did not happen. The opposite happened. For a month of their service, Quicken can do the same thing of auto categorizing regular charges. The service has become increasingly unresponsive, with wait times for a reply now stretching to days and weeks. This has forced me to send multiple follow-up messages just to receive a basic response, which is unsustainable for any small business owner who relies on timely financial data. I am currently paying for a service that I am essentially performing myself with an auto categorization bot.
I have never paid more taxes than I paid with Heard. Their bookkeepers did not listen to my feedback, and would change my transaction categories back even after I edited them to what they were. I did a lot of math when I started using this platform to see if it would be worth the cost, and I'm very disappointed to say this was a massive waste of money. I would highly dissuade anyone from using this platform. I have used CPAs, tax preparation companies that work specifically with small businesses, and even H&R block. The personal services I received from each of those different companies were 20x more personal and helpful. With Heard, you have to figure out which documents to upload and you fill out your own questionnaire WITHOUT having a foundational conversation with your tax preparer. They don’t try to understand you or your business or what your personalized situation is. It is the furthest from a personalized service as you can get. You are given a chat box but the preparer is rarely online. I needed a basic form and she didn’t know what it was, so I just googled the purpose of the form and sent it to her. Apparently, that was too difficult for her to do. Also, every tax preparer has always provided to file my Franchise and Excise Tax form. But I was informed that Heard does not provide that. What? So, I’ve again had to do more work. Most other tax preparers would not file this unless they also did my 1040, so Heard put me in a position to have to learn how to do it myself and file my own with the state. Unbelievable.
You don’t get a person assigned to your account that you can deal with. It’s just basically signing up with an automated machine with no personal involvement or personalized business support.
You also can’t get out of the contract. You can’t cancel. You can’t get a refund. You can’t stop the service. I am biding my time until I get out of this AWFUL company. I would NOT recommend this service and wish I could get out of it.

Barbara, thank you for sharing this. You deserved a better experience and we take that seriously.
There were gaps in your tax filing experience — including delays and a form that should have been caught sooner — that left you doing work you shouldn't have had to do. That's on us.
We also understand the frustration around transaction categorizations being changed without a clear explanation. Our bookkeeping team makes those calls based on tax guidelines, but you deserved that context upfront, not after the fact.
We'll be reaching out to you directly to review what happened and work through next steps together to make this right. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I would give zero stars if possible
I would give zero stars if possible. Heard has not provided the service they state. I have participated for three months and have not had a single personal contact with Heard. I have not been assigned an accountant and they have done nothing to support me other than selling me tax software that I could get anywhere. They send multiple messages a day, including advising me on Feb 12 that i would require a tax extension. I find this unacceptable. BEWARE of Heard. You do not get what they promise at all.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're really sorry we didn't deliver the experience you expected. It’s clear that our communication style and onboarding process did not feel personal or supportive to you. That’s important feedback, and we take it seriously. Our intention is always to provide proactive guidance and timely reminders, but we understand how that can feel overwhelming if it doesn’t match what you were looking for.
We see that you’ve requested cancellation, and a member of our team is reaching out directly to review your account and talk through next steps. We want to make sure you feel heard and that the resolution process is clear.

Really annoyed at HEARD's service
Really annoyed at HEARD's service. I spent $1500 to ensure that they would help me with my past taxes and start my 1099 form for my one employee. I keep messaging them for help, but I haven't received a response. Not a word. Not a phone call. Now I have to go and pay someone else to help me do my taxes. So annoyed.

Disappointing
I have been a client of Heard for a number of years and initially found their service to be an invaluable resource for my practice. However, over the past 12 months, I have experienced a significant and disappointing decline in both customer support and technical accuracy. The service has become increasingly unresponsive, with wait times for a reply now stretching to a full month. This has forced me to send multiple follow-up messages just to receive a basic response, which is unsustainable for any small business owner who relies on timely financial data.
The lack of accountability regarding my concerns is particularly concerning. My reports of a fund discrepancy went unaddressed for so long that I was forced to spend my own evening educating myself on bookkeeping principles to audit my own accounts. I ultimately found the errors myself—work that I should be able to rely on a professional service to handle. Furthermore, there is a recurring lack of understanding regarding my professional context. As a crisis therapist, I frequently travel between states, yet my dedicated business expenses for lodging and meals were questioned instead of focusing on the large discrepancy I had noted.
I am also struggling with a lack of clarity regarding specific transactions that have been cited by support but are not easily visible without combing my entire years record. I value the partnership I’ve had with Heard over the years, but I am currently paying for a service that I am essentially performing myself with an auto categorization bot. I hope this feedback prompts a senior representative to reach out, reconcile these discrepancies, and restore the professional level of support I once enjoyed.
UPDATE 3/10/26: Following my initial post, Heard reached out, and a senior staff member stepped in to help get my books in order. Things temporarily improved while this senior associate was involved, but as soon as I returned to the standard support channels, I ran into the same abysmal customer service and a set of newly created hurdles.
I urgently need a copy of my 2025 transactions for my CPA something Heard has provided every previous year without issue. Now, their staff is refusing to send me this basic transaction list until I sign off on my 2025 books. The problem? Upon reviewing those books, I discovered their team had reintroduced the exact same errors the senior associate and I had painstakingly fixed just a few weeks prior.
They are exceptionally slow to respond, unhelpful when I urgently need my own financial data, and seemingly incapable of maintaining accurate records once escalated support steps away. Between the continued errors and the complete lack of reliable customer service, I am officially switching services. I highly advise against using Heard.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful review. As a long-time Heard member, you should never have had to chase updates, audit your own books, or wait a month for a response on a financial discrepancy this material. That is a clear failure on our part.
You also should not have been put in a position where your legitimate business expenses were questioned while the larger discrepancy went unresolved. We recognize the operational and emotional burden that created, and we take full responsibility for this gap in services.
Our senior bookkeeping and support leadership are reviewing your account today. You can expect direct outreach shortly so we can close this out properly and restore trust in the service you rely on.
Thank you again for the years you’ve entrusted to us and for calling attention to the areas we need to improve. We are committed to making this right and ensuring the level of support you experienced in prior years is the level you receive going forward.

Disappointed.
Disappointed. Definite gaps in expertise. Sometimes I get stingy, slow and legalistic guidance.

Here's the thing
Here's the thing, I want to be a therapist and focus on my work. I joined heard because they promised to help me with bookkeeping and make recommendations for my present sole therapy business. Instead, I am being schooled on how to work on my taxes by myself, CHATGPT, could likely help me with this; We also have a personal accountant we pay anyway, I just wanted to do my thing separately. That isn't helpful and I am very frustrated. Sadly, I need to reevaluate my subscription. My husband keeps telling me I am wasting money with them especially since we file a joint return. I presently am trying to gather everything I have uploaded to Heard, and I am having a bad time doing so. NOT HELPFUL! I have been a client since 2023.

We're sorry to hear you've had an unpleasant time using Heard. Heard isn't a traditional full-service accounting firm but instead is built with the idea of educating and enabling therapists to more confidently run their businesses while helping to automate the more monotonous parts.
As a result, there are times where you may need to do more than you would if you were paying a full-service accountant to manage your business, but on average the cost of Heard is substantially less than a traditional accountant when you compare the full scope of services we provide.
That said, it's clear that this approach hasn't been working well for you and we're sorry to hear that. If you reach out to [email protected] we would welcome the opportunity to work with you to address your frustrations and ensure we understand the specific problems you ran into.
If on the other hand the trust is gone and you've decided to move on, we'd be glad to help ensure you have copies of your documents. If you're having trouble there, please do reach out as well.
