Buyer Beware
10/27 Update: Thank you Chuck for taking time on your trip to reach out to me by email and try to make sense of it. Thank you for the apologies and saying my experience wasn't normal for J&K. I can agree. Changing my review to 2 stars for that. I appreciated the offer to purchase the chairs at Roy’s quote $550 each. I declined since I had already purchased for less than the 1st quote somewhere else weeks ago. (which you knew) We both know the public can’t see the truth in each email between all of us (unless I post them all) or the interactions of each moment. The Hooker credenza was not listed AS IS. You knew it was damaged and Chris said, “he would’ve showed it to me if he knew about it.” It was sold to ME at 50% off because it was a Discontinued piece. Also, Roy did say “you don’t have a full $400. Credit... Almost $400.” Ya know It’s really not worth my time or yours to keep pointing fingers. YOU clearly know it was not about that 1 piece of furniture or the money. I understand you have a business to run. Most won’t care about this one little review that upset all of you so much. Keeping it real. Like I said, “I’m moving on” I forgive all involved and shaking the dust off. Original 1 star review: I thought I had found another great store with quality brands. First time I came in Ms. Jerri was great helping narrow down couch options. Next time in to actually purchase, she wasn’t there so Chris assisted. He specifically said....”always ask for him when I arrive for the BEST pricing so he could “TAKE CARE OF ME” (since I buy in bulk) so I did just that. First basic trial order and delivery to my personal home went pretty well with the exception of damage to a discontinued sideboard. We went back and forth trying to work it out because I truly loved the piece and it couldn’t be replaced or the cost of repairing was ridiculous. I agreed to keep it with a $400. CREDIT towards next purchase/order. Ok.. great all is well. Until I go back in. I asked for Chris. I had a lot of items to purchase. Sadly it went downhill from there. He wasn’t available at that moment. I understood and waited patiently but what a coincidence after walking by the office hearing his filthy language about “f”ing this and “f”ing that ... OOPS! Once he acknowledged me, said hello. That’s it. It’s as if he pushed me off to others who were absolutely clueless about anything and everything. (EXCEPT Madison) There’s probably not enough space in this review for me to go into ALL the details or explain the deception, emails etc. I’m sure they’ll justify their actions. I’ll try to keep it brief. Credit was a joke. I’m at the counter ready to hopefully place an order, purchase .... and was told NO credit. They rang up a decor item on sale originally priced around $350 and was told price was $180 something because the huge sale 30-70% off. Sounds great huh? Should’ve whipped out my ccard and bought it right then. Well, I asked them to hold it while I grab lunch and wait for the quote sweet Madison was working on.... knowing I needing to apply 10% down before ordering plus I was also waiting for them to try again on a dining set... 3rd quote for an OLD quote they didn’t stand by. $450 per chair jumped to $776. Multiple other pieces through out the store I needed to ask about ... but waiting till I had the other numbers. Upon returning, I went to the counter to purchase the same decor item already-rung up... they lost my info/transaction and rang decor item up all over again. Oh now it’s almost $300. !!! AND I was told I don’t have a full $400. CREDIT... just almost $400! What!?! They applied the $300 to the purchase of the decor item...? I received a receipt, But no balance on credit or paper trail. They just wanted me out I guess. I asked if we’re good? Yes you can go. So, at this point I said no to the overpriced new dining set quote. I hated to tell Madison no, to all the beds etc. Ugh! So done. It’s not worth walking in again to get the ALMOST $100. left on the so called credit. How can they stay in business doing people like this? I’m assuming Chris probably told them to mark up everything on me by x percentage. Forget the BIG sale. Running me, the customer off because of his last experience with me. Those of you who know me... know I’m not one to do negative reviews or make a big fuss. But, BUT This is the main reason I’m doing a review so the owners will know that he is running customers off! Maybe not all customers trying to purchase for multiple homes. Mattress's, headboards, dining room chairs, etc etc. around 20k+ for just one luxury rental but after the last purchase of almost 10k for my main home living room. I’m just not going back ...all because of his personal bias towards me. All because I blasted him for sending me a sideboard/buffet that wasn’t inspected prior to leaving the store... it was full of trash, had cracked slate inlays, stains, scratches and dings. He felt led to give me the credit... Givers remorse? Ego issues? I don’t know. Too much negativity for me. Thought it was worked out! Guess NOT. Thankfully, I just placed an order elsewhere. Same exact items for less AT original prices with no sales tactics. No deceptive price changes. Just BEWARE! I would love to give 5 stars alone to Ms. Madison for working hard to win me as a customer. (Not even knowing I was a repeat) I was ready to make the purchase. Yet had to wait on other items I was considering. She went above and beyond. She was fair. I would hire her in a heartbeat!!! And I would almost purchase from JK again because of her being very knowledgeable about the products and being such a joy. BUT unfortunately due to previous experience and this last one, I will not be returning.
Response from J&K Home FurnishingsOct 24, 2019
Ms. Metcalf, We are so sorry that you are upset over your experience with J&K. The original sale was 7 months ago with the clearance piece floor model you bought SOLD AS IS. I understand you may not have seen the crack in the marble or scratches/dents (which is why it was very heavily discounted). While its up to the customer to inspect and accept the clearance item we did still offer to fully refund you but you didn't want that as you loved the furniture piece so we wanted you to be happy and offered a you $400 credit in store. Chris has since moved from Manager of our Little River location to Manager of our newest Coastal Grand location in Myrtle Beach . When you arrived that day at our Little River store Chris happened to be there for a Monday Managers Meeting. It seems you worked with multiple employees that day (none of which knew about the credit the owner extended to you as it was only knowledgeable to Chris who you were going to work with). Trust me when we say Chris has no bad will towards you or any customer and our practice is of course not different pricing for different customers. Chris extended a deal to you when you were buying multiple items (chairs for your dining table) and when you ended up only wanting to buy a couple the extra deal was no longer applicable. You did have a $400 credit (not almost $400) and you used it part of it for your accessory piece you purchased that day. I spoke with you about this and offered you the quoted sales price only on the chairs in a further attempt to satisfy you . We do not have deceptive sales practices and no designers work on commission which is unique because our goal is to make sure we take of our customers . We have the highest possible rating with the BBB . We try extremely hard to treat customers the way we want to be treated which is why we offered the 100 % refund and when you did not want this we offered a additional $ 400 credit . I am very sorry that you did not have a good experience . I will be happy to discuss further with you if you desire . Thank you , Chuck Dawson
