Pricing is Unreasonable
I cannot comment on a final product because I decided to choose another company. I just want to caution people to get multiple quotes and try local jewelers before making a decision. In my experience, the pricing from this company is very inflated. I understand the cost of materials, the cost of custom designing, and the cost of making a ring. However, I was told that a simple dome bezel ring would start at $2,500 when I’m providing the stone myself. I had a custom ring made with another company in the last year, and the total cost was $750 (I also provided my own stones), so I know that this is unreasonable. In addition to the high pricing, the jeweler also said they would not use 10k rose gold (per my request) and would instead use 14k rose gold. She stated that 10k rose gold is “brittle” even though it’s also known to be more scratch resistant and suitable for daily wear jewelry. I can understand making a suggestion, but I think it’s wrong to state that they would not use the metal that I requested. I was not pleased with this initial communication and would caution others to do their own research and price comparisons before making a decision! Edit: I received a quote for the same custom ring today that is $1,300 from a company that also used CAD design. They would use my requested 10k rose gold as the metal, but this is the only difference. I’ve done my research and understand the value of gold. I find the representatives of this company to be condescending. I would never buy anything from Brilliant Earth because they are wildly overpriced as well.

Dear Courtney, Thank you for sharing your perspective. We understand that custom jewelry can vary widely in pricing, and it’s important for clients to explore different options. While we never aim to be the lowest-priced jeweler, our focus is on creating high-quality, lasting pieces at fair and reasonable prices. For context, larger jewelers such as Blue Nile and Brilliant Earth list 1.5 CT 14K dome bezel rings very similar to the design you requested at equal or higher prices than our $2,500 estimation and those examples are not even custom-made. Our pricing reflects today’s gold market as well as detailed CAD design tailored to your specific stone, a professional appraisal, warranty coverage, and ongoing aftercare. These are the standards we uphold to ensure every piece we create becomes a lasting heirloom. On the metal choice: we recommended 14K instead of 10K because 10K’s rose gold higher copper content makes it brittle during casting with larger stones - and we don’t compromise on durability for pieces meant to last. We respect your choice to go in another direction, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify our approach for others considering working with us. - JewelryThis Team
