I took my son to the Jackson Hewitt located inside Walmart in Vienna, WV to file his 1st tax return. I was not for sure what to expect. Tammy helped my son out. She was very knowledgeable and kind. Took her time and did not feel rushed. Knew exactly what she was talking about and showed us online resources. Will be going back to Jackson Hewitt next year!

I filed my 2017 taxes in 2018 and the preparer Abigail in Sanford, FL seemed to be lost and constantly on the phone which made me very nervous and for good reason. She made a terrible mistake that caused Illinois State IRS to put a levy on my bank account on 10-4-19. I worked in IL from January 2017 to April 2017 and moved to New York from May 2017 to December 2017. Abagail, my inexperience tax preparer entered my entire gross pay for 2017 under my Illinois State tax. This showed that I owed over $1800 in back taxes. I must submit an IL 1040X Addendum for my state tax with the correction of my gross pay for 4 months that I worked in Illinois. Once I have completed this task, I then must email my IL 1040X to the Illinois tax levy department along with all W2s. You think Jackson Hewitt helped me? Not a chance. H&R stands by their customers, though they’re a bit more expensive, it’s well worth the money. Big fail and I wouldn’t ever do my year-end tax filing with Jackson Hewitt again! Thanks for putting me through this experience Jackson Hewitt. Maybe you need to provide better training for your tax preparers.

Years of unfailing excellence in customer service is to be commended. This year with the new tax laws many credits were lost and we owed taxes. Mr. Cordero was informative, explained thoroughly the new laws and even offered tips on possible ways to prep for next year's taxes! (without prompting) We are not overjoyed at paying additional taxes but his professionalism and his genuine concern for us, his customers, brings us in every year and will continue. He exemplifies customer service. Thank you!

I filed my 2017 taxes in with Jackson Hewitt for the primary purpose of using the refund advance that they offered, we didn't get approved being that we had an offset; thinking that was the issue. -Fast forward to 2018 taxes- We asked about the No Fee Refund Advance, and were told we are prequalified and that it shouldn't be an issue because it comes straight from your refund. We got denied, I called the office that I filed with for an explanation as to how or why, and was told that the bank who authorizes the loans does not do credit checks and that it's something to do with my refund . I called the bank that provides the loans and they verified that they do soft credit checks. So now (regardless if it is a soft credit check), we've had a credit report pulled without our consent as it wasn't mentioned and have to pay $422 for a service that I could have done myself for free. We will no longer be using Jackson Hewitt, simply because they withheld information for a reason that seems to just be used as a way to pull clients in an take their money. Going to read reviews before hand from now on and continue to use the free tax prep services online.

I have worked remotely in the web/mobile tech space for nearly 20 years and have always done my own taxes. This year, however, with some additional expenses from my late mother's estate, and a larger than normal Federal Tax Refund ($14,599), decided to bite the "filing fee bullet" and get a refund advance. Went to the Jackson Hewitt office in Coos Bay Oregon with my (already completed) IRS Form 1040, W2, ID, etcetera. It takes a couple of hours but everything gets typed into their system and the lady helping me tells me what I already know (I'm getting back $14,599) and says I will get an email with "my choice" of the "Go Big" refund advance loans in amounts from $3,500 to $6,000 through their partnership with MetaBank and then tells me that my filing fee is $290.00. I'm thinking that's a bit steep for an easy Fed only filing fee, especially since I could have just clicked a button and e-filed my own return if it weren't for needing an advance, but I go ahead and pull all my cash from two accounts ($220) and then call the CEO of the company I work for and borrow another $70.00 so I can pay the fee. It's been well over three hours at this point and I have missed 1/2 a day of work as well. I then drive the 30 miles back to my house and open the email from JacksonHewitt @ MetaBank.com which reads: "Sorry WILLIAM, Based on the information you provided, MetaBank® could not approve you for a Refund Advance loan at this time." AT NO TIME did the "Licensed Tax Professional" advise me that there was ANY chance of not even getting approved. Or advise me that it may be smart to apply as well for the regular "no fee" advance that I prequalified for ($200 to $3,500) "just in case" I wasn't approved for the "Go Big" advance. No, instead, even though she KNEW this was all the money I had in the world, AND listened to me as I called and asked my CEO for a loan, let's me leave with what is now my 2nd exact copy of my 2018 Federal return (now filed) and a receipt for the $290 buggering I just took. Well, you say, perhaps she isn't at fault (it wasn't on purpose). I would actually agree with you to a point. I do believe she had no way to know that I would be denied. However, with "30 years of experience" as she put it, and what I found later in the reviews of Jackson Hewitt on Consumer Affairs (literally a COMBINED score of ONE STAR - worst I have ever seen) that this issue is far from an isolated problem and actually seems to be an aspect of how the company does business.
