The site requests ID verification; but the ID ME system never successfully captured my photos; thus no verification. AI chat is not helpful for specific issues; but with a representative you must be verified in the system, which does not work. The phone system puts you in circles before allowing you to select a representative, then a recording tells you to call the next business day. This has been going on for six months. I have been seeking the status of my 2022 return that I submitted last year for about six months now. Can’t get through on the website, via online chat and via phone. There is no one to contact. Unbelievable.

Called in multiple times to take care of my tax issue. Been hung up on every single time after long call waits of 40 minutes or longer. Now holding for 2 hours, and the holding music is on repeat loop, completely excruciating. And of course, got hung up Chat is not better either, waiting for 20 minutes just to have someone to chat with you.

Seriously? I accepted a mistake and want to pay my difference and the "channels" you give me are all dead ends? I literally just want to pay and you make it so hard to do that?! You are terrible, you need to modernize, and someone from the IRS should actually try to do something in the phone or chat system. It's horrible. Complete fail.

Would choose ZERO stars if it were an option. Have tried calling IRS at least 30-40 times in the past few weeks to find out where my overdue refund is. A letter I received said it would be sent no later than 8/31/26 and it is now a month after that. I have never been able to talk to a person. I frequently wait on hold for a long time, and them am told "we are receiving more calls than we can handle now" and click... The DOGE firing of many IRS employees seems to have made the system even worse than it used to be. Totally lame!!! Time to stop paying taxes and wait for THEM to call me to get their money!

The IRS is so damn quick to take and so damn slow to give back. I filed in March, it's now September and I still don't have my $1300 refund!! But they took what I owed pretty fast! The IRS is a product of the damned and we should be free of those idiots!!

I was trying to contact IRS customer service several time many tims but it was horrible experience. Phone kept on hold for long hours and disconnected. How we can supposed to get assistance in this situation. Who got time to sit on hold all day then disconnected without Noone coming to Phone. Frustrating. I was trying to pay and the website was giving me a hard time i try to call i can make it right no o e answer to get an appointment it will be for a couple of months. Is how you serv customer?

Irs put a Levy on my pension because the reputable tax office I went to stated I drove commercially without my knowledge. I didn't even know what the reason was until I spoke to an IRS agent. As a federal employee, the system should have kicked it back. The examiner who reviewed my taxes at the IRS should have stopped it as well. If I had told the tax preparer that, he would have told me that I could not claim commercial driving on my taxes. Also, my records showed that I worked as an administrative assistant. I'll never understand why I am at fault for this.

The IRS website has the worst system, the automated phone line and AI chatbox are useless. The AI chat box is not helpful, if you wait the 40 minutes and get hung up on. I've spent a collective of 30+ hours sometimes on hold for up to 3 hours then being hung up on. I've called at 3pm, 2pm, 1pm, 12pm, and 11pm. And many of the times it will hangup. The chat box is useless and the phone line is useless to get anyone on the phone. The AI Chat box and AI phone line is the least helpful for questions and to help you resolves issues. It almost seems like a make it so difficult for people that they give up on the process here.
