Your initial sales person will sell you this whole wonderful experience that is about to happen. And it’s not actually going to happen. There will be more hidden fees throughout the process - such as, we will need more space on truck to hold your stuff and we need to shuttle it to your house instead of keeping it on the truck so there’s more money. Then, your stuff will sit at the warehouse for over 2 weeks because they have 21 business days to get it to you.. And you’ll never be able to reach “your representative” that is dedicated to you. They never answer the phone and take a week to respond via email. And they pass you around from person to person. Terrible experience for the 12k I paid.

The service was fine until upon delivery I discovered they lost a box and then all I got was “these things happen”, “some things are out of our control”, and “you don’t have the right insurance to file a claim”. I wasn’t aware I needed to insure myself against their incompetence. Their employees labeled and inventoried and loaded the box into the crate with all my other items. They shipped and delivered everything else. What happened to the one box? Boxes don’t just vanish into thin air. Someone in this company misplaced it or took it. And they won’t take accountability.

I have to tell you I really thought I had done my due diligence. Boy was I wrong. It began ok, I spoke with Justin who assured me "the buck stops here". Well to begin I was told they would arrive on 6/25/26 between 2-4pm well I got a call at about 7ish stating they would arrive about 9pm and take 3-4 hrs to load my belongings. I told them no to come first thing on the 26th. So then I was told per contract my belongings would arrive between 7/2/26 and 7/30/26 again they were wrong the did not arrive until 8/3/26 at which time as the movers unpacked my furniture. The bedrail was broken. The dining room table was broken and a coffee buffet/cart was also broken. Missing was a ladder and a box containing several LP records. All communications stopped on 7/27/26 when I asked why my belongings were being delayed. Customer service and others have not responded to emails or phone calls.. I have filled out all of the required paperwork to file a compliant, but to be honest at this point, I am just expecting it all to be denied. I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau.

Customer Service is Nothing No one can ever provide you with an update. No one follows up when they say they will. Information on your possessions is a vacuum. They provide zero comfort that your absent goods are in good hands. Nerve-wracking nightmare waiting.

We moved about halfway across the country a few weeks ago and IVL was our moving company. The contract clearly states that only IVL trucks were to be used, but they contracted it out on both the pickup and drop off. Not one IVL vehicle was used as clearly stated in the contract, only contractors. The pickup went as planned and my wife and I did all the boxing, labeling as requested and had it well organized. It was on time and the movers were great to work with. Our possessions were sent to a warehouse where they were offloaded and sat for nearly two weeks! Again not what we were told when we signed. But the delivery was the biggest issue. The driver, again a contractor hired two locals to unload which we expected. The first guy showed up about 90 minutes late and second guy about 2.5 hours late. Both complained loudly about doing the job and how they weren’t being paid enough. I gave them each a few extra dollars to help out and we bought them lunch. They paid no attention to the labeling on the boxes and just stacked it all in one room, promising to sort it out at the end of the day. Furniture was all brought in with the blankets still on and no clue what was inside. Again just tossed into the living room, garage or wherever they wanted with no regard to where it should go. Within a couple hours BOTH helpers disappeared! It was now the driver and my wife and I, both retirement age left to sort it all out. My wife and I did almost all the unwrapping of furniture and we were left with a pile of boxes to unravel and sort through. We worked for5 straight hours that after the help disappeared non stop just to get the idiot driver out of our house before dark! They insist on being paid before unloading, so we had no options what to help or he would have been there until midnight. On a Sunday I contacted IVL after the move and they were completely unresponsive. They asked for “proof”and documentation of everything but how do you document incompetency? We have moved long distances twice before and used a different company and had a great experience both times. Not with IVL. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you want a moving company that cares. IVL does not.

My experience with the moving company International Van Lines. Would not recommend. The movers came to pick up my stuff at 4 PM. They had already done two jobs that day. They were tired and in a hurry. Same exact experience when they came to drop my stuff off at my new place. They lost some of my stuff. They damaged almost all of my furniture. International Van Lines is clearly one of those companies that hires as few workers to do as much work as possible. That leads to shitty service because the workers are always tired and in a hurry. Ultimately, I wish I had just sold my furniture and started over at my new place rather than pay for such a shitty service from International Van Lines. I feel like if you're moving and you have furniture that is so nice you really want to transfer it with you, you probably have enough money to hire a better service than International Van Lines.

The final price was 20 percent more than the estimate. They add on loads of fees for rolling up a driveway or down a hall. Like $600 more for a small apartment move. Then you must pay by venmo or cash to the driver who just takes this money.

Spirit airlines of moving companies. They charge by space instead of weight and I felt nickel and dimed at every corner. I was moving from Portland to outside of Phoenix. I paid way more than my quote because my two piece sectional was "larger than the standard 2 piece sectional" and my boxes were from Home Depot and those are slightly bigger than Lowes boxes, which is what they use for measurements of moving boxes. At no point did anyone advise me or say anything about getting my boxes from a certain place. I was told the team would arrive between 8 and 9am, they called at 9:30 and said they'd be there in an hour. They didn't show up until 11:30, then spent an hour going through paperwork and telling me how much more I was going to have to pay. Took about 4 hours for a small 1 bedroom apartment. The team was friendly though. Then I gave alerted the company 7 days notice for my desired delivery date. They confirmed the date after getting it wrong first. They said it could take anywhere from 7 to 21 business days to arrive but I would be alerted when my stuff was loaded and on its way. Then I did not hear from them again. After 7 business days I reached out for an update and was told I would be contacted shortly. Then never heard from them again until day 10 when my local delivery team called and said they had my stuff and asked when they could deliver. Both local moving crews were great and very nice, besides the Portland crew being really late. I had to call IVL during the delivery to figure out how I could pay (see below), because they couldn't start unloading until I paid. The Customer service line was a voicemail. I called again and went through to "get a quote" and explained the situation to the person that answered. He was incredibly rude and condescending. At the end of everything, I'm missing my cat trees and ended up with someone else's giant area rug... Also completely bizarre that you can pay the deposit with a credit card, but the remaining balance (half at pick up and the other half at drop off) can only be paid by cash, check, or PayPal credit... Should've said something about this during the estimate process but nope. It was written at the bottom of an email. It was not fine print, but this is kind of bizarre and I think they should've brought this to my attention sooner. Overall, IVL itself was not professional and seemed pretty shady. I would not suggest IVL to anyone and will not be using them again.
