I booked my move with a binding quote of $4,436. After submitting my final inventory on July 4, they revised the price to $5,111. Then, on move day, they increased it again to $6,851, then down to $6,071, and told me it could go as high as $7,000 — even though my inventory didn’t change.
I was still trying to understand the changes when the manager told the crew to leave. I never canceled. Nothing was moved, packed, or loaded — yet they kept my $1,772 deposit. This experience was stressful, unprofessional, and felt like a total scam.

careless packing, predatory price increases
The movers worked hastily, damaging a sentimental item I had packed myself by reopening my closed box and throwing random items in to pack it. They were careless in this way. Additionally, the company raised the price at each stage once we had no choice but to continue since they had our stuff.

IVL was good to work with up until move…
IVL was good to work with up until move day. They are a broker - had a driver come in that worked for IVL and hired 4 Mexican workers that didn't speak much English and they'd never met before. On packing day, the driver spent every minute talking on phone and didn't provide any help or guidance. The second day, the driver hid, played Nintendo, and left for several hours leaving us with only the Spanish speaking crew. After they got my stuff, they did such a bad job communicating, I thought I'd been scammed. We got conflicting answers about where our stuff was in storage. Their dispatch contact refused to answer direct questions on the phone or email and never did tell us when our stuff would be delivered. Thankfully, the driver called to let us know he was on his way. Once again, a new contracted crew came in and the driver disappeared the entire time. One of the crew was a problem but IVL rep wasn't around to help. Both crews left trash everywhere (inside, outside, in our stuff). Several things were damaged or broken, found another person's stuff in ours. We haven't finished unpacking, so hoping we're not missing stuff. Either way, I'll never use these guys again.

Worst moving experience ever…
That was the worst moving experience I’ve ever had. They told me it would take 8-12 weeks for a groupage shipment from NY to Barcelona and it ended up taking 6 months…

A moving nightmare
We moved from Kansas to Illinois in July 2024 using International Van Lines, which appeared highly rated on the internet. Our experience with them was a nightmare from beginning to end.
The process of estimating costs, even apart from overcharges for materials that we were able to correct in the end, seemed designed to seriously underestimate expenses. Some of this may be attributed to our naivete and inexperience, but, judging from internet reviews, underestimates of 25% are common with the company.
The costs of the move would have been tolerable were there a modicum of services provided for them. However, that was not the case.
We spent the week before the move frantically trying to contact their customer service representative to clarify the time of the pickup and what we would need to do to be prepared for it. Calls continually went to voice mail and were never returned by the representative. As a result, we learned too late to do anything about it that a cashier's check would be required if there was not to be potentially a week's delay in delivery so that our check could clear.
Most important, the move itself was a disaster. As best we could tell, IVL subcontracted with other movers or used questionable affiliates to have the work done. The first group showed up at our home in a rental truck from Enterprise. They apparently unloaded our furniture at a warehouse where others reloaded it at some point. It was eventually delivered in a nondescript truck by movers whose English appeared limited. It is a system that seems designed to encourage poor service and a lack of accountability.
The results were problems and damages that went far beyond those ordinarily encountered in moves and, in some cases, that resulted from sheer negligence. For example, the movers disassembled a Danish dining room table, but lost the hardware so it could not be reassembled. They lost the legs to a Danish modern desk that we needed to have a furniture repairman remake. They disassembled a table with a marble top that we thought was indestructible--it wasn't. They snapped another coffee table in half. They also managed to lose three large boxes that were only located and delivered three months later. And they lost a filing cabinet that is apparently still floating around their warehouses somewhere.
Claims for damages are handled by an organization called Movingclaims.net. Before dealing with IVL you would be well advised to look up reviews on the internet of the organization at the Better Business Bureau, Reddit, and similar sites. It will give you a good idea of the nature of the organizations you will be dealing with. Suffice it to say, it took three months from the time our meager claim was settled to get a check.

Never use IVL
Avoid! The quote process was great and then everything from there was terrible. I reached out to provide my delivery date, no one answered my calls or emails when I finally did get someone they said I had the wrong move coordinator, despite emailing the person in their original email. Then they wouldn’t pro rate storage for me, despite the prorate being needed because of their delay. Once I finally got my move day they have a policy of 2-21 days for delivery, they took the full 21 and I ended up paying an extra month in rent. When my stuff arrived they added on 2 more flights of stairs to the agreement because it’s not flights of building its stairs to landing. Once unpacked they had destroyed every piece of furniture (over $3k in damage) and the driver got out of there as fast as he could. Unless you select supplemental insurance your stuff is valued at $.60 per pound so I was due $250 but… The insurance company they work with denied that and offered less than $100. To summarize, they don’t communicate, they are deceptive, and they break your stuff. Save your time, go with a better company.

NEVER NEVER HIRE IVL
NEVER NEVER HIRE IVL as a moving company. At every phase, representatives lied to me. And, worst of all, they served as a broker rather than a mover and assigned my job to a much lower rated moving company, American Knights Moving and Storage. Goods were stored by American Knights in Texas for over two months,. This is after I was promised that my goods would be moved to my new location (Delaware) by IVL and stored at an IVL facility in Delaware, providing prompt delivery once I’d moved. It occurred despite being told that IVL did not use subcontractors and was told, “Absolutely not. Only International Van Lines personnel will pack and deliver your materials.” If I’d wanted to hire the inferior moving company I was assigned to, it could have cost less. But I didn’t choose an inferior company (or so I thought). And it was inferior: One bookcase was broken beyond repair, as were numerous glass items. A valuable poster was folded in quarters rather than properly rolled or packed flat. One box was lost altogether. American Knights packers insisted on emptying all dressers. They also repacked many items that I had packed in certain baskets or containers, making it ridiculously time-consuming to get everything organized again. Delivery was by yet another company: Speedy Movers. These unpackers could not read instructions written on every box, nor follow oral directions for placement of the boxes. NEVER TRUST ANYTHING IVL SAYS and NEVER HIRE the company.
