I used International Van Lines for an international move because they told me they could do it in 8-10 weeks tops. The initial experience was great - quick responses and helpful service. Unfortunately, the move took twice as long as promised. When I inquired several times about why this happened or if there would be compensation, the response was either delayed or I never received one. I even emailed the employees I worked with a final time to see if they could simply communicate the explanation as to why it happened. No response again. We all make mistakes, and that's okay! However, the integrity of a company rests on their ability to own their mistakes and then offer amends if needed. A complete lack of communication is not acceptable. It's a shame, because I would otherwise give this company 5 stars.

WORST HIRING DECISION WE EVER MADE! Our domestic long-distance move with International Van Lines was supposed to involve one truck and five days to pack and drive directly to our new home. Instead, it ended up taking 31 days, 7 to 8 truck loads (none of which were owned or operated by IVL or its employees), stops at numerous other locations, and cost almost twice the original estimate, when you add in the three-week forced hotel stay while our goods were held hostage in an undisclosed storage facility. It was a nightmare from start to finish. Our belongings were three times held hostage while demands for more money (sometimes cash only) were made. Our things were damaged, and some are missing. Their packing was negligent and resulted in many damaged or destroyed items. There was no inventory control--we even ended up with someone else's belongings, and nothing was done about that, even though IVL was informed. All the promises and guarantees made by IVL when we hired them were broken. Communication was horrible--inefficient, rude, and unprofessional--throughout. Before the nightmare was even over, they first offered us money to be quiet, then threatened to sue us if we spoke out about our experiences. Such behavior certainly explains their good online reviews. By the way, we have all this in writing. I've never experienced such deceptive and/or incompetent business practices in my life. We have published the full story of what happened to us, as well as many strikingly similar experiences of other victims of this company, on our information site, which bears the name of this company. A horrible experience I've ever had with a moving company. No useful information on the delivery date; no one will answer your questions/call/ email accurately; behavior of these people gets substantial changes before and after you make contract with them. you'll be up on the air with no information on your delivery date. If you want to use them for your move, make sure to reserve a hotel for a month, as you will not be informed on your delivery.

Based on the good reviews online I contacted IVL for a quote for my move from the USA to Germany. The sales person was very nice and I had the impression that they know what they're doing. I gave all information about my situation (no elevator, long way to truck/container and parking situation). My information were recognized but when the packing & loading team arrived on the day of the move I realized the information were completely ignored. The team was not prepared for the move and it took them 11 hours to get everything done. When I moved three years ago with the same household it took professional movers only 3 hours for the job with the same amount of people. In Germany I was waiting for my container to arrive. I was notified 2 days before arrival of the container about the final invoice with the need to pay it before they can release the container. That was not possible for me to send the money from Germany within 2 days as it was already known from the previous process so that the container was delayed in the harbor and caused additional costs. IVL claimed they sent me the invoice 10 days earlier but they also sent me proof (log file / invoice date) that they didn't. It was clear that the delay was caused by IVL but all discussions didn't help, they forced me to pay for the additional costs of about $1500 to get my belongings back. After I paid the invoice IVL completely ignored my emails with refund requests. IVL is not professional and not at all customer oriented. They know that the people need their belongings and utilize that shamelessly to increase costs and push financial responsibilities to the customer. Please do yourself a favor and never work with them if there is room for a mistake - they will make it and you will pay for it.

I contracted with International Van Lines based on positive online reviews. I moved from PA to CA in March 2019. Their staff did over $2,000 worth of damage to my antique wood furniture, lost boxes of china, crystal, family heirlooms, and some old jewelry and silver went missing (even though the cases and stands these items were in arrived). After paying $15,000 for the move (much demanded in cash), my loss is estimated at $25,000. I was offered $500 if I signed their release form (which I refused to do), and am now said to be due around $100. The communication was terrible once I signed and sent the deposit, as was almost everything else. DO NOT USE INTERNATIONAL VAN LINES.

After 23 years and a dozen military moves, this was the worst experience we’ve ever had. Their estimate was off by nearly $7000. We were unaware that estimating the cost of moves by cubic feet is a known scam. Only after they had our belongings did we realize that they had not loaded and packed the truck honestly. Also at that time, we realized they had failed to label most of the boxes. We were told they only label boxes if the customer requests it. The delivery driver emphatically denied that was true. Many pieces of furniture were damaged and we will file claims accordingly. As of now, they have stopped replying or following up on any promises they made to try and make things right. The “customer service” rep that dealt with us was the most unprofessional, rude, obnoxious person I’ve run across in a long while. His sarcastic, snarky replies never aimed to solve a problem or help the customer. His name is Jeremy Smith. Brian Stanley was my original contact but we stopped hearing from him once the truck was loaded and the cost went up so high. Run, don’t walk to ANY other moving company.

I had the most horrendous experience with International Van Lines. it was a mistake to book them in the first place. I moved from NJ to Chicago, summer of 2018. I had paid for full packing and unpacking. the did not even deliver inside my stuff at delivery, they said they have no tools to do that. the people who showed up to deliver, were Labor Day workers and not professionals. they came with 2 different Budget Rent trucks. I paid over $10,000 from original estimate of $8,300. Get ready to fight for your stuff, they somehow get rid of the most expensive items, and they change their story every time.. most of my expensive items are somehow lost, total 8, but each box has many valuable items on it, my safe knob was broken, it looks like they try to opened it, they could not, and broke the handle knob. the most was when they offer me a settelment in writing and few days later they changed their entire story. this company is ran by scammers and not business people. SHAME. they charge you by the yard and make extra things and not by pounds, scammers.They are a subcontractor, not a moving company. I will file a complaint with the Feds.this company need to be punished for their actions. I'm having the most horrendous experience with International Van Lines right now. I'm beginning to think it was a mistake to book them. I moved from Cambridge MA to London UK. Container arrived in the UK and was scheduled for delivery today. They never showed up, as it had been cancelled at the last minute because International Van Lines had not released the shipment. Spoke to customer services on the phone who said he was trying to help but hardly listened, such that I never even got to the point of my complaint! He even said I was being ridiculous when I said I was trying to escalate to my point of contact's manager! I have also been trying to resolve with my logisitcs manager but her responses seem contradictory to both the factual timelines and information in writing from the local shipping agent! IVL suckered me in by beating competitors quotes, and then attempted to overcharged me on the final invoice. The driver arrived hours early with the container and they tried to charge me for this. When I complained they didn't resolve the complaint until 2 days before scheduled delivery at my house. I also got charged because they couldn't get the container to the ship on time and it had to wait in the US over the weekend. This was a big surprise to me and was not mentioned at the time. It all felt a bit like a bait and switch to be honest. Despite the fact that I paid on time (considering the late receipt of the corrected invoice) they did not see the payment, nor did they see the chase-up email sent by the local shipping agent. Consequently they did not issue the release for my container, resulting in a last-minute cancellation of a scheduled delivery. This has further escalated my costs (parking restriction costs and port rent charges per day) which would have been avoided had the release been issued on time. I made a simple reasonable request that International Van Lines be responsible for any additional charges caused by the last minute cancellation which was their fault, either based on the late resolution of the invoice problem, or based on the late processing of the payment received and the lack of responsiveness to the local agent's query. That request is yet to be adequately considered or addressed! I am beyond disappointed and would never recommend International Van Lines to anyone. I wish I'd stuck to the company that moved me to Boston in the first place!
