International Move, Not Happy
We hired International Van Lines to move our used household goods from Portland Oregon, USA to Switzerland in June 2020. We had a contract for door-to-door and packing services. I was surprised when International Van Lines didn't send a representative to estimate the volume of our household goods prior to the move, nor did they send a representative to supervise the packing and loading. Due to the pandemic we had to keep our distance to the team packing up our household items, we were not able to supervise the process. The inventory list I was given by the packing team was mostly illegible.
The moving container was supposed to take 6 to 8 weeks to travel to Switzerland, instead it took more then 11 weeks. Partly this delay can be blamed on the pandemic, partly the delay was caused by the sloppy, illegible inventory list. The company that was hired by International Van Lines to get our moving container through customs in Germany contacted me and asked me to put pressure on International Van Lines to provide them with a complete, legible inventory list. Only after I sent IVL an urgent email did they type up a legible list for customs.
When the container arrived at our new address in Switzerland we were dismayed to discover that many of the cardboard moving boxes were neither numbered nor labeled. We had to open the boxes in the street to find out what was inside and where they had to go. Needless to say that we lost a lot of time, and many boxes ended up in the wrong place. It was impossible to say if the delivery was complete. To our surprise it turned out that an entire adult size bed, which had not been disassembled, was missing. More dismay when we started unpacking: Our champagne flutes for example had just been wrapped in paper and put into large moving boxes, instead of being put into small boxes with individual compartments for each glass. Lots of our dishes were broken, dress pants and dinner jackets were stuffed into big boxes instead of being put on hangers, our carpet was crumpled up, brown packing tape had been put directly on furniture and upholstery.
I emailed IVL with my complaints. I gave them 17 days to answer, but didn't hear back from them. I emailed again. This time I got a very short email from them saying that I hadn't paid for extra insurance, so I was not entitled for any kind of compensation. They did not apologize, nor did they offer an explanation for the loss of an adult size bed. As our moving container had been half empty, I suspect that other people's moving goods may have been added to the load and our bed was accidentally unloaded in the wrong place. IVL denies that.
I wouldn't trust International Van Lines with my household items again.

Terrible service, shady requests for more money to personal accounts
Prior to the move, I had decent customer service, but once everything was packed I didn't get any form of clear communication. Was informed about 36 hours before the delivery time and had to purchase a last minute plane ticket. Then, the delivery date and time changed 3 times. Upon arrival I was asked for another check in excess of the amount that I was already charged for due to stairs (I was charged for stairs when I booked the service) and the worker wanted it sent to a PERSONAL ACCOUNT! Luckily, when I had to get a hold of the company to sort this out I actually was able to speak with someone, which had not been the case up until then. Furthermore, screws that were needed to put some items back together were no where to be found. I called customer service about what to do, they said we will figure it out and call you back. I'm still waiting on that phone call. About to give up and do some of the labor that I paid for. This was an expensive move, and it was terrible service. In addition to some home item casualties some of my furniture and tables have dents and many scrapes in the wood. I have no idea how this company is still in business; use a different company, it's not worth it, and the price isn't even low for the terrible experience.

This company has horrible customer…
This company has horrible customer service. They will lie to you on the phone and tell you it will only take 3-7 days for your stuff to arrive. They will also lie about what day your stuff is being picked up and make you wait for 8 hours before they return any form of communication to tell you when delivery will actually be. They will then place your items in storage, and wait for the last possible moment before they deliver them. If you ask them for updates about when your stuff is arriving, they will ignore phone calls, emails, etc. They know that they have all the power and that there are no "guaranteed" delivery dates. So technically they could legally wait 6 months or 3 years to deliver your things and you would have no way to get them back. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY EVER.

Hands down worst customer service
Hands down worst customer service I've ever experienced. I caught them in a lie about a "broken down truck" which wasn't the actual case and once this was uncovered they didn't respond to multiple emails or phones calls while they had all of our belongings on a truck somewhere and wouldn't provide us any information. Truck was confirmed to arrive Monday and a one sentence email response said they were sorry they have been on the phone but it will be Wednesday or Thursday with no reason why. They rest on the "our contract says things can change and unfortunately they did" yet again no explanation. Just strange in 24 hours delivery shifted 3 days and not one person in customer service will respond and they lie to a paying customer. It is inherently clear they just want your money and hold your belongings hostage so you are put in a bad spot no matter what. They should be respectful they are carrying a full house of an individuals belonging and it is the right thing both legally and ethically to do to keep their customer updated on where their belongings are but instead they ignore multiple emails and phone calls. Our contact Jill B should be taken of out of her role seeing she is far from a customer service employee. Who knows when our stuff will arrive but I assure you if you want to be updated on your belongings, have a company that's honest with you and reliable then choose someone else. No idea how they are ranked top 3 but their yelp rating is dead on!

They are awful
They are awful, very unprofessional. I had the worst experience moving from LA to Hong Kong with them. The shipment took more than 3 months to arrive and whenever I tried to contact them I was going straight to voicemail and they never answered any email. I really thought I lost all my stuff. When the shipment finally arrived, there were hundreds of dollars of additional charges. They are awful STAY AWAY!!!!!

DO NOT TRUST
First let me say that I am a verified customer, I am not a paid bot.
DO NOT TRUST! --- AVOID!!!
As other honest reviews point out below, this company is a total scam. I won't recommend them. The way they operate is exactly how other reviewers described: nice until they get your money.
They keep asking you for more money and extra fees that were not quoted on the contract. Basically they ask you for shady cash payments or they will keep your goods.
I have hired them for an international move from NYC to the UK, but my belongings ended up in a storage in Amsterdam. Which I had to pay for myself in order to get my goods back. Unprofessional to say the least.
Their communication style is rude and unprofessional, as other reviewers have said. You have been warned. Do not trust.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY I have moved 13…
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY I have moved 13 times so I am a very knowledgable client. I arranged two cross country moves at once for my daughter and her husband and for my 98 yr old mother, from 2 different states, with IVL. IVL is only a broker - when I asked Brian Staley if they were an actual moving company or brokers, he told me “IVL has specific contracts with vetted companies to move household goods”. He also told me that I would have a direct line of communication with him from start to finish. Once we had contracts signed and things started to go wrong neither Brian or his assistant Karen answered our calls or called us back! Brian even gave me "his personal cell phone number" that when I was desperate and tried to call him - had a recording that said the number "was not able to accept calls"! Things went wrong from day 1 - beginning with being told the movers were arriving on a Sunday and after waiting the entire day in a boxed up, internet off, no TV condo - received a call at 4 pm saying the movers would be there on Monday. We called every number given us and not one person was available or called back. The move took weeks and then when the truck finally arrived the driver would not bring the truck to a reasonable distance (when we were told by several neighbors bigger trucks had been within 50 ft of our place), made his crew walk through snow and then eventually use their own car to transport the load to the condo. Driver had his kid and dog in the truck and never got out to move a box! Every piece of furniture my daughter owns was damaged - every piece of wood is scratched and chipped! My mother's move was even worse. Same thing with the switch of pick up day. The movers appeared to have no knowledge of how to pack things (at 98 we needed the full pack service). They were slow and sloppy - boxes were only half filled - literally 50% of the boxes were crushed when they arrived. All but 2 lampshades were destroyed upon arrival. Her antique wicker couch had holes punched in the wicker in several places. Her shower chair has 2 missing feet. They "ran out of wardrobe boxes" so had to put hanging clothes in picture boxes (the only boxes they still had on the truck) yet when we opened the boxes they had used a wardrobe box for pillows!! It is obvious now that IVL simply contracts the move with the cheapest moving companies in each city - they are the worst/newest/least experienced companies - hence their taking IVL contracts at lower prices. And in both of our cases once the movers arrived and loaded the truck - the price went up by $1000!! So in summary, these people are liars and cannot be trusted with your precious furniture, clothing and memories!
