horrible experience
I've had a horrible experience using International Van Lines for my recent move. I do NOT recommend using this company for your move, and am detailing my experience with them below: - The only satisfactory part of my experience with IVL was the timing of my pickup and delivery. My items were picked up and delivered within the expected window. I received my items one week after they were picked up. - My first frustrations occurred with the moving teams who assisted me. Despite assurances on the phone that the movers would wear masks, not all of the movers did so while interacting with me or moving through my home despite their advertised COVID-19 precautions. - I realized belatedly that the moving team marked almost all of my items as having pre-existing damages, which in many cases was blatantly untrue. The company uses a shorthand on their inventory description form, which I didn't decipher until later when I filed my claim. For example, both of my rugs were marked as "stained and badly worn", or possibly "stretched, torn, and badly worn". I honestly can't tell the intended description, but considering that both of my rugs were in excellent condition and already rolled up and packaged it seems that the company's policy is to mark nonexistent damages to minimize future claim payouts. - A number of my items were lost or damaged in the move, including a TV which was absolutely shattered. I filled out forms for these missing and damaged items at the time of delivery with my movers, and was told that IVL would be in contact about locating my items and filing a claim for damages. In fact, nobody from the company initiated contact with me and it was only after five weeks of consistently leaving emails and voicemails with various IVL representatives that I was even given a claims form. At that time I was also told to claim my missing items, which I am sure the company never tried to locate. At this time, several more weeks have passed and I am still waiting for any reimbursement. - I also want to note that IVL is not actually a moving company, but rather a moving broker. They contract out your move, so that while I've only had contact information for IVL representatives, my move was actually carried out by other companies. This has made it incredibly difficult to get any information about my move at all stages of the process.
