I’ve only gotten one box so far and am disappointed. I had high hopes for this service as prices & shipping seemed reasonable and I loved the concept of not letting food go to waste. However, I was notified the day before my box was delivered that 3 items were no longer available and I wouldn’t be getting them. When I got my box, there was one item missing that I paid for. The nectarines were somehow rotting and rock hard at the same time, the blood oranges tasted disgusting, half the eggs were broken, and there was a PIECE OF RUBBER BAND in one of the bagged salads I was eating. Pretty hard to plan meals or make recipes when everything is so unreliable. Customer service did refund me for the missing item and broken eggs but it’s a hassle to even have to go through all that. I was curious if the issues I had were common so I looked up reviews… & wow this company seems hopeless. I’m unsure if I want to give this another go or not go through the trouble.

They were great for a while...but...
They were great for a long while, but I feel like things have really changed over the last few months. First, they stopped picking up my boxes for re-use and when I asked about it they said it would never happen again. The next week when it wasn't picked up, they said they had discontinued that service...which was one of the reasons I had stayed with them. No notification--just dropped the program and didn't tell me. Today, 7 HOURS after my box usually arrives, I received a text saying it would be delivered 2 days late. Surely they knew this before that. We plan our meals around the food we order. I was informed of the 2-day delay AFTER dinner (the box usually arrives before noon). They have definite communication problems in their customer service. If the box was not packed and sent out, THAT'S when i should have been informed...not after the time I expected to eat the food. I do not want a response to this review, an apology, or an excuse. I want the service I pay for and timely communication when there is a change or problem. I am very understanding if I am informed of what's going on and treated with respect. Apologies are worthless and insultingly late.

Imperfect Experience!!!
I held off on writing this review for a long time. Today I was pushed too far and need to share my experience. The reason that I have been a customer for over a year is that they do offer some great items for good prices. And when they totally screw things up, which they will, A LOT, they stand behind their mistakes. The reason for the 3 stars is because there are things I love and things I hate about this company, so I decided to go for the middle rating.
In the beginning, I got a lot of damaged stuff, especially the eggs, which they consistently packed at the bottom of a heavy box. It was very aggravating and messy. They have gotten much better about this. I have had random items in my box, have not received items that I have ordered, have received items that were misrepresented on their website, and a host of other issues.
I have also had numerous delivery issues, with today being the worst. I am severely disabled and the driver completely ignored my delivery instructions, leaving a very heavy box in front of my door and trapping me in my home. I was able to catch him and I politely asked him to move the box, advising him where it should be left. When I went outside I discovered that he had left it in the middle of the stairs on the other side of my house, where I really couldn't get to it at all. In the pouring rain. This both saddened and infuriated me, since I was very clear and very nice. The worst part of the delivery issues (and you will have some) is that they consistently tell you that they are unable to reach the drivers. Really? In this day and age? With cell phones and GPS? Really? But they will tell you this any time there is an issue. That is simply unacceptable and it is unfathomable that they refuse to address it.
So why am I still a customer? Because when they get things right it's good. I have been exposed to a lot of products which I never would have discovered otherwise and the quality is generally good, despite the name. They have a lot of organic items and I find things here that my local grocery stores don't carry. Each time I am tempted to walk away from this company I am reminded that I may need to give up some of these products, and I stay. At least for now.
If you are thinking about signing on, you will need to decide if the good outweighs the bad. It's worth a try but don't expect perfection. They will live up to their name.

Disappointed
I have heard great things about this service, so I was excited to try. I get imperfect, but inedible is not acceptable. I had mushy strawberries that I will be surprised if they last more than a day. The cherries were the same and had growths on them that weren’t imperfect, they were rotten. My eggs showed up broken and stuff that was supposed to be on ice was just thrown on top of the cooler bag and not put inside. I was very disappointed and canceled my subscription after one box

Oh goodness, we're so sorry to hear that your order was not at all up to our standards! We promise produce freshness for at least four days, although most of your produce should last much longer, and you should never receive anything you can't enjoy. If you haven't already, please reach out to our team right away so we can make it up to you: bit.ly/2FYqBdx

Wasteful single use gel packs
It would be better if they re-collected the GEL PACKS that they put in every box, and reused them. It’s really wasteful to use ONE TO THREE GEL PACKS in EVERY SINGLE BOX. They just tell you to drop it off yourself at one of few participating centers, and who knows what happens to it from there. They should collect the gel packs themselves and reuse them! This company does not seem to serve any purpose for the environment. If anything it seems harmful due to the use of gel packs. Even the “drain safe” ones are a production of chemicals in a plastic bag. How hard would it be for them to recollect them? Their intentions seem really questionable.

It's been okay but I absolutely hate…
It's been okay but I absolutely hate that they have a shopping window and throw stuff in their most people will never eat. It's like they are giving us what no one else wants. What am I going to do with 3 lbs of meatless meat? They need to allow people to clarify any allergies, things they won't use etc.
Response from Imperfect FoodsMay 14, 2021
Hi there Vescha! Thanks so much for your honest feedback and thoughts. While we totally hear where you're coming from, our shopping windows are necessary as working with ugly produce, short-coded pantry staples and local refrigerated items is unpredictable. Our inventory each week isn't finalized until just a few days before your delivery and we'd never want to offer you an item that we may not have!
We also want to let you know that we do have a great way for you to let us know you'd like to avoid certain items! Pop over here to read all about how our Food Preferences system works: bit.ly/35P3UFm

Hi. First timer.
Hi. I received my first box the day after the delivery date OK so we had a big snow storm and they could not get through. I can not say I was completely satisfied. The vegetables, carrots precisely, broken, stubby, looked as if these were thrown off the truck in transit then placed in my box. Ugly is one thing, run over is something else. The avocados seem ok, waiting for them to ripen. Also I have never seen an avocado the size of a hand ball. Broccoli beat up and brown in some spots. Plum tomatoes big and very un ripe, not green yet not reddish, waiting for those to ripen also. Oh some veggie bowl was good, potato with kale corn and salsa hot sauce. Missing, smoked salmon. Tiny oranges good too. Hmm... I try again this week.LMD

They do not carry all items a normal household needs, still have to go to the store
I've had a couple boxes. I am not sure how I feel yet. I will say that honestly I can get everything I need at the grocery store for the same or less price. And there is no way I can buy all my normal items I weekly shop for, they simply don't carry what I usually buy, so I still have to go to the store. I did get some very tasty salmon in last weeks box, but they were out of it yesterday when I went to customize so I just skipped this week. Oh, and the pears are excellent. I'll see what's up next week but am leaning towards cancelling. They need to have a better selection of stuff. If I still have to shop for dairy items and other pantry items at the store I might as well do all my shopping at the store.
