Ready to switch from a competitor — Hospitable gave me no reason to
I had heard a lot of good things about Hospitable and was seriously considering switching after using another major PMS for almost two years. Unfortunately, my experience with Hospitable’s sales process has been extremely disappointing. I scheduled a call with a sales rep, Marshall Joynt, and explained my situation in detail. I currently have almost another year prepaid with my existing PMS, but I have experienced enough problems with that company that I was seriously considering walking away from the remaining prepaid service and moving to Hospitable now. I was specifically interested in Hospitable’s $59 Professional plan. Despite making that clear, I was still pushed toward the $99 plan during the call. One of my biggest concerns was migration. I have an established Airbnb/Vrbo property with existing reservations, pricing integrations, smart locks, etc., and I was understandably concerned about moving everything without creating downtime, syncing problems, or double bookings. I was told that migrating one property could take approximately 6–8 hours and was then offered Hospitable’s “Rapid Rollout” onboarding service for $500. So let me understand this: I am considering abandoning approximately 10 months of prepaid service with a competitor in order to give Hospitable my business, and Hospitable’s solution is to charge me another $500 to help move one property onto their platform? I explained very clearly that I was willing to consider switching immediately, but that Hospitable would need to offer some type of meaningful competitor-switch incentive to justify the financial hit. I specifically asked Marshall to speak with management about a first-year discount and/or waiving the onboarding fee. His follow-up email completely ignored that request and consisted mostly of links and information that can already be found on Hospitable’s website. Only after I called this out did he clarify that management would offer no additional subscription discount whatsoever beyond the normal 12% annual discount available to everyone, and that the absolute lowest they would go on the $500 onboarding package was $350. A $150 reduction on an optional $500 onboarding service is not a meaningful incentive to switch providers. It still means I would be forfeiting months of prepaid software and then paying Hospitable an additional $350 simply to help migrate my account. What makes this particularly disappointing is that I actually liked a number of Hospitable’s features. Their Google Vacation Rentals/direct booking integration, smart thermostat automation, ChatGPT integration, and other functionality genuinely interested me. I went into the call as a serious prospective customer. Instead, I walked away feeling like Hospitable was far more interested in upselling plans and paid onboarding than actually removing the barriers preventing a customer from switching to them. Marshall ultimately told me that because I only have one property, the concessions Hospitable can make are very limited, and that if this meant I was no longer interested, he understood. Fair enough. At least that was finally a direct answer. But if a customer is actively considering leaving a competitor, is prepared to abandon nearly a year of prepaid service, and is asking what Hospitable can do to earn the business, I would expect a company that wants to grow to bring something meaningful to the table. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
