Time Share Scam!
Time Share Scam!! In 2018 we were lured into this time share by manipulative business men preying on the youth. Me and my husband were just college students looking to find an affordable vacation. We received offers in the mail from Holiday Inn promising a nice weekend stay at a low price. When we arrived to the Orange Lake Property we were greeted by a crew stating we had to attend a mandatory seminar as part of our stay. We could not understand why this was mandatory, we were just looking to rest and and relax from school. We went into the class expecting to be in and out and it was a minimum of three hours that they spoke about their different properties. After the class we were led in a room with several salesmen that offered food and beverages. Despite us trying to leave they demanded that we sit and listen to them go over how we could have a lifetime access of vacations whenever we wanted for very low rates. After all the pressure me and my husband agreed to have this unlimited vacation access that was presented to us for as little as $200 a month. We were then handed off to a lady in the back with a stack load of papers for us to sign. When asked what were they far we were told so we could have access to all of their properties. Needless to say we were bamboozled. None of the terms and conditions were mentioned in any fashion. Neither were the Consumer Laws that were specifically designed by Government Regulators to protect Timeshare Purchasers at the time of sale, BEFORE they sign a contract. Government mandated warnings should include time shares are not a good investment, timeshares are not a appreciating asset for your children, timeshares are not easy to sell, consumers should not rely on hours or oral promises made by sales rep. When we attempted to plan our first vacation it was completely booked for a year. We attempted other locations as well but there was no access to this unlimited vacation we were promised. I called the company and expressed my concerns and told them I wanted to stop my payments. I did not know this at the time and of course they didn’t inform me but because I was within 10 days my account could have been closed. Instead the Representative told me the only way out was to sell my timeshare to someone. This was the first time I understood that I was locked into some sort of contract. I understood even further what had happen when I received an update on my credit, reporting I had a mortgage with Holiday Inn. I’ve had this account since 2018 and have tried rigorously to get out! Also Apparently there is some astronomical interest rate tagged along to this as well which makes paying it off completely impossible for a middle class family. This interest was never reviewed or cleared by me or my husband we didn’t even know such a thing existed with the point plan we were presented. When I review my credit report it says only 34% of the 11,000 loan has been paid and I’ve already paid nearly 8,000 not to mention the 4,000 in maintenance fees! This is complete injustice that should be investigated. You go in thinking you are buying vacation points and unbeknownst to you, you now have a mortgage! We were so young and trusting at the time. I can’t believe how this company took advantage of us. Since 2018 of opening this account and learning about the corruption I’ve never used any of their services but we are still making payments because of a hidden contract we were manipulated to sign.
