1 star is a higher review than I prefer to leave for HireRight. I’ve never seen anything like this. As law enforcement, I have done many background checks (both state and federal). I have never been told a job couldn’t be verified. It’s pretty simple- call the company and verify it. But instead, HireRight has you send in countless documents and still can’t verify it. For example, they want the end date for the job I’m currently at. There is no end date! I’m still here! Unbelievably inept. Now, you’ll see below my comment, their insulting response which says they are “sorry you’ve had a negative experience” and to contact their customer service because they’d “love to hear from you.” They also say you can submit W2 for employer, but that it must include a start and end date. That’s not how W2’s work. The fact that this even needs explained tells you they do not know what they’re doing. I’m hoping to still get the position I’ve been hired for, but the rate this is going, I don’t know. After reading the reviews, how is this company an legit background company?

Zero STARS... this company is a BIG joke! their employees do not know what they are doing....every time I contacted them they always say that they will contact the escalation team, which never follow up or helps... I even contacted the Manager/Supervisor and he also never contacted me to fix the problem. Then I had to deal with it myself with out their help. Hireright is a big scam. Hireright requires to fax the applicant's release but they have too big mess to find it and to end the background process.

Terrible tool. Bot/chat closed my browser session. Interface is miserable and after on phone with customer service they have no idea why my information is not being taken by the system.

According to Hire Rite's list of US Acceptable Documentation: o W2s Wage and Tax Statements from the Internal Revenue Service. o When W2s are received, three things must be clearly visible and decipherable before the documentation can be applied; the applicant's name, the name of the company that issued the document, and the year the document was issued. If any of the three are missing and/or indecipherable, the document cannot be used to verify employment. W2 print outs from Turbo Tax, H&R Block, etc. are not acceptable. I supplied my W2's for the companies I worked for (and current employer). HireRite would then send emails telling me the documents were unacceptable as they did not contain my start and end dates for employment. Also they stated the W2's were to be from the Internal Revenue Service. There is a fundamental misunderstanding at HireRite, as W2"s never contain emplyoment start and end dates. Also, the IRS does not issue W2's, (Unless you work for the IRS) as your employer is the entity that generates the W2's for the purpose of tax filing. HireRite does not answer their phones calls, they leave you on hold (and indicate a person will answer your call in 2 minutes or less) for long periods >15 minutes. Their customer service chat option is staffed with inexperienced individuals that are apathetic to the issues you raise, but are unable to rectify the issues. If one could rate HireRite with a negative rating, they would have earned it. Lastly they failed to get much of my background information correct, they had one of my home addresses listed as 2150 Michigan Ave. in the town where I lived. That is the address of the local UPS store! I could go on with more examples, but you get the idea. They are not a good choice for background checks for employment, I.M.H.O.

Just plain awful

HireRight is a joke!!! My current employer used them when I was hiring on, took a month to go through their BS!!!! I had to do their job for them!!! They would come back to me every other day saying they couldn’t verify this or that instead of doing everything at once and then coming back to me and letting me know. Bottom line is they were useless, I had to do their job for them and eventually I sent over a bunch of my 30+ years of experience at once and told them I wasn’t playing their game anymore and then got ahold of my employer and told them about the BS I was putting up with and told them you’re either going to hire me or I’m moving on to greener pastures!!!… needless to say a few days later I was hired… now my wife is dealing with a potential employer who has basically hired her but have been waiting on hireright to do their job. Once again, my wife has to do their job for them… HireRight is horrible, scum!!! They are truly a waste of time and a scam… if you’re an employer thinking about using this 3rd party background check company don’t waste your time, make your own HR department do their job, it’ll be faster and more accurate

0 stars if I could. Everything the other reviewers say is true. The ask the employee to do the background check for them, they do not seem to do anything, asking for information they have already been given, get dates wrong. Overall the worst experience with a 'service' company I ever had. If you are an employer, why do you pay these people???

A horrible experience. Both myself and my prospective employer have been waiting for weeks for my background check to be considered complete. I've contacted customer service numerous times and it's clear none of the representatives really know anything and have zero communication within the company. I have provided them with more proof than what they require and yet here I still wait. A joke of a company.
