HireRight’s background check process is deeply unprofessional and inefficient. There is no practical way to speak with a real person, responses are slow or non-existent, and their rigid, checkbox-driven approach wastes an unreasonable amount of time for candidates and third parties alike. Had I known how poorly this company operates and how many similar reviews existed, I would have seriously reconsidered accepting any offer that required dealing with HireRight.

I would rate this company a 0 if I could, I had a terrible experience with HireRight. Their service is painfully slow, communication is nearly nonexistent, and errors on their reports caused unnecessary stress and delays in my employment process. They seem indifferent to resolving mistakes, and getting any human support feels impossible. The system feels outdated and confusing, and updates or corrections take forever to process. I would strongly caution anyone considering using HireRight—they make a simple background check feel unnecessarily complicated and stressful.

Terrible! They kept asking for the same intrusive information repeatedly and sending cryptic messages which delayed the hiring process and stressed me out. There was no contact person to speak to. Chat support eventually agreed to give me a phone number. The person who picked up the phone was unable to provide any information other than the fact that the reviewers’ first language is not English. They are offshore somewhere (that’s probably why they never interact with candidates). So some information may not be well understood and thus be requested repeatedly. This gave me pause as I was providing extremely sensitive personal information and was not comfortable with it moving to offshore servers where Canadian privacy laws don’t apply. The agent said another possibility I am receiving requests for the same info is because they have not yet reviewed it and the system sends these automatically. They are opaque, and inconsiderate with zero concern for the candidate’s time. I hope to never have to go through with this ever again!

This was all around a terrible company. I was supposed to have a simple background check and instead they took days to work on my previous employment just to get nowhere and for me to have to tell them repeatedly that I did not have some of the impossible to get documents that they were asking for and I had to have my previous employers manually call them. If I did not have a good relationship with my previous employers I imagine that I would have been completely unable to get through the background check. None of the workers or customer service speak English well at all which makes it even more confusing. If you are a company reading this, please do not ever use HireRight.

Deserve zero stars, a truly awful company: 1. Harass you with no-reply emails and impossible to talk to anyone 2. Misrepresent you to your future employer - claimed I was not cooperating when I had been in multiple interaction daily. This is disgraceful. 3. They are focused on performing the least effort - they push you to find information from previous employers rather than contacting them directly. 4. They pressure you to provide documents that you should not legally share (such as previous employment contracts). A truly disgusting company.

The user experience shifts the entire burden of data entry onto the candidate, essentially forcing me to perform the work that the vendor is hired to do. The system failed to parse my resume effectively, requiring manual entry of ten years of history that was already provided. Furthermore, the rigidity regarding specific start/end dates for employment and education from over a decade ago creates unnecessary 'discrepancies' and anxiety. A background check service should reduce administrative friction, not increase it. This platform is archaic, redundant, and user-hostile.

I had a background check done by HireRight in 2024, the results were fast and they did their job of finding my previous company's contacts. I'm going through a background check again and the experience is absolutely horrible. First of all, I submitted the initial data 10 days ago and the background check is still ongoing. Their software product is flawed: I cannot edit certain data and email notifications for updates work 1 out of 3 times. They keep asking for 1-2 extra documents at a time repeatedly and they ask for redundant information. I have submitted employment contracts, extracts of my social contributions and provided contact information of my last employer and that's still not enough to confirm my previous employment. They also ask for the exact document you have already sent before which is infuriating.

Horrible customer service. 48 hours to get any answers. Placed on long holds. Not willing to help in any capacity. DO NOT USE!
