Oscar makes all decisions based on computerized technology. When anything goes wrong no human review overrides mistakes. I had awful time getting physical therapy approval. The physical therapist and they’re billing department and I each went back-and-forth 1 million times with Oscar to clarify their denial they’re partial denial, their approval which one was valid. By the time they squared away with the physical therapist organization, the weeks they granted for therapy had almost run out in other words they can’t do physical therapy weeks as including the time we were going back-and-forth with games. Then, when my physical therapist asked for an extension, Oscar declined. One reason was because I had already received an extension. However, that initial extension was only due to the technologically bureaucratic games. No wonder health insurance rates are so high when so much provider time goes to dealing with lack of human interaction. The supervisor, who reportedly took over my case never did give a formal confirmation. Even before this back and forth, Oscar required an assessment contraindicated for my condition. That’s part of what they based one of their denial on. They ask explicit rating scales for the therapist to read. When I said 10 out of 10 for pain and three out of 10 for function, Oscar‘s interpreted three out of 10 for pain. That was another part of their denial. Gxd you stupid morons! I even reported Oscar to a supervisory organization that got back to me with a generic message that meant nothing! I am sure the USA fastest oligarchs are part of the problem as is Oscar management. What a hell scape living in technological nightmare. My physical therapist ended up giving me three free sessions because of Oscars games. That should not have to happen. Provider Organizations should not eat that kind of cost. They happen to be a Catholic organization so I appreciate the charity. But I cannot say enough foul badmouth about Oscar insurance company, and all their subsidiary and all the people they outsourced to. That was part of the problem. Well one organization made one determination and another organization made another determination. I as Client do not care who makes what determination. The outcome should be clear. No health insurance company or their subsidy should approve a complete set of treatment and then resend and then take weeks and hours of too many peoples times. All Oscar gave me when they sent notifications was a number. Some other number had been approved declined partially declined. I did not know what that number represented. I insisted on documentation that indicated “final“ decision. Never received.

I was so happy I dropped Oscar Insurance at the beginning of this year. The “Telehealth” service is abysmal. Had to remind them three times to please email me the authorization for blood work. I dealt with a practitioner who is registered in multiple states and had little time to deal with me in our Telehealth sessions. I wanted an annual physical exam , especially in my 60’s, and that couldn’t happen with them. That’s why you have the Telehealth lol. I requested referrals for two minor issues but the one referral was for the wrong type of doctor for that medical issue. It was laughable and I could go on. But the ultimate insult is their insurance is the same monthly pricing as my current one. Since the beginning of this year with new insurance , I have had all the above that Oscar couldn’t provide. It was nice to walk into a physical medical facility again and get detailed healthcare advice and detailed follow up on my bloodwork.

The purpose of this correspondence is twofold: first, to register a complaint about the poor customer service I’ve received, and second, to formally request the assistance that I have not previously received. In January, the portal stated that I had nearly met my deductible, although at that time I had not received any medical attention. Then again in April, prior to an actual procedure, the portal stated that my deductible had been met. And yet now, it states that I have not met my deductible. This discrepancy has forced me to cancel an upcoming surgery until I understand my true position with the insurance and can properly budget for my expenditure. I have contacted customer service a couple of times to request an explanation of the above and the associates I’ve spoken to appear unable to properly explain the variance. When I was unable to get clarification from them, I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that they could not come to the phone. Which, in my opinion, is unprofessional. It has taken several attempts but I was finally able to get a supervisor to speak to me and their conversation was simply to repeat the same generic information about the definitions of deductible and out of pocket expenses without actually addressing the system discrepancy with my deductible. As this problem can impact my health choices, I am formally requesting an audit of my account to detail once and for all exactly where my deductible and out-of-pocket stand, a question that both your customer service and their supervisor could not answer, so I can make the proper medical decisions.

My daughter has a suspected heart condition and Oscar denied her heart monitor. She did everything she could to stay in network and was told her insurance would cover it. For Oscar to deny this is disgraceful. They're quick to send reminders to pay our health insurance premium but take weeks to process a claim which they ultimately deny. Update - Oscar agreed to cover the heart monitor and process it as in-network as this comes under the No Surprise Billing act.

I'm not going to elaborate on a critique because they don't even deserve that; this health insurance is the biggest piece of crap in the entire United States.

Absolute worst insurance provider i have ever worked with. they do not cover any medical expenses outside of primary care visits, dont even cover annual physicals or urgent care. everytime i get a service i receive a bill weeks later. they do not communicate with care providers that they wont cover things. actually oscar lists things they cover and then change thier mind at the last minute and charge the customer. this company is a total scam and i would recommend staying away at all costs because it will cost you. if i could give negative stars i would.
