About Hear and Play Music

At Hear and Play Music and the Gospel Music Training Center, our passion is helping musicians worldwide unlock the art of playing the piano by ear. Founded in 2000 by Jermaine Griggs, we have dedicated decades to teaching the dynamic skill of understanding and interpreting music through ear training, music theory, and recognizing patterns. Our focus is on soulful music genres that best express this art form, including gospel, jazz, blues, soul, R&B, and pop.We believe that playing by ear transcends traditional music learning methods, allowing musicians to experience and express music in a deeply personal way. Our specialized approach teaches students to hear recurring themes in songs and interpret them creatively on the piano.Over the years, we have reached and serviced more than 2 million musicians through various platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, our email newsletter, free lessons, comprehensive paid courses, and a personalized coaching program. Our resources are designed to cater to learners at different stages of their musical journey, from beginners to advanced players.Hear and Play Music and the Gospel Music Training Center is more than just a teaching platform; it's a community where musicians come together to share, learn, and celebrate the joy of music. Join us, and embark on a musical adventure that will transform the way you hear and play music.

Indeed, If you can hear it, you can play it.
Lessons structured in a way that is helpful to completely new learners. The training Centre lives up to its motto:”if you can hear it, you can play it”.

This a great platform for aspiring keyboard players, but be ready work and make a true commitment to learning and practicing. I gain a lot from hear and play music. But my time won’t let me do as I should. Overall this is a game changer for everyone learning play the piano.

Compared to other online music…
Compared to other online music instruction, there's too much talk. Pianio with Jonny is the best. So little talking, they get right into it. The result is faster learning and more enjoyable learning. I really like gospel, but there is too much talking with Hear and Play.

Hi and thanks for your review. While it depends on the products you may have purchased from us, our true goal is to create understanding and we cannot achieve this without teaching theory. Many of our students want to play in charismatic, dynamic environments that include having to know a song in all 12 keys --- situations that include praise, worship, periods of jubilee and shouting. It's not something that can be merely taught with mimicry. Teaching chords by memory can get someone through a song but many rely on us to get through a church service that is not planned in the way a concert might be. However, with this in mind, we understand that preferences of teaching will vary from person to person. We're glad you found a solution that works for you. Thanks for your repeat business between 2010 and 2015 and all the best.

Too many questions
Too many questions. The application form to apply for music lessons. Was ridiculous . Why was it so difficult? I could not even complete it.
Response from Hear and Play MusicFeb 6, 2024
Hi Deborrah, thanks for your review. As you were applying to discuss our highest level of service (the VIP Coaching Program), it does require a stringent application. Unfortunately, your review would be akin to me rating a school low because it was difficult for my son or daughter to get into. Kindly reconsider your 2-star rating in lieu of focusing on the many helpful materials we provided prior to this most recent application experience. Thank you for your business over the years and all the best.
