About Hear and Play Music

At Hear and Play Music and the Gospel Music Training Center, our passion is helping musicians worldwide unlock the art of playing the piano by ear. Founded in 2000 by Jermaine Griggs, we have dedicated decades to teaching the dynamic skill of understanding and interpreting music through ear training, music theory, and recognizing patterns. Our focus is on soulful music genres that best express this art form, including gospel, jazz, blues, soul, R&B, and pop.We believe that playing by ear transcends traditional music learning methods, allowing musicians to experience and express music in a deeply personal way. Our specialized approach teaches students to hear recurring themes in songs and interpret them creatively on the piano.Over the years, we have reached and serviced more than 2 million musicians through various platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, our email newsletter, free lessons, comprehensive paid courses, and a personalized coaching program. Our resources are designed to cater to learners at different stages of their musical journey, from beginners to advanced players.Hear and Play Music and the Gospel Music Training Center is more than just a teaching platform; it's a community where musicians come together to share, learn, and celebrate the joy of music. Wonderful teachers. Wonderful people.
I purchased How To Play By Ear by Jermaine Griggs back when he was a 19-year-old. I'm impressed by what he's doing now but not surprised. He's gifted with the talent of making people feel like they can do anything - even play piano, no matter your age. I look forward to learning more from him and his amazing and heart-centered team. Much love and respect!

I was unable to get into that at all
I was unable to get into that at all. Every time I tried the website only went to the promo. I do not want to enroll in that.

Hello, thanks for your review. Unfortunately, all attempts to get you on the platform have seemed to be missed or have gone unnoticed. I've counted over 10 text messages, 5 e-mails, and 2 voicemails as we take onboarding new students very seriously. I believe there is a greater tech issue prohibiting logging in as this is typically not something we're given such a review for (or you'd see them back to back here). Mr Allen, if it is still your goal to play, I am confident we can help but we'll need you to reply to our text messages, phone calls, and e-mails so that we can assist you in creating your username, password and logging in. Perhaps then you will consider revising your review. Thank you and looking forward.

I'm so happy I found Hear and Play…
I'm so happy I found Hear and Play Music and Gospel Music Training Center. They offer exactly the kind of piano learning courses I was looking for and I'm getting so much out of it. I feel like I have the roadmap I need to progress and become the musician I always wanted to be. The instructions are excellent, customer service is excellent, and the curriculum is excellent. They give you step-by-step instructions and offer you very basic all the way to very advanced instructions. They really thought out this program well. I'm getting so much value out of the courses. And it's really great that I'm progressing while I'm learning exactly the kind of music I love, which is gospel music. Also, while what I'm taking is a self-paced online course, they actually take the time to offer support through phone and text, which is really nice, especially nowadays in the digital world. They seem to genuinely care about you and your progress and the personal touch is really priceless. Thank you, Hear and Play!

This is NOT one on one training
This is NOT one on one training. The format is not conducive to my learning style
Response from Hear and Play MusicApr 27, 2025
Hi Samuel, thanks for your review. This is a group coaching program with one on one opportunities with coaches via WhatsApp. It is not marketed as one on one and always as group zoom classes with students at your same level. We will have your advisor Tyler reach out to disenroll you as that would have been a more feasible first step before the public review, as we take our reputation very seriously over the last 25 years. Our apologies for any miscommunication that would have made you think these are traditional daily one on one lessons. We meet DAILY but in a group setting. Thank you.

The journey of playing music.
I gave it five stars because hearandplay.com teaches music in a way that is clearly understood and with patience. My journey with them has given me more tools to work with in my piano playing. From scales to prochords, adding them in songs to enhance the sound.
