Bad Company Service
My sister, living in the United Kingdom, for Christmas, ordered for me, living in Salem, Oregon, the Deluxe Wild Salmon and Wine Gift basket from the Hazelton company. It was listed as including maple glazed smoked salmon, smoke salmon pate, camembert cheese, crackers, maple syrup, acacia wood cheese knives, and a bamboo cutting board. What finally arrived three weeks after Christmas, were five packets of assorted crackers, a bottle of Woodbridge Merlot, a bottle of maple syrup, a container of hot chocolate, an Italian Salame sausage, and a lemon! The disappointment was heightened by the fact that I am pescatarian (I eat fish, but not meat) and do not like hot chocolate. I do understand that there are many considerations to take into account this year with Covid providing heavy demand on gift baskets and delivery, but an initial lack of communication over the Christmas period and finally a random selection of unrelated items seems in no way a satisfactory replacement. When my sister and I both raised the issue and the unfairness, independently, we both received from separate individual the same stone walling, at first no response to phone calls or emails, then finally the claim that they had the right to replace "as per (their) substitution policy stipulated in (their) terms and conditions, at times substitutions may be necessary to fulfill orders in a timely manner, especially in the event that an order is time-sensitive and intended for a special occasion." The total unwillingness to accept any responsibility for such an outlandish selection of random and unrelated (and of unequal value) items seems churlish and unprofessional. As a consequence, on Friday February 19th at 4:00 p.m. PST I returned all the items back to the company because the items and the response from individuals in the Hazelton company was unacceptable. I returned all Hazelton's items in original box with all packing, basket, bow, etc, (and lemon - in a plastic bag as a courtesy.) I have asked for a full refund. At the end of all this my sister in frustration gave a one star rating to the Hazelton company on their website, and the company had the sheer audacity to increase it to five stars. This level of accountability and misrepresentation leaves one truly aghast.
