Poor workmanship, no accountability
We purchased our house in Oct. 2021 and promptly had the roof replaced by 1-800-HANSONS. In May 2022, our city's (Livonia) building inspector visited and determined they did not add proper intake venting, causing air to become stagnant in the roof. This will create an environment in which mold can grow, and can have significant impact on your heating and cooling costs. Not installing adequate ventilation is, itself, inexcusable for a professional and licensed roofer. Since May of 2022, when contacted by our city to make the necessary repairs in order for the roof to be up to code and compliant both with the regulations that they are bound by (as well as their own advertisements, literature, and sales propaganda), they have rescheduled us 20-ish times, with varying excuses. They have even potentially violated HIPAA laws by telling us our particular installer had COVID and wouldn't make it out. It seems they have as little interest in protecting the privacy and rights of their installers/employees as they do in providing you with a quality product or backing up their guarantees and warranties. We have an known issue, a direct result of poor workmanship and installation, that costs my family money every single month on our utility bills. As it fosters an environment conducive to the growth of mold and bacteria, it will also begin to have a negative impact on our health. We understand the world is still a bit tipsy-turvy. We've been more than accommodating and understanding to their avalanche of excuses and reschedules. We have been cordial and polite, we have been accommodating to the difficulties and unpredictable occurrences that happen on their end. Every week: another excuse, another reschedule. Sometimes we even do this twice in a week. We are nearly a full year since this roof was put on our house and 6 months since they were put on notice by the city of Livonia. Our well of patience is run dry. We are now communicating with our attorney to bring a claim against Hanson’s for their unethical business practices, refusal to honor our contract, and for the substandard/non-compliant product they have confined is beneath. If you choose to go through Hanson’s, I would advise you to get your attorney involved *before* signing, and to let them know they will be held accountable. Your safety and health are far too important to be left to chance with a company of grifters who will happily take your money, turn their back on you, and sell you down the river. If you are fine having a substandard product, a roof not up-to-code protecting you and your family: you can accomplish that for half the price 1-800-HANSONS will charge. EDIT: Responding to 1-800-HANSONS reply: Thanks for the canned auto-reply. You already have my information. In fact, I have spoken to two of your representatives, including your Operations Manager, today. After being rescheduled... again. You do not need more information to rectify the problem, you already contact me once or twice a week to backpedal on your current obligations, and had every bit of information you could possibly need before the roof was ever put on. I fear that even more information will overwhelm your systems, since it appears that you cannot finish those things already started. To correct the problems you need only to make good on your promises and back up the quality of your workmanship in the first place. I will continue to update this review as it continues to unfold. If 1-800-HANSONS can step up to the plate like an ethical company should, my edit will reflect that. If 1-800-HANSONS continues to refuse to act honorably, my edits will then reflect that unfortunate circumstance. The ball is truly in your court. UPDATE 9/8/22: Installers arrived today to install the edge venting forgotten off the original work and seal the table vents. Finally. Hopefully our municipal building will give it a thumbs up when he swings out to check the work, we are heavily considering hiring our own independent inspector as well for a more thorough investigation. While we are relieved to finally have the product we paid for, we feel firmly that only through continued diligence and escalation far beyond a reasonable level did we get to this very basic point of the transaction. I would implore prospective customers to truly search other avenues for their roof replacement. Our experience has been irrevocably tainted by what we perceive as a rather laissez-faire effort towards customer satisfaction and quality.
